Ha Giang Loop: unforgettable 6-day motorcycle tour in Northern Vietnam

In May 2023 we drove the Ha Giang Loop in Nothern Vietnam, an amazing experience that we will never forget.
We started off taking a Mini-van that took us in around 6 hours from Hanoi to Ha Giang. We rented a motorbike that was suitable for 2 people and it wasn't that easy to find a good bike. But we settled for a Honda Winner X and it did the job quite well.
We stayed in Homestays on the loop, most of them are run by the indigenous people of Northern Vietnam, in this area you'll find mostly H'mong people and they are very proud of their culture and heritage. (list below) we booked mostly same day or one day ahead using booking.com
The drive is not recommended for inexperienced drivers, since the traffic can be chaotic, the roads are very twisty and sometimes in bad condition. You need to be able to handle a motorcycle with manual gears and you should have a MC drivers licence + international drivers licence.
There's also an option to hire a driver + motorcycle, if you don't want to drive yourself.

Hello and Thank you! We took a minivan taxi from Hanoi to Ha Giang where we rented by ourselves from a local rental shop. We went to 3 different places and tried the bikes before we found the right one. We rented the Honda WinnerX which did a good job around the loop (with 2 people) even if it was a little small for a tall driver. It was a memorable and amazing adventure. Well worth it!
