    Opening and closing doors: 5 seconds.
    Retracting the wheels: 48 seconds.
    Total gear-up time: 53 seconds.

      Seems so much faster when you see it planespotting

      @@toddpeterson5904 It is. This is done using the aircraft electric pumps which have a much lower flowrate than the engine driven ones. The advantage is that everything happens much slower and you can see any issues much easier than you would if it was happening at full speed. If you needed to test the actual speed of it, you'd use a ground hydraulic rig.

      @@Penfold101 very interesting. That makes sense. Thank you for the explanation

      @@toddpeterson5904 its because, when the airplane is in flight, Engine Driven Pumps supply full system pressure to critical loads. The electric pumps are secondary pumps that assist incase the EDP isn't enough to support the loads..
      Here, the Electric pumps are turned on via the maintenance panel ( ground power for Servicing purposes, used on the ground to test and check systems operation).
      Or ground equipment might be used to test the hydraulic systems etc.

      Long time.

  • @jurrien75

    Gear retraction speed is slow because in this video in maintenance only the electric pumps are operating. With engines running and engine driven hydraulic pumps operating hydraulic capacity is much higher. In short: In real operation retraction is much quicker

    Can you explain why the main gear doors seem to "glitch" at the moment they open? I noticed that that is a distinctive trait only to the a350

    • @nickbien
      @nickbien 3 роки тому +2

      what do you mean by glitch? Do you mean that they kind of open the stop and then continue opening again?
      The only thing I noticed was how slow the gear went in but I know irl it's much faster than that.

    • @cameronmd80
      @cameronmd80 3 роки тому +3

      @@nickbien Yeah, in the initial part of the doors opening where it looks like they jam for a second. I know that it always happens when the doors open, I just want to know what purpose does it serve to do that instead of just smoothly opening.

    • @nickbien
      @nickbien 3 роки тому +5

      @@cameronmd80 I think it is because the doors unlatch and they kinda drop a little. (Think if if you're holding a heavy container then slide it off a table it kind of drops a little but but then you hold it up so it doesn't drop too fast)

    • @cameronmd80
      @cameronmd80 3 роки тому +1

      @@nickbien I understand your logic, but this is something specific to the a350, other jets dont do that. So it has to be something more than that.

    • @nickbien
      @nickbien 3 роки тому +4

      @@cameronmd80 idk maybe its just the way it was designed. Or it could be specific to that one a350 🤷‍♂️ I did look around at other planes with landing gear doors and none of them go down and stop. So I guess the a350 is unique

    Slowest gear retraction I've ever seen.

    • @SirensAndAlarmsOfNorthernIL

      That’s because it is using the electric hydraulic pumps only, which is that high pitched buzzing noise you hear. It would be faster if the engines were running as they operate engine driven hydraulic pumps

    Hell, the plane may reach its destination and be ready to land by the time the landing gear finishes retracting.

      absolutely not any safer in terms of hull losses. Both planes are good.

      The A340 is statistically the safest airliner ever made, over 30 years of service with no fatal accidents.

      I’d say the B787 is the safest plane, as there were absolutely no accidents that happened with it and it has been in service since 2009 based on the internet
