I just purchased the 550 Pro model from the official store and customer service confirmed that they have it in stock in the EU warehouse (so no need to wait longer for shipments from China). I was considering the Osee Lilmon 5 which has received good reviews, but it's not really available directly within Europe. This Viltrox seems to be a good alternative and the Pro model is really bright at 1200 nits. Personally I find the white battery an eyesore, so I might invest in a can of dark gray paint... Also the HDMI port placement can create challenges without an angled cable. The control knob might feel redundant until it's -15°C outside and you're trying to use the screen wearing gloves, so the knob is useful at least to us living in the north where the air hurts your face.

For anyone wondering there is a standard version of the DC550 as well that has a fan and is 1200 nits only difference between the standard and pro is you get 2 histograms(rgb,y) as well as 3 level waveforms (rgb,y and YUV) at $168 compared to $198 USD for the pro the standard might be the best option for most people.
Looking at Amazon reviews, some have complained about latency and it seems there is a danger of bricking the monitor, simply by doing the firmware update on the Viltrox website. When completed, the screen is blue, with lots of horizontal pinstripes. Has anyone else seen this issue? Can the monitor be recovered with some sort of reset, or reinstall of the firmware?
Great review. Can it handle the output signal of a Nikon Z9 with 4K 25fps and 60fps in H265 Nlog? I have so far not found a single review that is unequivocally explaining what works (or does not) on this camera. A gap in the market 😉. If you tested this, I would love to know. Thank you again. Thanks for the sub! I don't have that camera, but it should take that feed as long as you bump it down to 1080p. I don't believe it supports 4k inputs and the display is only 1080p anyway. Hope that helps!
On my camera (A7 IV) the entire monitor is not supported by the Viltrox monitor and I have a black border on the sides. Does anyone know how I can change this?

Why i s it every review video I find on these monitors shows a different color scheme for the false color colors? I would think they would standardize them , but Some have blue for the 70% and others have pink. Then some have Purple for the black clip and others have pink. Some, like this one , have green for the 50%, but others do not. I'm really hoping that inconsistency is because these are user definable or adjustable to different color schemes, but the last thing I want is the one that had pure blue with pink at the bottom. Any chance you can give some feedback on what's going on with it?
Great question! My understanding is that different brands have developed different standards to best suit their target users. But I agree, I wish there was a single standard. Thankfully I've found most monitors have a guide that appears so you can quickly re-adjust to the colors that particular monitor is using. Hope that helps!
Is it possible to solely use this and turn the built in camera monitor (Sony A6700) off, I was thinking in this way it I can prevent the camera from overheating.
@@NickKendall I just realized that if you connect the monitor to the USB c charge, the monitor works perfectly, but it doesn't charge the battery, so I had to take off the battery to charge it directly

Do you mean the top handle I'm using? It's a SmallRig top handle, you can get them pretty cheap online :)

Are you getting the menu and settings display coming up on the Viltrox as well? You might need to adjust your HDMI out settings :)

Why is your version of DC-550 Lite a touchscreen? I thought only the Pro had those?
The Lite also has a touchscreen; the pro has a much brighter display though.

Can you control your camera from the monitor. For example can you touch focus.

From my test w it when u plus it in by default it shuts the on body screen off
When charging it, is there any indicator or light that tells you when is ready or if it is still charging?
Not on the monitor itself, but the LEDs on the battery light up when charging to give you a charge level indication.

I'm not sure, but it has DC in and can be powered with USB C as an alternative to the battery :)
