Great video, but sad at the same time that these amazing machines are now a thing of the past. I was lucky enough at the age of 30 to be trained to operate a 195 for Wimpey Mining back in 1993 in the UK. This brought some memories back for me!
Excellent commentary throughout the vid.
Have been waiting...hoping somebody on you-tube ,would have a 195B breakdown. You have came through with flying colors. Perfect !
as always the best historical content. I really enjoy your videos, excellent work.
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it! I would have too but electric shovels of this size are rarely seen in action anymore
Thank you, glad you enjoyed it! This is an older video so the filming is not as good as my newer ones (as with anything, the more you do it the better you get) but it gives you a great look at a classic machine!
Great vid, thanks for sharing, loved to have seen one of these in action, nice documentary, very interesting.
Another impressive machine amazing video!
Thank you!
This machine was scrapped. The reason for not scrapping the machine when it was shut down is unknown. Most likely management may have had potential use for it in the future, which never happened.
Great video. Thanks for the education. Probably a dumb question, but since the machine has a trailing cable - external A/C power source, what do the generators do? Are they creating D/C power?
Have you ever gotten the chance to see a machine being scraped? It's something to see, I got to see a Northwest 80D and some old Cat 769B's being cut up at work a couple of years ago. The torches that the company used cut threw the Northwest's counter weight like nothing.
I've been around a few scrappings but I never really pay much attention to watching them
Great job!!
Het heb een grote intressen in in deze machines !
There will always be more old vintage equipment on my channel lol. Thanks!
This video must be old if this machine was scrapped 2 years ago. Do you have any walk arounds of small cranes, draglines, and shovels??? The small stuff is cooler and more interesting, your videos are the best videos out here!!!
For me it's hearbreaking to see these old machines being cut up for scrap. But at the same time I know it's a financial decision. Old and obsolete machines don't add to the companies profits. I'd love to see them all restored yet I know that's not practical. Unfortunately I watched as my beloved Northwest 41 fell to the scrappers torch.
Two things come to mind with me. First---what would it cost for someone to come in and service out the shovel to good working order, putting it back to work on a job? Second:, how loud would the vandals who damaged this machine cry out when the owner took a baseball bat to them and beat them severely for tearing stuff up. I see the machine was scrapped, but whoebver vandalized did not know that would be done.
This machine was actually looked at to be put back into service but unfortunately the extend of the damage that was done by vandals would have made it too costly to rebuild,
What was vandalized that made it so cost prohibitive to put back into service? They must've absolutely trashed it inside and out......
not called a lip its the gate with the cable pulling the latch bar to open the gate sorry
all the drive motors (swing, hoist, and propel) are dc motors. humans haven't been able to control ac motors like dc motors until recently.
called a gate not a lip cable opens the gate with what is called a latch bar but your learning kid
