I stood right on the edge of a runway in Iraq in PT shorts while one of those took off at full throttle. One of the few decisions I've made that I genuinely regret and feel stupid about. Turns out ground crew wear helmets for a reason. That sound will _shake your brain._
I lived on base there at Cherry Point from 93-96 in my high school years. I remember when they retired them there. Used to have a couple sitting on unused part of the flight line (north end) where they did the motorcycle safety course. My dad was Ops Chief of the PMO at the time(when there were still Marine MP's and not this base security crap they have now) and took me to one so I could draw one for a friend of his who used to fly them. I miss Cherry Point. Will forever remember the sign at the main gate- "pardon our noise it's the sound of freedom".
No you wouldn't it. The pilot in the queer A-6 is one fo the most bored of all pilots except the E-2. You fly big circles in the sky. They may train for escort missions but I NEVER saw them fly a REAL one in the 20 years I flew Intruders
That EA-6 you walked around is here in Ohio at MAPS. It was neat seeing this and the F-14 here. It’s was cool getting up near the cockpit of both airframes, it sure will be missed.
It may not look sleek,or fast, but I assure you that this is one of the most amazing aircraft ever, if you were not attached to a EA 6 B squadron, you really don't know of it's capabilities

When on the cat, it will my your eyelashes shake and your teeth chatter...those engines will blow you away if you don't secure yourself.
Back when the Nav flew EA-6B's they were THE LOUDEST, and NOISIEST jets at launch. Even beat out the F-14A's.
Id eat my lunch at the beach and wave at the pilots as they came in. They would wave back and look at me funny. 🤣
Nice little tour and the end. I love all the "odd" planes nobody ever sees. It would make one hell of a privately owned fun in the sky ride.

2014 was the last great year of the best aircraft it truly was.
I was the ordnance SNCOIC when the prowler first stood up with the HARM middle at MCAS CHERRY POINT NC . I loved this jet and how awesome it was
Highly underrated aircraft. Sad to see them being phased out and an aircraft I would love to fly.

Aren't pilots usually educated? Shouldn't you be playing Ace Combat kid?
Steve Hammond isn’t an A-6 bro
Very nicely filmed walk-around. Thanks.
+dak2005vn No prob man!

The announcer sounds a lot like Principal Skinner of the Simpsons.
LOOOOL IT RLY IS
I thought we were seeing the a-6 intruder?,
OH NO! I said the EA-6B prowler, mmmm ea-6B prowler!
LOL
Who cares about airspeed. I love the sound of twin J-52"s!
Pratt & Whitney - Thrust you can trust.
Dependable
Loved hearing Joe Satriani in the beginning.
We need A6 demos back lol
Awesome 👍
Love it
EA-6: I can not only blind you but I can deafen the shit out of you too !
The A-6 was the Doberman of her time. Relentless in defending American assets in the air and on the ground.
Nice vid.
I’ve still never seen one fly in person
MAG-14 and 12 from 1977-81
VMA(aw)332 Moonlighters, 1976-1980 MCAS Cherry Point and Ewakuni Japan Westpac 1979-1980.
"Ewakuni"(sic)
Iwakuni
The sky pig
If only this (or the regular A-6) were designed to carry the avenger. The navy could’ve had their own version of the warthog.
One of the only turbojet powered aircraft still flying!
All fighter jets are turbojet powered.
@@kballs94 not true, F- 14,15,and 16 just to name a few are all low bypass turbofans with afterburners.
@@danielginther4879 upon further analysis and one google search, your statement is true. Apologies for my ignorance and lack of research LOL
I know this is 3 years later@@kballs94but way to own up. Baller move.
Retired too soon. Along with several other jets of the time.
Does anyone remember the VMAQ-2 Playboys from MCAS CHERRY POINT N C ?
Was assigned to them from 89-91, detailed to MALS-14 in 65B shop. Sad to see they dumped the logo.
Yes I remember them 1982-1984 Mals 14 Supply. GySgt Retired

What happened to the coffee can on the back of the football? They added them when the ICAP I came out.
Removed on ICAP III.
@@AA-xo9uw I got out after ICAP II. Good to know.
Trusty workhorse she was...beautiful girl
I loved waving at the pilots on the way in. US NAVY! 😀🇺🇸👍 the EA6B was known as the "double ugly" 🤣
Great when it can fly, but a total garbage when it is not in service
