Cool gear mix, and it’s refreshing to see a super experienced hiker who is not insanely pursuing the super light and actually brings reasonable mix of stuff, extra clothes, etc.
Thanks Pie! For the Q&A, I wonder how you decide on what mix of clothing to take? It feels like I take a few too many items, but I dislike constantly editing my gear and I like to know that if conditions change I already have the stuff I need. How do you balance keeping things lightweight but also being prepared and comfortable?
Nice work, thanks. My spin after many years of backpacking CO, WY, MT is if i get cold in any thing rated to 10 degrees I'm returning it especially with an insulated sleep pad. Nice overall review though.

One thing I absolutely loved was this video.
I highly recommend the Jacks R Better High Sierra Sniveller 0 degree Quilt...I believe the new model is around 24 to 26 ounces and it can be worn like a puffy jacket...many people do this once into camp...but you don't have to...this is a wonderful Quilt that will keep to warm... The Jacks R Better High Sierra Sniveller O degree Quilt. I love mine.

pieonthetrail. But in this case is the "tarp" o cealing and the inside for one person...did not it?
pieonthetrail i means....this tent has 2 parts, the outside (the cealing or the tarp) for2 persons and the inside (where you sleep) is for 1 person...isn't it?
Interesting a thru hiker that didnt having treking poles
i have the same food bag, its great. they say ibuprofen lowers testosterone in men, so i would try asprin instead
probably anywhere between 5-7 days depends on how hungry you are . i just stuffed 9 lbs of ramen, cliff bars,oatmeal,olive oil, spam candybars, instant potatoes, knorr rice sides, tuna etc & it took up about 3/4ths of it its capacity when i picked it up vertically instead of it laying horizontally on the ground. so enough for my needs. i really like the extra room though it allows it to conform in your pack nicely without dead space.
To all my Ultralight backpacker friends...Why do so many of you carry a lb of Electronics? A...lb is a lot of weight...that isn't a essential backpacking item like your shelter is...
@@pieonthetrail I can tell you that if you got rid of your addiction to electronics you have a lighter pack... carrying heavy electronic has nothing to do with thru hiking and much of these things didn't even exist 10 years ago...now I guess if you are making UA-cam videos you might need them...
Ask what Colin Fletcher did not having Electronics available to him father of modern backpacking the first modern through hiker ever...
While carrying electronics is not essential for long distance hiking, carrying at least a mobile phone is becoming increasingly necessary if you want to make calls to talk to family / friends back home or for emergencies. When is the last time you saw a pay phone, especially in a very small town like those along many of the long trails? If you carry a phone, you'll then need a battery backup to keep the thing charged, or else it proves completely useless. When I began thru hiking, I did not carry a smart phone simply because they were not invented yet. However, pay phones were available in every town. This is no longer the case.
