It's been a while since we've done a day of food. It felt overdue!
Maybe next, we will just document an entire week in my life (^_-)
Let me know your thoughts and favorites below!
It all looked good brother. No favourites, did you taste the cheese and mayonnaise at all after burning your mouth?
When you were walking down the path above the station I thought it looked familiar ... I walked around that area the last time I was in Tokyo.
Food looked great, although I do have a preferred takoyaki place down in Osaka 🤪 ... But yes they can be little balls of fire ....
Week in your life video .... Oh yes go for it 😄
Yes, please! I would love to see a video about a week in your life.
Hi Norm
Yes that sounds a great idea, a whole week with you.
🤗😍💙📸👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
@@alphamike87 now thats a good question right here xD
The lady at the beginning, seeing you off with a long "Bye bye", reminded me of when Mums/Grandmas see off their kids/grandkids. So sweet.
Supernovafruitloop so wholesome 🤗
most restaurant in Tokyo do that! it's the typical Japanese guest manners
most restaurant in Tokyo do that! it's the typical Japanese guest manners
It's custom to see off your guests until you cannot view them anymore.
legend says the lady in green is still waving goodbye
I just checked (2020)
The legends are true....
I didn't know Chris Evans vlogs his daily life in Japan
Went cycling around this area here when I was in Tokyo. It was a good call, super cheap to rent a bicycle for the day and a good way to cover some ground. I would recommend to anyone visiting Tokyo to do this. (I visited a cafe for lunch that was also a flower/horticulture shop)
For the uninitiated who don't want a baptism by fire, don't wish to spit out the food or the pain of a blistered mouth, cut each takoyaki wide open with the food pick and wait--yes, yes, I know it's hard--15 minutes. You'll lose no flavour. Does it spoil the fun of watching your mate suffer? Depends entirely on the mate....
Aw, Eric is adorable!
Right?!
@@TokyoLens one of these days I'll get to Japan, and hopefully broaden my horizons of food! And nature!
Just wrapped up our visit in Japan, starting with Asakusa. Went to Kikko, based on your recommendation. Not only was it amazing, but at the end when I mentioned you, they happily exclaimed "oh, Norm-san!" and gave us origami bookmarks. (or maybe everyone gets them :)
I will miss Japan, but time to start a new list of things to try in the future!
Street food is amazing, whenever I make it to Japan I'll have to check out that area of Tokyo.
LOVE trying out new street foods.
I totally get you, I’m the type that is willing to travel far or queue for food but never really eat near my house either. Guess its like a case of the green is greener on the other side, or the food is tastier on the other side.
I ducked for you when you went through the shrine 😂
Keep my Tuesdays like this Sir.
I appreciate you holding that heavy camera for us all the time.
This is exactly the type of off the tourist path stuff I look for from Norm, keep up the good work man!
"This episode is going to be all street food. " Hidden car, adorable shrine, and Norm eats several fried foods then burns his mouth. Good times.
Yes please to the week documentation.
Also the music for this was really drawing me in. Loved the choices made!
映像が素晴らしい!綺麗な動画をありがとう。参考になりました。
Yes! Another aesthetic storytime with Norm!♥️♥️♥️
That last bit, LOL!!!
I lived in Sendagi for a year and miss it so much. These are the streets I walked every day. Thanks for showing off the area, great memories.
I love those narrow alleyways like you see here 10:00
When BusanKevin lived in Japan he always had his walk and talk videos and he always found these cool back streets and alleyways.
When I lived in Tokyo, one of my big time thief was walking around places like this for hours.
I’m definitely with you there
Love those little streets more than anything!!
That was some of my favorite footage that Kevin did! I miss him in Japan.
Street food was actually one of my favorite parts of coming to Japan, I've never been to a place like that where the streets are lined with shops. Also I live for the next time you say "Welcome to Tokyo Tuesdays, if you're a regular viewer, welcome back"
I've been there and miss that places
Great vid, especially liked the music!
i miss tokyo so much, and yes this video makes me so hungry, specially cuz i can't find those dishes here
If I could mail them to you, I would! Lol
I was I the Same roykan!!! Great people... love from Germany 🇩🇪
Norm, literally every video of yours makes me so hungry 🤤 while I don’t think I’ll ever actually be a fan of takoyaki, I’ll give these ones a try because they didn’t look as bad as some others I’ve had.
Thanks for letting people know that eating and walking is frowned upon. Love street food q
So glad I watched this while already eating!!
that lady at the beginning is so sweet. I hope she's doing well these days.
Man I'd love to try a lot of japanese foods, they are so good!
I feel bad now because I ate on the train once in Japan. 🙊😅 Oops~
lol, commuter = no eating, Shinkansen = it's ok to eat. Although you might get a very rare dirty look from a grumpy ojisan when you try to open up a crinkly plastic wrapped food on very early train
Very lovely video. Great food and friendly people.
tiny streets are the best way to wander...
😃
I swear man these back streets vids are quickly becoming my favorite.
Lol, you started your video exactly where my Tokyo experience started! 😋
I’m always blown away by that inch of foam tho 🍺 👀🇺🇸
Ok this makes me miss japan so much.... but I know where i have to vist next time i get there. Thanks for the video
Definitely an area I will be putting on my itinerary!
Lol At 7:54 I was confused for a sec ,I thought it was underwear you picked up. Thank godness for the rewind button lol
OMG 😂 can you imagine?! Hahahaha
See this is what I want too see when I go to Japan, I want to stay away from tourist stuff. Thanks for the learning experience. Blessed be
I love the little back streets, the food makes it even better. Another fun video.......that made me hungry.
All of it looks so good! I feel like I need to learn how to make onigiri because they always sound good.
UA-cam knew I was hungry and recommended this video 😂 great video! 😸
What an absolutely awesome video norm! Keep it up, can’t wait for the next one!
Great video and really useful. I stayed at Andon Ryokan a few years ago (you missed a great breakfast!) and now have booked to go back in February, so the food tips are fabulous. Thank you.
Oh wow!!! That’s sooo cool to hear
Ishii san is one of my favorite humans ever lol
Hope you have a great time in feb!!
Perfect time to have Dinner!!! Awesome video as usual !!!
Hooray! Another food trip!
there is a wonderful little candy shop up a hill in that neighborhood. I forget it's name but they create the most interesting candy figures right in front of your eyes there. You can pay to have one made from a photo as well.
Yanaka Ginza!! One of my fav neighborhoods 😊
Man. Takoyaki was like the first food I ate outside the quarantine to enter Japan. This gives me some real nostalgia
omg this street is where I lived a week the first time I went to tokyo...the french pastries, the freshely rosted coffee....so nice !
BTW you have to try Yadoroku in Asakusa. Great Onigiris there.
Ant-Man eats Tokyo. Made me hungry and hangry at the same time. So want to be in Tokyo or Kyoto right now. Thanks for bringing back memories.
OMG I can't believe it, I've spent weeks trying to retrace where I went when I visited Tokyo 20 years ago. I thought I'd never be able to track down the hotel cause all I remembered about it was it had a teal glass front (don't even know what district it was in). Then when Norm walked out of the building at the beginning of this video my jaw just hit the floor. I think that's it!
A new tokyo tuesday? And a food tour at that?! I am all about this vid :D
Im letting food burn only to watch this first. Norm, I havent seen the video yet but I know its gonna be great!
Lol nooooo don’t burn the food~ 😂
@@TokyoLens I managed to save the food and I love that shrine, been there with friends a couple of times. Burning takoyaki though, I dont love that...at all.
5:50 the red shop behind you, good bentos there :)
Been to the Andon Ryokan in 2005 and 06. The place (for a first timer) to Japan was great. Very helpful staff. I just hope the family items which are/were displayed were returned.( I heard that some were stolen, by guests).
Oh my, I remember also walking old Tokyo a few months ago and stumbling upon this street. I had a skewer of small, deep fried eggs which was disturbing because I didn't knew what I was buying and expected chicken of some sorts. I should have tried to read what I was buying I guess :D But then I also had Takoyaki from the same place as you in the video, which were just soooo awesome :)
hahaha cute owner-san waved a looong time seeing you off XD
I shouldn't watch videos about food before going to sleep, now I'm really hungry 🤤I'm especially curious about those doughnuts and takoyaki 🤤
...wait, it can't be THAT hot, I want to try it too 😂
LOVE IT!!! I stayed in Nishinippori for 5 weeks during the RWC and i loved exploring all the street around the area and defiantly enjoyed a beer for 5 at the same shop!!!
Bookmarked several places for my upcoming trip. Thank you!
Aww yay!!
Minowa was my "first" Tokyo neighborhood!
I think the owners of Andon Ryokan also own the backpackers hostel in the same neighborhood that I used to stay at every time I came to Japan.
I love the rougher, more blue collar vibe of the area. Its got good proximity to Ueno and I enjoy the route and stops of the underrated Hibiya line. Ebisu, Hiroo, Roppongi, Ginza, Akihabara, and Ueno on the same line.
also there used to be a fun cafe called Tepui around the corner. Nothing special, just kind of a neighborhood joint that had a mix of random snacks, fish and chips, and pizza. I mostly went there for beers and board games with friends though.
My favorite place to eat in the neighborhood though, was Dote no Isaya - which was a great oldschool Ten-Don place that had been open for like 100 years or something. The tempura bowl with eel is just so good.
Such a great and refreshing video. Now I want some Takoyaki
Love the video, would love to visit the shrine when I come in April and the different foods. The intro always brightens up my day when I hear it :D
Hey Norm.I was at Yanaka Ginza in September. Loved the view from cemetary next to Nippori station. I will be back in tokyo again in February for a week. I will be staying in Asakusa this time again. Just love that neibourhood. Hope to bump into you while I'm in Tokyo, Norm.
BTW I got girigiri edition stickers (6 of various ones) and loving them.
Lol It dawned on me how funny it might have looked if someone saw you while you were recording walking down the street holding the octopus balls while you camera was pointed at it from behind.
hey, im a new subscriber and i did watch a few of your videos and i liked your content, also i loved how positive you are and very honest and nice, which is rare to find. You deserve better like at least 10M subscriber.i really rarely comment at any video, but you are special so a did.BTW i did watch your deleted video that 24 hour video.
New video!!! Drop everything!!!!
I do the same thing 😉 lol
Oh, you should stop in at CIBI, if you haven't been before! The japanese owners have their main cafe here in Collingwood, Melbourne. They now have a couple of cafes in Tokyo too. The one you walked past is very much like their melbourne store. Delicious food and coffee. Lovely staff. :)
Also, next time you're in Kyoto - Look up Aonigiri. The owner is like a onigiri artisan! Amazing food. :)
Yanaka Ginza also has a great shop that sells Maron cake, and special seasonal variations. Check it out next time!
Tokyo has always been on our bucket list. We already made plans this year last March but had to cancel due to COVID-19. We would love to make another travel plan to Tokyo.
I miss onigiri!! Love the combination of the white rice with the salty crunch of nori.
Now I'm drooling...
Guess I have to go back to Japan soon, thanks Norm
LOVE THIS VIDEO!!! OOOO FOX SHRINE
enjoyingly watching this video while enjoying my dinner :)
We ate at the Yaktori place in March.. great food and a great neighborhood :)
Nice!! A great place!
Re-watching this video while I'm hungrily waiting for my lunch to be ready... the pain is real 🤤😭 Btw, たこやき+cheese? May as well call them "little lava balls" 🔥
Look - a hidden car
My favourite part, that's what I want to discover in side streets!
The back streets are so good!
I miss Tokyo so much! Have to save up to be able to return there.
I love this. and a walking food tour. those cat tail donuts are looking delicious. Does Sharla know about this place?
Absolutely LOVE your channel. Cheers!
I need to learn to make some rice balls lol for some reason that's always been a very interesting food to me. When I go to Asian restaurants around here I'm always interested to see their rice quality. Loooove that food!
Suuuuper easy to make!
Lol maybe I should make a video just on that 😂
@@TokyoLens go for it dude lol I'll watch it for sure. I'm sure there's a bit more to it than just rolling rice... Right? Lol
last part was too funny.
mentaiko ongiri is probably my second favorite!! umeboshi is my absolute favorite 😍
the little pet on the cat statue 🫶
and all the plants on the tiny roads!
During a night visit to Nezu Shrine I smacked my head pretty hard on one of those torii gates 😀
Wow looks interesting .
I love Yanaka and I've been to that onigiri restaurant twice!!! Yanaka Cemetery has a lot of cute stray cats that are fed by the locals :) I always see a couple when I go
Dude, you are visiting all of my fun places. I used to stay in the Minowa area when I first started visiting Japan and then I started staying in the Nezu area the last few years. Love Nezu shrine and Yanaka and will be back there next week.
Found it 🙋🏻♀️ I think I know that Takoyaki place! I think I’m gonna go exploring again! Thank you Norm!
Yaaaay
Aww
Pretty happy you found it!!
Hope you have a great day~
Kawa and bonjiri are the best
Good morning, nice vlogging!!
Toight vid! Was lit like a 🌮 !!! =D betcha can't remember the person sporting mutton chops! Made me smile! I've seen those donuts in some anime awhile back...can't remember for the life of me... Ooooh I can eat those and other "extremely" hot food stuffs without burning myself =D don't really like takoyaki that isn't still hot that there's no more steam when bitten in half....buuut have to try going to Japan just to see how it is "cold" or just warm... Paused and really liked the misspellings in the aunties hotel.... Menu reminded me when CDs DVDs was all the rage...and reminded me of my own aunt =D
This was so much fun to watch! I especially enjoy this type of Videos You do, providing so many ideas what to visit on my next journey to Japan. Keep uploading :)
I really enjoyed this video. Hope your channel goes a long way! GL!
The chicken 🍗making me hungry 😋
Yo that was a cool shot down the little backstreet
