Edit: Oh right, put the water down after it's shaped out and it flows into the hole, then the lava. You create cobble stone by have water and flowing lava touch, the flowing lava then turns into cobble, if source water is touched it turns to smooth stone and you failed. Already have seen what happens when source lava touches water. Forgot that's something someone could screw up as well if they don't know.
