I'm a 75 year old pensioner. I'm worried sick about this. We already can't afford proper heating and good food. We have given up TV license. We skimp on lighting and washing. We are just above the threshold to get any pension credits. We've always worked hard, never making sickness claims. We were both 15 starting work. Can't get GP appointments, this is how we are treated in our last years, when the whole world can access our government generosity! Thankyou Rachel for taking away our lifeline.
i am a younger pensioner 67, i am in full agreement like many on here, i cannot like you buy the food I need, (separated from husband). S21 so now looking for a council home (given priority as suffered domestic abuse and also his affair of 15 yrs), i lived and was born in London and started working washing people's hair at hairdressers also doing a paper round with huge basket of papers quit that one after a month or so. Cannot get GP appts, teeth literally falling out of my mouth and cannot find a dentist at all anywhere. Just living off state pension, rent home or did. I am livid about all of this (oh winters ... heating 1 hour on, am, one hour on pm and that's it ).

My wife and I are pensioners. To save energy costs we only shower 2 or 3 times a week now. We keep our heating off except when its really cold, we wrap up with an extra jacket or coat to save on the bills. We have paid in to the system all our lives and never had been out of work. By the way we both voted reform.

The State Pension is not a "Benefit". It was paid for by ourselves and our Employers over an entire working life. The State Gambled that few would live long enough to collect it and have done their damndest ever since to make sure you don't. If you dared to scape and save and not be a Burden. you are to support the ones who couldn't be bothered.. The answer is simple :- Pay a Descent Retirement Pension as most European Countries do and additional Benefits would not be required - neither would the hundreds of thousands of Civil Servants paid OTT Salaries and Pensions to Administer it. 20% of the UK Workforce are non productive administrators.

No, we do not get the up rated pension, we are on the old State Pension, which combined is around £20 per week over the limit to qualify for Pension Credit. Those who qualify receive all sorts of assistance which are far beyond this difference. I'm sorry Rachel, I had great hopes of you, but these have been shattered by your shortsightedness and the total unfairness you have demonstrated. Where is the "hit" on all the "super rich" who have their money stashed away in offshore accounts and other means of tax avoidance? They are the people who have all the money - make them pay instead. Had nothing no carpets furniture etc. We worked went without holidays, going out socialising just to keep a roof over our heads. Mortgage rate went up to 15% so don't tell me I had it easy because we didn't. Wage was £12 a week between 2 of us.
Most of us who have a bit put by for emergencies, like new doors and boiler repairs will now be struggling. We savers take very little in the way of extras as it is. We often went without to be independent never realising how this high cost of living would affect us. It seems shocking that we are also clobbered for tax on our pensions. It is grossly unfair to see others on pip and other benefits happily filling up supermarket trolleys as we pause and compare prices in panic. Those claimants receive much,much more and yet do not work or pay tax on their income, barring a bit of bedroom tax they baulk at. Our council tax, energy costs and dentistry are simply a few reasons why we felt comforted by the winter fuel payment. The government do not realise the hardship this will cause.
The national minimum wage is £11.44 per hr that's £21964 a year, my national pension after paying into it all my working life is £884 or £10608 a year and now Labour has taken the winter fuel payment off me and I have to pay the same amount for everything as everyone else, thank you the Labour party, pick on the pensioners who has paid all their due's and never made a single benefit claim all my working life.

So a pensioner on £218.15 (pension credit) gets the winter fuel payment, while somone on £221.20 (basic state pension) does not, that's very mean and sets the cut off point far too low!

Starmer has a huge pension from his time as head of the useless CPS. Fixed a deal with HMRC that his pension is not subject to income tax.

My wife and I are pensioners. To save energy costs we only shower 2 or 3 times a week now. We keep our heating off except when its really cold, we wrap up with an extra jacket or coat to save on the bills. We have paid in to the system all our lives and never had been out of work.

It goes on how much national insurance you have paid in over the years, I think you have to pay in at least 35 years of national insurance contributions to get full state pension, it's certainly not a benefit, that liar Keir Starmer and his messed up lying Labour Party are suggesting.

The State Pension is not a "Benefit". It was paid for by ourselves and our Employers over an entire working life. The State Gambled that few would live long enough to collect it and have done their damndest ever since to make sure you don't. The answer is simple :- Pay a Descent Retirement Pension as most European Countries do and additional Benefits would not be required - neither would the hundreds of thousands of Civil Servants paid OTT Salaries and Pensions to Administer it. 20% of the UK Workforce are non productive administrators.

The loss of mine and my wife's Winter Fuel Allowance is the final straw. No, we do not get the up rated pension, we are on the old State Pension, which combined is around £20 per week over the limit to qualify for Pension Credit. Those who qualify receive all sorts of assistance which are far beyond this difference. I'm sorry Rachel, I had great hopes of you, but these have been shattered by your shortsightedness and the total unfairness you have demonstrated. Where is the "hit" on all the "super rich" who have their money stashed away in offshore accounts and other means of tax avoidance? They are the people who have all the money - make them pay instead. Maintaining the triple lock is costing every taxpayer an extra £1200. Can’t they spend some of that money on insulation. @1rickslater what opportunities? We had to sell our transport to put a deposit down. Had nothing no carpets furniture etc. We worked went without holidays, going out socialising just to keep a roof over our heads. Mortgage rate went up to 15% so don't tell me I had it easy because we didn't. Wage was £12 a week between 2 of us.
Most of us who have a bit put by for emergencies, like new doors and boiler repairs will now be struggling. We savers take very little in the way of extras as it is. We often went without to be independent never realising how this high cost of living would affect us. It seems shocking that we are also clobbered for tax on our pensions. It is grossly unfair to see others on pip and other benefits happily filling up supermarket trolleys as we pause and compare prices in panic. Those claimants receive much,much more and yet do not work or pay tax on their income, barring a bit of bedroom tax they baulk at. Our council tax, energy costs and dentistry are simply a few reasons why we felt comforted by the winter fuel payment. The government do not realise the hardship this will cause.

The national minimum wage is £11.44 per hr that's £21964 a year, my national pension after paying into it all my working life is £884 or £10608 a year and now Labour has taken the winter fuel payment off me and I have to pay the same amount for everything as everyone else, thank you the Labour party, pick on the pensioners who has paid all their due's and never made a single benefit claim all my working life.
