If you are going to use the de hooker, you should bend down the barbs of your hooks. Bending down the barb will aid in hooking and de-hooking and cause less damage to the fish. The "bump" left after you bend down the barb will work almost as well as the extended barb, but the fish suffers less.
Thanks! I only get to fish 2-3 times per year so I try to figure stuff out before I get out on the water. Regarding the 2-hook Carolina rig, do you have a preferred length you like to use? It looks like it's around 16" in total length before you tie it to the swivel. When you tie it to the swivel do you try to make the hooks the same length or offset them by an inch or two? Last one, what is the lowest test mono you have tried it with? For me, with just a one-hook Carolina rig, I usually don't go less than 30lb since I find this is best for minimizing tangles and resisting breaking. But with 2-hooks I'm wondering if 30lb might tend to tangle. Thanks for your help.
What do you think is better table fare (I notice you target the Sheepshead and Tautog)? I purchased an Old Town Topwater 120 and live in central NC so the OBX is not too far. I want to start making some day trips for Specks and such to fill our freezer.
Really enjoy your videos, and info! You look like you thoroughly enjoy making these vids and sharing info for us newbies 🙂 I went on a combo duck hunt/Speck fishing trip after Christmas and we caught limits of Specks each day (Near Atlantic NC). Some of the best fish I ever ate.
I like the Shimano Trevala jigging rods, 6'6", heavy action, 80-200 lb line rating. These rods are light weight and super strong. I am using 100 lb power pro braid and 80 lb mono leader on a Diawa Saltist LD30. It really bothers me to see guys fishing for sheepshead with light weight gear around structure and consistently losing fish.
I wanna see a catch, clean, and cook pufferfish vid
Nice tip on par-boiling and freezing sand fleas. Thanks.

Hadn't expected a reply, but if i may ask WHATpart of the country do you still find sheephead during dec
This is Beaufort NC, smaller fish congregate near inlets and bigger fish move to nearshore reefs
Ask and you shall receive
There many great tasting fish out there but one of my real favorites is Tautog. Bread 'em up and fry!
I grew up fishing Tog. I wasn't aware they occurred down there! What a treat.
AWESOME action. Do you like the big hard shell sand fleas or the smaller soft shell ones?
I prefer the bigger ones, put the smaller ones on two at a time.
Nice videos 👍 I like that keep it up
Where are you at?
I don't keep puffers for anything.

You can make them the same length or offset, I recommend using 60 or 80 pound test when fishing around structure.

Tautog is the best eating fish around if you can find any. Sheepshead and speckled trout are also high on the list...
And where are you fishing?
What is the name of that double rig thing you are using?
Also... Nice Boat : )
It's a double hook carolina rig
Do you think parboiled sandfleas work better than live sandfleas or fiddler crabs?
This is a wintertime bait only, they are equal or greater in my opinion.
why the puffer :(
I have never sheepshead fished there I have flounder fished it but not sheepshead preety cool
Just subscribed,. What kind of fishing rod and name brand do you prefer for sheepshead?

big fan from PA , is there a way to get to that spot without a boat ?
thank you
It is posted federal property, no trespassing. People do brake the rules but I wouldn’t recommend it.
@@offkilterfishing thank you very much
Is hard to clean puffer fish ?
One of the easiest fish to clean and best tasting actually... Just need a bunch of them to make a meal. Kind of like dove hunting.
You don’t like croakers?
I don't, not enough meat on them
you eat puffer fish?
They are very good and they freeze well also
Puffer are EXCELLENT food fare 🙌 drumstick of the sea lol
