I think we need to put a high fidelity pressure transducer into a muffler and try a few different mods on a dyno. When you look at the angles of the exhaust port and the front plates of MOST mufflers it seems that they are trying to do some funny stuff bouncing the pressure pulse around. I'd like to see how that effects the HP/Torque curves. With Stihl style mufflers I've also wondered about taking some sheet metal and forming a "cone" or.. "boob" shaped insert that would sandwich between the halves and protrude into the lower (off-outlet) corner of the muffler and encourage the gasses up towards the outlet area. It would also reduce the volume of the muffler dramatically by blocking off the front half. I think a smart feller could make more pipe-like performance. I've seen people do some nifty metal forming with carved oak and a cheap press.
Both intake and exhaust are critical functions of any type motor, whether 2 stroke or 4... It's all about flow and the resistance of that flow whether it be fuel or exhaust... That is why porting and polishing makes a huge difference with engine performance a long with larger exhaust systems. PHYSICS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
oddly enough I just fired up my 462 bark box just to keep it flowing and not sitting to long keep the gas moving in the carb. I use Truefuel and when I premix I use Saber. The saw is a beast.
I believe a 2 cycle is exhausting and intakes a certain amount through the exhaust port on the cylinder , I'm not a saw porter but I would investigate it some so you don't damage your powersaw.
No they actually don’t. You might be thinking of the sound wave that bounces back inside an expansion chamber(bike pipe). By the time the exhaust pulse reaches the tip of the pipe's stinger, there is no more scavenging, only positive pressure. Mufflers (not pipes) do not aid in holding the charge in the motor, only tuned pipes.
Be nice to see some one take a stock muffler verse a few differnt mods and then try the differnt muffler fronts with stock out let and the a blank stock outlet to see temperature differnence, Exile performance builds a nicer looking tube dual port cover.
I’ve been wanting to do this for awhile now. I’m certified in thermography so I have the equipment. What I don’t have is all the different covers, they’re pricey.
Have you tested the Egan straight shot vs the wcs bark box? I could be wrong but I’d imagine they’re just copies of each other but if you have tested both back to back did you notice a difference on one over the other?
My neighbors hate me even though I love them. Definitely have 2 stroke domain..and tree skills..it's crazy 🤪..local I never get hired .but after half mile from home get year round work ..can't understand it..would probly do it for free..for them..PRIDE is the fall of man today
Like the way you blocked off the oem port. I would encourage u to test the saw with that port plugged vs open.

I have not, but there’s tests out there. Also, they’re actually quite different. I’ve studied both and like the straight shot better personally.
