@land of Lincoln i think a long review video is good because we could see how he reviewed the product and we could give tips to him if he made any mistakes when reviewing
The frozen magic has the following advantages for speed: * Thinner walls (less insulation between frozen gel and drink) * Irregular shape (can help with forming ice) * Higher surface area (a lot more liquid in contact with the cold stuff at once)
I think the green one might be faster because of the folds. They increase the surface area which transfers the cold faster into the liquid, thus freezing it faster. It could probably be improved if the folds could be flattened after the preparation.
additionally, the one without folds probably held more liquid which contained more heat that needed to be absorbed. Did you see how much they each held?

I've owned a few versions of these and they all worked great if you followed directions. The liquid should be chilled and should also be sufficiently sweetened to crystallize properly. The Zoku is kind of a really expensive version of the Slush Mug which I've had and the Frozen Magic is a slightly different way to get more surface area to the liquid and is a very nice way of doing it compared to the Slushy Magic I had before which was little cubes that you'd freeze and use to make slush. Over the years basically you learn to not use milk and to avoid things that may be 'low sugar' or 'sugar free'. Typically I will get super good results with fridge chilled juices or sodas or even normally sweetened sports drinks. As long as the liquid is rather cold, it will not take super long to make the slush, but if it's room temp it will take FOREVER and a lot of the chill will be taken off the cup trying to bring the temp. of the liquid down. One thing I've done if I want a slush and only had drinks that were sitting at room temp is chill it quickly with some ice to ensure quicker slushing.
The only problem with blender smoothies (depending on what kind you want) the ice dilutes the flavor. I just stick a can of coke in the freezer for about 4 hours (depends on the freezer) and boom! Perfect coke icee! Just have to open the can with a can opener lol

Most of these slushy gadgets work just fine with sodas, so high fructose corn syrup apparently counts as natural. I can confirm that frozen ginger-ale is amazing. The one I use is basically a hollow mug with what is likely an alcohol/water mix inside it. It has the same problem you had, and it has to do with the surface area of the freezing surface, so I add an ice-cube or 2. I stick it in the freezer over night, and the next day I wrap it in a modified koozy, and fill it with refrigerated drinks. If I use ice, I can get about 2 cans worth of slushy, but only about 1.5 without. Without the koozy, it only freezes about 90% of one can's worth of soda.
Does anyone else remember the as seen on tv version of this that released years ago, cant remember what they were called, I think it was slushy magic or something
The blue one requires just sitting. The green one requires constant agitation with will inherently go faster. It's how most slushy machines work by turning for constant agitation
I would guess the folds in the FrozenMagic increase the surface area quite a bit so the liquid is able to cool faster and more ice can form on the walls. Love your vids. Keep up the good work!
I remember one time I visited a resturant in the south. I asked for a coke to drink, and the waitress asked "what kind of coke?" That was the first time I heard of soda in general being refered to just as coke.
Yeah, that one threw me for a loop too. Just when I thought I'd had a grasp on the whole "regional pop/soda/soft drink/cola" thing, I'm watching people requesting an "orange coke" - entirely seriously! - expecting a Crush, and, stranger still, GETTING ONE, because that's what the waitress called em too!

But the nice thing is that it's so cold, you can pour a second drink into it after you finish the first and make another slushy. The Zoku cup works great if you use the edge of the spoon/scraper to scrap down the sides of the cup then stir slightly every minute or so. I use mine for Tito's and lemonade slushies on hot days
The frozen magic works faster because with the interior shape of the cup allows more cold surface area to come in contact with the liquid accompanied by the fact you are constantly breaking the ice particles loose and pushing it back into the liquid and catalyzing the rest of the beverage dropping the temp. more quickly than just waiting for the ice to form and scrape it off.
We used to use freezer cups for ice cream floats when I was a kid. It would turn the root beer into slush... so good! These just look like fancy freezer cups. The reason the one is so much faster is surface area. Those ridges going in gave the frozen surface a much larger surface area. Probably about 2x as much. More contact with the frozen surface = faster freezing time.

So far everyone is following all the safety rules & taking good care of their cups.
I have one of these cups, I haven't used it for years. I need to find it for summer use. It worked pretty well in years past, I think I got it at Walmart like 20 years ago. Mine came with a hard plastic scraper spoon and was a hard sided cup.

You pretty much hit the nail on the head with your closing comments. The Frozen Magic works quicker but it's also cheaply made. They've been known to fall apart at the top rim or even tear and leak coolant into your drink. The Zoku is much better long-term.
@@anthimatter every carbonated drink in the Southern US is coke. "What kind of coke do you want, honey?" "Do you have either root beer or orange, ma'am?"
I have a frozen magic and I love it! It always gets the job done quick and clean-up is super easy! Maybe sometime soon I'll actually make a slushy with it.
The frozen magical is better for 2 reasons, for having more surface of contact and when you squish it you're always removing the ice of the walls, which prevents the ice from being an insulator between the walls and the liquid, creating ice a lot faster.
Great video as usual! I was hoping you'd go against the rules and use a stevia or other sweetener based drink to really see if they work or don't work. We don't drink sugary drinks at all so that would be useful. Thanks again!

I think the issue with the Coke was due to the Coke being room temp and not chilled. Because of this, the cup had to chill it down further, and the "squeeze" cup provided the agitation and movement of the liquid to chill faster whereas with the other one the liquid was just sitting there. I love the videos, keep up the good work.

You are right about the easy to damage the Magic cup. We had a little lesson on do’s & don’ts before anyone was allowed to use.
Loving the graphics James. Very profesh
Me living in Canada: OMG it is so hot, 30 degrees Celsius
Him in Las Vegas: 37 degrees Celsius is quite cold
We had a record high summer temp of 38 degrees C in England last year and most people felt like they were melting.
Laughs in Australian
For Las Vegas, it is!
You know James I haven't even watched this vid yet but I'm excited to later. Never a bad vid! Keep up the good work bro!
Thanks, and I hope you enjoy it!
I agree, never a bad review. I've watched others that don't read directions, or if they do, it's ignored (cringe). I always watch James. Not just 'cause I make purchase decisions based on his reviews, but he's so much fun.
You pretty much hit the nail on the head with your closing comments.
The Frozen Magic works quicker but it's also cheaply made. They've been known to fall apart at the top rim or even tear and leak coolant into your drink. The Zoku is much better long-term.
The blue Zoku cup I have and LOVE it! It makes a really good wine slushy. MMMM
"INTO THE CHEESECAKE!"
Him:99° oh it's not that warm (California)
Me: 78° it's too hot I'm dying(Tennessee)
He lives in Las Vegas -- it's even hotter there!
Keiry, what's your heat index? 99? James' probably 99 or less.
It's a "dry" heat
Bruh i live in TN too its hot as Satan's asshole here
I just moved to Tennessee from Chicago and I hate it it’s to hot
In Australia it is called Soft Drink and Coke company makes frozen Coke and you can buy them from McDonald's for $1
I've known people who also just call everything "Coke" over here. I think McDonald's helped contribute to that.
@@anthimatter every carbonated drink in the Southern US is coke. "What kind of coke do you want, honey?" "Do you have either root beer or orange, ma'am?"
I have a frozen magic and I love it! It always gets the job done quick and clean-up is super easy! Maybe sometime soon I'll actually make a slushy with it.
hmm.
It would be faster for me to walk to my local 7-Eleven, buy a Slurpee, and walk home.
In fact, it would be faster to do that four times!
He is acting like 37° Celsius isn’t warm damn here in Canada it’s getting that warm and they tell you not to go outside 😂😂😂
cheers for the upload. those kinda products work a ton better if the liquids are coming from the fridge
I'm actually impressed you didnt make any poop jokes, I wouldnt have been able to resist
I have a feeling both are headed for the as seen on tv graveyard.
Nobody cares if you're first
I care :(
@@noiz1762 second!!
Yeah, but you'll be hated if you're a "third"
SeveredWings651 fourth 👑
Alex may the fourth be with you!!!!
Was the Coke chilled before you poured? You mentioned at the beginning the liquid should be chilled. Now I want a slushy. ❤️
Yes it was.
Then I guess the squishing makes a big difference in the 100 degree heat. ❤️
Ya, now im going to get a Slurpee, after work, tomorrow.
@@JasonRBeing how did you day after, after work slurpie go?
I had those when I was a kid. I loved them. :) The ones I had were like much older version of the Slush and Shake Maker. Had a cup that went in the freezer, and a plastic outside with a handle (we had one red and one yellow). And yeah, I kept trying diet drinks in it and they absolutely will not work. Good memories. :)
Dawn I had the same experience - have you been able to find cups like those these days?
I have some kind of version of the frozen magic. I used coke zero and it worked. Perhaps the consistency is different than with sugar beverages, but I got a cold slushy treat. As a diabetic, I was very pleased.
99 degrees
"Its not even that warm"
90 in illinois, and im suffering. Lol
Thats all based on humidity...vegas is dry so the heat doesnt feel so bad whereas the midwest is humid and i wanna die at 90 as well
@@caseysellers214 bull shit..I've never really felt humidity...but here in Vegas the dry heat is TERRIBLE. It dries you out while you drip sweat. At 115° the direct sun is literally burning your skin. Imagine at 122°. I don't know how to drive either😭😭.
@@caseysellers214 honestly, here in springfield il, we dont get too much dry heat. Humid weather i absolutely hate. Ive never been in 110 degree dry heat..
It sounds horrible in my opinion. Give me snow and ice ANY day. But 110 degree dry heat STILL sounds better than 100 degree heat with 90% humidity.
My hats off to yall over there in what sounds like "almost hell on earth"
Give me 0 degree weather ANY day.
That was a fleshlight there dude
It looked like the other hole...
I don't think using soy chocolate milk was a good idea
Your review video quality has been getting better and better.. im thoroughly impressed
I don’t know about these cups but I had similar ones growing up -I’m 57- so about 50 years ago. You put in freezer then poured in drink. They worked great. Wish I still had one of those.
I’ve had one of these rip, and didn’t know. My slushy tasted salty, that’s how you know the inside is ripped.
currently high af reading this and now dead ass laughing
You're not supposed to lick the inside of your Fleshlight bro 🤦♂️
Ah yes, reminds me of chemestry class... Making one of these slushy using salt and ice as the way to cooling it below normal water temperature. This one have similar concept.
@@420f37 this is the most underrated comment in all of UA-cam
Hahahahaha
I'm from NY. We call it soda.
Edited to add
I live in SC now and they call it soda here too.
I'm in Kansas people call it pop but it's soda
I'm from Hawaii. Here it's soda.
When I was a kid everything was coke. I just always thought it was a southern thing
Y'all want a coke?
-Yes!
What kind?
(haha, love the South♡)
My Southern mom would take it a step further and call it a Pepsi. Used to embarrass me at the drive thru when she'd say "and a large Pepsi" and they'd say "we only have Coke" hahaha
It is a southern thing. I think James is from the south. Florida if I remember from another video
@@TamraN that makes sense. After moving to California everyone just thinks I'm crazy when I ask what kind of coke do they have
Been addicted to this channel for a year or so, you have to bump up the frequency of these, if you're doing weekly videos, I would like one on Monday and one on Friday where one of the videos is you comparing budget items to expensive items like your ice tray review
Would love to see you do a review on a solar oven like the GoSun hybrid solar oven :) Where you live would be perfect for one of those i think.
I feel like just putting your drink in the freezer for the same amount of time would work just as well.
It wouldn't, unless you'd surround it with already frozen things, touching the area of the glass.
Well not for the same amount of time but that probably has to do with mixing it so that more liquid comes into contact with container
It really doesn't
“Lets see how warm it is”
*99°*
“It’s really not that warm”
😐
Its not warm until its 110+
i live in the desert, that really isnt that hot, even at 110
WolfHugger 3000 just cause that's a an everyday temp somewhere doesn't mean it's not hot. It's still hot af, most people would be soaked sweating.
99 degrees is normal there? I would HATE that place!
@@blxckjxck47 u get used to it

"Slush and Shake" 😅
honestly I really appreciate your channel. I think money should only be spent on items with some value, hate wasting money and love doing research on everything about items im interested in. these videos allow me to just lay back and let you do all of that for me lol
Maaan...when you’re making the first chocolate slushie, and you said it looks like mud? The visual on screen at that moment looks SO wrong lol.
The reason your first test seemed like an outlier could be because the milk was cold?!?! Just a thought 💭
"...consuming two cups of soy chocolate milk is not going so well" Well, realistically, consuming any soy milk shouldn't go well
The frozen magic can be used as a fleshlight with some minor modifications
hey,
I just want to say that Iove the new graphics that you are now using in your videos!
Dude, “scraping a windshield in the winter”? You’re from Florida, you live in Vegas. . .puh-leeze.
Also there was a similar product 30 years ago that had a handle on the protective cup to further insulate from user. In my attempt to hasten stuff. . .i ditched the protective cup and ended up with a thermal burn on a finger that stuck to the cup.
They’re bothOK.. a frozen coke is a frozen coke. . .get the smooth sided cup every time.
2:30 "these are completely different method." lol the instructions must have messed up your head :)
The flesh light has a smaller area inside so the ice forms quicker
What's funny is I just recently watched a slushy maker comparison and I could've sworn you'd done one already and then you release this new video comparing slushy makers! Spooky but cool. Lol
