- Jaime is back for another double blind. She ended up chooses a 10 year blind battle and once again worked to humiliate me, lol. Widow Jane, Basil Hayden, Eagle Rare, Russell's Reserve, and Michter's 10 battle it out to see who comes out on top.

Eagle Rare is one of the best values in Bourbon…when you can find it!
Eagle Rare, being almost a single barrel, can be VERY hit or miss. Unfortunately, where I live, in the stores, it’s just that, rare.

Love this so much. Double blinds just like this inspired our whole channel. We’ve had so many high priced, high hyped bottles prove to be no better than standard shelf stuff. Kudos to you for being willing to do these double blinds David. Such an enjoyable watch!
They really are fun, especially when Jaime comes and helps. I don't mind the surprises or looking foolish... it's all part of the fun. Yes on bottle hype... the more I expand my experiences, the less I'm excited to spend $$$$ on hype

Your top two are two of my favorite. ER knocked me out the first time I purchased it (IMHO, one of the best bang per buck in a 10 yr.) Last December I brought a Widow Jane Applewood & Oak home one night, tasted it, was super into it, and bought the 10 year and the American Oak offerings the very next day.
Of the others...love me some RR10, haven't tried the Basil Hayden's 10 (other offerings are kinda meh to me) and the Michter's (though they have done me now wrong) is super expensive and hard to find....seen it once in the last year (definitely want to try it, though, if the other offerings tell me anything).
Now, quit hogging Jaime's camera space! 🤣

I got Russell's Reserve 10 year I love it got it for $25 first pour caramel bomb second pour very oaky I stress oaky third pour tasted like WT 101 but lower proof. I like it haven't tried any of the other bourbons you tried 😃🥃
I like Russell's 10 too. Easy to get hooked on. Guess it's a matter of individual taste.
MSRP on Eagle Rare is $40 but in Oklahoma it is basically an allocated bottle and most people that buy it are buying to flip not sip. It sells for anywhere from $80 to $100 on secondary market here in Oklahoma. People shouldn't sleep on that Widow Jane, it is a helluva bottle.

Great episode. Definitely not a train wreck. I really enjoy the double blinds and how they tend to highlight some biasses. Yes, palates are different but these are super helpful IMO.

Loved the episode but must disagree with you on the Russell's 10 it is the only one on the list that I can find consistently on the shelf in my area and at $30 to 35 a bottle it's the best value in a 10 year bourbon. But then wild turkey products are kinda my thing. Keep putting out fun videos and bring the wife more often, she is much better looking than you!

this is only the 3rd episode I watched... and you need more shows like this... the first two I watched were just for information. This one is entertaining.... not a train wreck at all.... you two make a great youtube personality, better than most whiskey couples.....
Appreciate it! We try to balance fun, education, experiences, etc. I love doing the videos together because we honestly love doing them as a couple.

I’m a high proof guy but I enjoy the Russell’s 10 yr. Love Wild Turkey products. Hard to find Eagle Rare in my area of Ohio.
I can't find eagle rare neither. I found widow 10 year for 70.
I love all Wild Turkey except this bottle of RR10 🤷♂️ I bought another bottle of RR10 to see if I just bought a bad bottle

These blind tests are great. I'm disappointed you didn't like the Russell's, but it's all so subjective. Next time out I'll try and find what you rated #1, the Widow Jane. Buying this stuff is all a crap shoot. Always fun, regardless. Enjoy.

Honestly, your tastes are probably changing. First time I tried Stagg Jr. Batch 13 it was my favorite whiskey. Then I bought a bottle and it hasn't captured that initial glory since. Also I got to try RR10 for the first time on my KY trip and I rather liked it. I'm tempted to get a bottle even though I have no need for even more juice in my collection.
Great point, and is probably agree. It seems to shift every 6 months and I find myself migrating towards and away from certain things

It is the first wild Turkey product I didn't like at all. I think it that one particular bottle of RR10 is crap. I just bought a new one and I hope it is better.

Which batch is the Widow Jane?? Seems like some of the batches from 2 years ago people didn’t like but the more recent batches are getting better reviews. Maybe they are perfecting it better.

WJ is MGP 10yr. Hard to not call it great.

Shocking. Of nearly 100 whiskeys I’ve had, Widow Jane is 1 of 2 that I don’t like - I tried it twice on separate occasions. Lots of reviews like it, so I’m not sure why I don’t.
I was the same way. I had a bottle a couple of years ago and was not thrilled, especially at $70. I haven’t had it since, but maybe I had a bad bottle.
You aren't the first that didn't like the WJ... most seem to like it, but I don't like the RR10 and most do 🤷♂️
Jaime is too cute giving you crap David. In fairness to you , blind tastings rarely go the way you hope they will. Something about drinking several whiskeys back to back always screws us up when we are trying to look so Professional 😅

I too have a terrible bottle of Russell's 10, maybe its just more miss than hit.
The only time i tried it, it was a blind tasting, and it was NOT something i wanted to go and buy afterwards. So i would lean towards it being more miss as well

McKenna 10 has been hit or miss for me... just my taste, nothing wrong with it. Some I have really liked and others were fine.

Why keep trotting out the Russell’s 10 you’ve already determined to be an off bottle? Unfair to the whiskey and the viewer. Generally like your work, but why handicap yourself by drinking scotch (or anything) before a bourbon tasting. We’d like a relatively sober opinion. Thanks
Good feedback! I put the double blind list together a while back and have since grabbed another bottle of Russell's 10 to see if it was just a bad bottle because I would expect Is like it. I wasn't that buzzed but probably should had modified the list to have Henry McKenna 10 or something else that would have stood up against the others better
