Samruna Habibi Funk - Al Massrieen - SAH

SAMRUNA [sham-ROO-nuh] meaning ‘fusion; integration; unification’ is Desert Journey’s World Dance Fusion class. This class has a very diverse study of world dances as well as a variety of props.
This dance was bringing back the groove of funk from the 70s style music with the Arab group AL MASSRIEEN to their song called SAH
They were really popular in Egypt in the 1970s this band seemed to be hardly known outside Egypt during that time. Leyla discovered them on the Habibi Funk Records and loved their style. Habibi Funk is dedicated to re-releasing a style of music that historically never existed as a musical genre. The term to describe a certain sound that Habibi Funk Records like from the countries of the Arab world. The songs chosen were created in places quite far from another and under very different circumstances. Some were written and recorded during war times, others in exile. Despite the differences Habibi funk records think there is a musical connection between them. Essentially, Habibi Funk Records are interested in the musical endeavors, in which artists from the Arab world mixed local and regional influences with musical interests that came from outside of the region
