    So, according to this, you need compost to make compost. Also, if your compost develops a sour smell, you need more browns (think wood, so that's leaves, plain paper, cardboard, saw dust).

    I would recommend adding earth worms. They digest the food and provide vermicompost from their guts, which is more nutritious than just naturally composted kitchen scraps.

    The great thing about compost it only takes 1/2" to spread over yougarden, flower bed to help it , but you can add as much as you want of composted material , it will not burn anyone yor plants , but it will continue to break down and be there when your plant needs it and the more compost you add the more water it will hold around the plant to supply it when it needs it even during a drought !

    I have a compost bin (large). but I just throw kitchen scraps into the garden beds. why such difficulties? it will rot on its own and provide fertilizer for future plants.

    • @Itried20takennames
      @Itried20takennames 6 місяців тому +4

      Many people don’t have garden beds, just a few planters on the deck or patio. And just tossing or burying the scraps works, but if only a container garden, then they can’t absorb too many scraps or it just becomes a garbage pile.
      And plants like finished compost, but often don’t like actively decaying scraps around them. The Epic garden channel did an experiment where they planted tomatoe seedlings with different kinds of kitchen scraps beneath them (fish bones, eggs, leafy greens, etc) and one with no scraps. The 4 with kitchen scraps did about the same….but the “no scraps” plant did significantly better than any with scraps under them.

      Alternative to PSB is Curd example 200ml. Shake it well changes as butter milk. Keep it in Air tight container for a Week. It will get fermented. And you can spray this fermented butter milk for faster decomposing. Also you mix kitchen waste with cow dung manure.
