These were pulled from service in 2010 and then sat in Bay Head for over a decade. Hard to believe that the Comet Vs are now older than these were when they were retired.
I live 2 miles from there and watched this for a week. NJ-Transit / Bradley Beach cops were really limiting access. All told 38 cars got scrapped in a 6 week period.
Sad folks but we all have to understand nothing lasts forever. Age begins to take effect just like us as humans let's all just enjoy the moments we have in that time and era.

The Comet IV’s, which are only 6 years newer, have aged like fine milk (as have the Comet II’s that were refurbished to be Comet IV-like in 2003), so I really wish these had been refurbished in 2010 rather than getting mothballed and then scrapped. If nothing else it would have provided some flexibility to take IV’s out of service for some much needed TLC of their own.
I quess that they forgot about all of the people that took them into New York the day of 911 those who never came home those train cars should have been saved for history

Most of the NYC subway, LIRR, and Metro North fleets have been replaced since then, along with (more significantly if this is where your mind goes) the entire PATH fleet, but only NJ Transit is not allowed to change anything? That would be one hell of a museum to contain every train car any 9/11 victim ever rode in.

I totally dissagree with this process done to such fine looking equipment,find some other use for it they do not look that bad that this type of process should be done,i hate seeing this type of thing happening.

I’ve been making a couple of trips down there the last few weeks and got loads of footage and pictures. They are down to 42 out of 46/48 cars as of this writing. I found a bunch of old tickets and even was bold enough to see the interior of 5501/5202 (video on my channel) Great footage man sad to see these cars go.

They are all scrapped as of July 21st, with the exception of the one at the MMC which is not part of this project.

They were all removed and stored. A few have been purchased by collectors for preservation.
