    To me, mix voice is singing notes that could easily be head tones in a louder and more intense way by supporting more, compressing more and sometimes opening more (but not necessarily). These are notes that could easily be light and thin, but instead are done in a way that sounds bigger/chestier. It's a choice and something one develops.

      The exercises helped you? Ima try them. My range when i first started at 13 was G2-F4 but now im 14 and its at Eb2-A4 but the way i sing A4 is wierd. I kinda have to slide up quickly in order to yell it, and it comes out pretty easily and smoothly sometimes. But thats not mix.. And im trying to creat my mix, i should start here

    I love how real you are and that you are willing to sound crazy sometimes. You didn't edit out all of the little odd anomalies that happened while experimenting. I kept judging myself in those moments and Id shut down. I heard someone else recently say "if ur a singer ur gonna sound crazy" so it's comforting to know there's nothing wrong it. Ive never been able to tackle mastering my mix into a belt. Ur videos are helping me gain a deeper understanding so I can work on strengthening and smoothing out the weak spots. I appreciate u MegA!!!

    im still struggling right now, and im inspired from your transformation... i can relate to everything that you said... i hope i can get there from where you are now..... i even tried alot of voice lesson on the internet(even bought some of them)..but it only frustrates me,... i think what makes them less effective, is that they really are born singer(most of them), their body/muscles already know what to do.. but they really dont know the struggles of those who dont know what muscles/techniques to use to produce the so called "mixed"... anyway, this is really a good video..thanks... god bless

      Ink King well A4 is typical for a tenor in chest voice. And A5 is understandable for someone to belt in head voice but just keep in mind the difference. Cause there’s no way anyone is hitting an A in chest even women usually do it mix or head voice. If so then he’s the last castrato lmao

    I think it’s the best tutorial out there. I like how you take another approach by saying you should develop your mix and not just find it out of nowhere. How long did it take you till you started noticing some first mix results in the right direction? Cause I’m really struggling with everything above f4, though I can go up to like a5 with my head voice but around e4-f#4 my chest chords “disconnect”. I can yell it but it’s not the right way to go :/

    what people call the mixed voice is really the natural voice or the whole voice. As a person exercises the vocal muslce they will naturally be able to sing higher and lower. People who talk in a high pitch have been exercising their vocal muscle more than one who talks in a deep voice. the vocal muscle controls the tension in the vocal cords, so the stronger the vocal muscle the higher the voice can go. Sound like nay nay nay, or even lip or tongue trills kind of force one to use the vocal muscle in the right way and strengthen it. the vocal muscle is in the tongue.

    Super interesting and some really helpful exercises! From what I've read, mixed voice doesn't actually exist at all as a "voice", but it's to do with open and closed quotients, whatever that means, lol. The moan and the 'witch voice' you demoed are also classical voice devices. Some things never change! XD

    • @flaze3
      @flaze3 4 роки тому

      @@StudioWestLessons yeah, actually I was thinking that if I ever were to give voice lessons, it would be pedagogically useful to talk about a mixed voice, in order to get the student to easily navigate the passaggi. Also, if you just said there is M1 and M2, students might think that above a certain note they can only sing in a disconnected falsetto (as opposed to pulling up) which is less than ideal. So teaching mixed voice would probably make more sense to them. Then one day I'd turn around and softly say, "you've been lied to all this time". XD

    • @flaze3
      @flaze3 4 роки тому

      @@StudioWestLessons well that sounds like a very practical approach. I certainly agree that if something works and is more simple than a potentially more accurate description of the state of affairs, then go with the former ;)

    • @flaze3
      @flaze3 4 роки тому

      @@StudioWestLessons Lol I don't think it's BS to tell someone he is a baritone! Some people are in fact baritones. The important thing is to work with your voice type to achieve the best results you can. Baritones and even basses can sing a C5, but they won't sing it like a tenor does. For me, it's more damaging to tell someone "you can be a tenor if you want to". Well, no you can't! And a tenor can't be a baritone either. A baritone can sing tenor repertoire and vice versa, but it will always be with more difficulty than for their counterpart.
      Mix voice is useful as a teaching device, whether or not the mode "M1.5" really exists, but misclassifying someone's voice type is at best pointless and at worst dangerous.

    • @flaze3
      @flaze3 4 роки тому

      @@StudioWestLessons well I was classified as a tenor by my first voice teacher and it just led me to strain and sing with a high larynx. When I started taking lessons with a new teacher and he recognised that I was a high baritone, suddenly singing became a lot more pleasurable because I was singing in an appropriate tessitura. I think it's unfortunate that so many songs are written for high male voices, because most males are baritones! Haha

    • @flaze3
      @flaze3 4 роки тому

      @@StudioWestLessons the thing is, I understand all the singing concepts that you have gone over in your videos and have experimented like fuck over the years. The problem is not my range. I can hit notes in the upper staffe just fine and as regards pop, I can get away with singing higher than I normally would. But there's no way I can sing operatic tenor arias. Just try singing una furtiva lagrima in the original key and you'll know what I mean

  • @nightmare4eVerr1

    So finally it all clicks together.
    Mixed voice is essentially M2 in its full connected state.
    However this full connection only occurs at certain pitches, which are conveniently the passagio points.
    A seamless blend occurs between M1-M2 when during the switch, M1 is at the same weight at M2, then you can let go of M1 and jump to M2 with no vocal break.
    However what happens for most is.
    M1 is either to heavy to switch to M2
    This causes breaks.
    Or M2 is not fully connected.
    This causes a heady mix and lacks a ring and singing power
    Another sign of this is that youll be in your M2 mode below your passagio and to compensate youll make M1 very light.
    The true mix is what yoive demonstrated.
    A light balance of M1 with a full compression of M2.
    This will eliminate all vocals breaks that youll never ever notice them

    When you first created your mix, could you only sing up to a specific note without straining or flipping, or did it "unlock" a bunch of notes? At the moment with the crying technique, I start to strain probably at G4. I've been shy most my life, so I am usually softspoken and I wonder if that could have anything to do with it.
    I guess my main question is. When you found your mix, did you kind of have a "top full sounding note", and if so, how did you increase that?

      @@StudioWestLessons Yeah that is what it sounds like when I sing like anything G or above, a tight very nosy and unpleasant sound. Wow, great to hear that through experimentation you improved it.

      Idonotnoseyou keep singing in that voice and it’ll strengthen... Itll also depend on ur voice type . From my experience you should be able to sing some of ur highest notes... not to say overtime you won’t get more but when I first learned how I could instantly sing to like an e5/f5 ish

      @@StudioWestLessons It actually is getting a bit better. Now I can make it sound fuller by relaxing a bit and kinda yawning into it. Making more space as I go higher. I still feel a limitation however, but I know almost nothing is instant.

    Bruh, I was thinking of a totally different 'mixed' voice, ala Alfredo Kraus, between the chest and the head. To me, there is the chest voice, head voice, open falsetto and closed falsetto, so the 'head' voice would be much lower than I think you mean it, such as wear you speak when adopting a British accent! I think I'll check out your other videos! Thanks!

    Is it possible to be in mixed voice but cannot sing high in a mixed voice? Does it need to be trained more to extend your mix? Or you can already sing high when you are in your mix?

    When you started to pick up on the progress and felt that you were going places with it, were there days where you had problems tuning in on your progress or felt that you had set backs and had to "search" for your voice all over again ?

      @@StudioWestLessons GREAT! Now i know that i am on the right track! I allways knew that my singing were aweful because i can hear that it is.I have always thought that its just the way it is and that i cant sing. And lately i discovered that the reason for me singing bad is because i was just singing without actually playing my vocal chords like an instrument, taking time and listening, figuring out what works and what not. Last weeks i have improved greatly and DAMN it feels good when i hit notes and manage to carry them.

    I can do the beginning of Bring me to Life in mix voice but when I go to sing it without open throat or mix I can't even go past B4 ROFL. For me it's like riding a air current while my soft pallet does all the work.

      Try singing on the "oo" or "ee" vowel. Try sirening up and down and let your larynx pivot as you do. Feel the note going up and back.
