I never bought the Airfix model as it was a series 2 pricing, the Matchbox version was in their purple range which made it more affordable for the same plane, and the moulding was better for the time.
Instead of up or down that landing gear "?" note is about whether to use the solid rubber carrier based tailwheel or the air-inflated land based tailwheel.
recently built it and its a good little kit. only real drawbacks I had was with the blue decals on the wings and by the tail for the US markings didn't adhere to some areas as well as normal due to sharp angles it has to go over.
I have this kit in a type 4 box and I think the Rivits look like they would be about 4 inches in really and the Glazing is the same as in my kit. Some of there kits tooling was really good after the start of the 70s
would be nice to see them in the old style bags with the 1 sheet paper instructions again as that would bring back some memories good unboxing and the kit does look good for its age with less flash than a modern revell tool kit lol keep up the good work mos 👍👍
Wings as a single unit which is attached to bottom of fuselage is how the real deal's wings went on. The real wing center section was less lengthy fore and aft, and the pilot seat was attached to a bulkhead/former in the fuselage, but the real wings did go on as one piece. For reference see several photos in Steve Ginter and Righard S. Dann's Brewster F2A Buffalo book published by Ginter Books.
@@MOS6510Models Welcome. And while flipping through the book right quick I saw photo caption saying the wings and fuselage were often (usually?) painted individually before being assembled.
Hi Mossi part b14 is actually a gun sight mate but like your style mate . I think its funny that the Buffalo was the winner but the Wildcat was used a lot longer than the Buffalo by the US navy
Yeah i see my mistake now.. it did confuse me when the boxart shows the weapon firing on the cowling,, but then again if i leave a mistake in the video people do comment which helps the algorithm lol
@MOS6510Models ah thanks mos that's pretty interesting yeah they have given new decals pretty cool when you think about it it's an old kit just repackaged and upgraded decals great video 👍personally I like the old kit box were it's an artist picture painting I got an old kit Lancaster artist painting really good background detail of the plane taking off the runway sarounded with farmers cutting the golden wheat fields you could probably put the box art in a frame if you wanted too . the boxes these days are more commercial

I build it when was first release, for those days was a nice kit, naturally the lack of details in the interior and the undercarriage show its age. Pity that there aren't Finnish decals in the kit, given the success it had in that campaign.
It tells you all you need to know that the loser went on to become a legend, while people who remember this thing tend to shudder. The option is a US Navy collimator gunsight - Commonwealth aircraft were fitted with a reflector gunsight inside the cockpit.

Very cool unboxing Mos!
cheers Sam,, youve been quiet recently
@@MOS6510Models I was live last night buddy.
Love this aircraft. I built a 1/48 scale buffalo from Tamiya. Absolute joy to build.
Right on

i must look out for the matchbox version
Nice quick little kit to build.
Looking great! I built this kit way back in 1973 and loved it. But nowadays I would definitely look for a mask set for that canopy!
I agree.. it’s a beast that canopy
Love the Buffalo as the Dutch also used them in the East-Indies 1942. Nice to have Airfix keep this kit in their range.
yep nice to see it back as a vitage classic
I built that kit in the 1990s. Good unboxing video
Gosh so excited!

I've been looking forward to this kit - wish they'd put some dutch markings in though!
plenty of after market available i guess
And French and German and Spanish and Italian and etc
Nice kit ,I built this a long time back ,and it does display well Nice to see the blue band rather then paint .
yeah thats what i thought matey

I think airfix work on the tooling to get them back to a place where the sprues look ok
Hope to see you in Airfix and chill tonight mate
email me and ill send you a link to be on the panel
This looks like a fun build, especially with that cool US Navy paintscheme.

Ive built five or six of these recently (eBay) I can’t wait to get the new decals and build a few more.

The part running through the canopy isn't a weapon but the American gunsight

Hey moss do they just take the kit out the old box and just put it into a new box so it's not been retooled
Its old tooling.. but they redesign the decal sheet, give you a better call out and i think they repair the tool

Not bad. Hobby Boss makes a F2A in their Easy Assembly line that's probably a similar price, but the decals in this are probably better.
Also better is that Airfix gives the pilot. 🙂

What a weird stubby little plane! I shall have to google to find out what it was used for. Never heard of it before.
Under rated apparently and RAF bought them as back ups
2 Different yellows ?
i think the red is shading it different
@@MOS6510Models I`m not sure, looking carefully on you video instructions show 2 yellows but maybe one is for pilot? I dont know 😕
The wings are painted in a colour similar to trainer yellow with the squadron identification tail marking in lemon yellow.

Why're you wearing those blue gloves?

Старая модель 70- х годов в новой коробке...Проблема старых моделей в плохом качестве прозрачных частей...на все остальное можно ,закрыть глаза,...😂😅

I'D THROW THE KIT AWAY AND USE THE DECALS ON THE VINTAGE MATCHBOX KIT .. ALL THOSE RIVETS ARE BULLSHIT AND PRACTICALLY INVISIBLE ON THE REAL THING

Or best of all, get the more modern Hobby 2000 kit.
Obviously crap from old airfix.
