These didn't "flop" because they are bad, I actually hate Jordan 5's and I really like these (especially this color way). They "flopped" because DJ Khaled.
That's what I'm saying! They flopped because nobody really likes DJ Khaled like that. Nobody wants his "we the best" slogan on their sneaker. Like who is "we"? And anybody who really listens to rap knows exactly how corny Khaled is.

If you can't get over your own bias to enjoy these colourways, then that's on you dude.
Love them. Color is different from other releases. Quality is amazing - leather is butter. They sat because 1) too loud for some people 2) hard to match 3) we the best on heel 4) price.
Just rock these with khakis, light wash jeans, grey wool/flannel pants, grey joggers etc. You can rock these with a lot of colors - no need to match.

To me this shoe is what separated the HYPEBEAST VS someone who really enjoys the craftsmanship of a shoe!!! If it’s not going to make you money they won’t buy them!! Me personally I received my pair and there are immaculate IMO I enjoy the shoe for what it really is and not just the hype

biggest reason (atleast for me): No one wants DJ khaled's name on their sneakers. Even coming from someone who likes 5s. Take the name off them and I would have absolutely wanted to grab the sail pair.
the 3s only poppin because its extremely limited (sub 100 or sum like that) and its a 3, a very popular jordan model.
At some point , we really have to consider that the word “flop” really is tied to reselling cause they either sold out or sold with deep discounts in certain places. The quality is amazing and everyone could obtain it if they wanted to manually… so where the flip factor come from. I thought the point was to cop what you like if you can tho ?

So glad these were easy to pick up. Feels very premium for a jordan brand release. Unique colorway, great materials, packaging, 4 pairs of laces. I don't love dj khaled, but i also dont hate him. I just thought it was a dope shoe and definitely worth my $225. I mean the midnight navy 4s i got were $210 for just a GR white jordan 4 but those sold out instantly...

I think they flopped because of all the colourways he revealed on social media, the 2 they released to the general public were the weakest - that plus the high price (same reason a lot of 1's sat this year) and the fact they released a summer colourway in autumn!
These 5s are super underrated in hand.
I got them and they are fantastic quality I think it's just the colorway... If they would have released a more basic colorway as the GR and this as the exclusive people would be fawning over them. I think a more basic colorway would have sold better.
I dig this color way a lot. And I would have picked these up.. but the collab branding with DJ Khalid kills it for me.
Got the Crimson Bliss for a sold price, I absolutely love their tone, and I'm glad they were sitting. People who really wanted these were able to get them. I guess they flopped due to the market, they were released at the same time when people were waiting for the lost & found, the cherry 11's .. etc. A lot of sneakers flopped due to poor timing even the A Ma Maniere 4's flopped.
That colourway is fire, too bad I’m broke so I couldnt get a pair 😢😢😢
I got mine from Plato's closet for 75 this year with the box basically dead stock
I personally love these. I hit on SNKRS and was honestly excited even though the hype wasn’t there. The quality is amazing for a Jordan and I love the slimmed down nature of this 5. I think the release was soft for these reasons:
- the timing was off. Released in the fall (def a spring/summer color way) and was released alongside some of the most hype shoes of the year (l&f, amm4, and the orange lobsters)
- the 5 isn’t a hyped up model. Jordan 1s had their day and now we live in the heyday of 4s but for the hypebeast sneakerhead, 5s ain’t it.
- the economy definitely played a part. If these dropped during 2020/2021 when stimmy checks were going out, these would have been an instant sell out.

I picked up the Sail colourway. I am not a J5 guy but I would rock the Sail colour.
I love the colors! Definitely a summer/spring shoe. But I literally ONLY bought them because they match an essentials jacket I bought. Khaled had no influence on my purchase 😭😂
I hit on the SNKRS then canceled the order. I have no idea why, wasn’t crazy about them.

It's a clean shoe and the quality is on point. Got a lot of compliments on them, I like a shoe that stands out.
Glad I could cop a pair for retail.
Personally I love this pair, I wore them yesterday and the quilted inner liner makes the shoes pretty stiff regardless of the plush leather on the upper. I found my shins and top of my feet in pain after a day of wear. Apart from that, I think these released too close to so many other incredible releases such as the AMM 4s and the LandFs. I think these are beautiful and my kind of colorway

I don't think these flopped. People who think this are whats wrong in the shoe game. If they only released say 305 pairs only in miami or made them friends and family only then people would still be hating saying they shouldve made more, but now when Jordan brand and Khaled give the people more instead of limiting them they say they're flopping. I guess people can never be satisfied

Because these are not Jordan 4s. If DJ Khaled did this release on Jordan 4s, they would instant sellout. Good for me though. I don't have to pay stupid money for them. I think they are super nice with the blue laces.
It's a really hard color to match. They look great until you try to match your gear.

These are “Pristine!” Very well executed…Promotion, Box presentation, Quality, Color way, Extra shoestrings. Dope shoe. I already had apparel that matched up perfectly prior to the reveal. Tha crimson and UNC blue accents scream summer! If u have swagger, this shoe definitely connects with U. I had Absolutely no issues putting multiple outfits together with these. Dope shoe!

For me personally, every color way is a 10/10 and I love 5s, but the “We The Best” branding is an automatic 9 point deduction.
I had the same thing happen to me on the SNKRS app. Tried for them and didn’t get them. Then saw them sitting I was over them already

I think one of the reasons they flopped is/was because of the color, but if they would've shown them with the Blue laces then I think they would have been doing better. Honestly the Sail and Black too would have been better, those salmon pink laces with the shoe is too much. The Quality is insane and I'm surprised they aren't doing better? It just shows hypebeast run the game.

They flopped on release because to much heat came out at one time. People had been picking them up on sale now just got my pair and I love them same thing with the trophy room 7's bad timing on the release
They should have never put “we the best” on the heel. That was my deal breaker for the sail ones. Might still cop if the drop low enough

They screwed with the ankle padding, the color is great if your into it, I’m not, and the collab subject is mid…all adds up to an easy pass for me. On a better note I scored with the Cherry 11’s and A Ma 4’s so no room for me to spend more $$$ on a mid sneaker, and i love 5’s.

I like the shoe and the color but the We The Best on the back is kinda a turn off. I have a pair but haven’t worn them. I plan on it eventually but the We The Best on the back is pretty ugly.

I got two pair. One for retail but my second pair for like 190. Great shoe and pops out in the court. In light mod my pair a bit. Thinking for painting then blue part on the midsole black. Then I want to remove the embroidery of “we da best”.

For me it's twofold: one Khaled isn't a big enough name to drive me to get it. The man embodies cringe and the way he treated these are God's gift to sneaker heads irritated me. Second the colors, and in combination the silhouette, is so boring. I'm done with all the retro Jordan's and there's nothing special about the colors. I want new shoes and new, inventive colors. It's why I like the Wotherspoon Adidas. They may not be other people's cup of tea but they're like nothing else out there and I LOVE that.
The "we the best" is not associated with fashion like virgil abloh is with off white .
Got myself a pair plus the white slightly above retail. Love them. Quality is amazing. Would love to get the purple colorway if that ever came out.

The timing and colorway are th reason why they flopped. Nobody wants to wear bright color shoes in the winter. It’s like he made the shoe for only ppl who live in Miami and not the general public.
The sneaker world is just finally dying down with the hype. The This was a top release for me for the year.
All Sneakers may not sell out instantly anymore but if they only last a day on the site that’s still a success. 💪🏾

This reminds me of the Travis 4s, on release day I was buying as many pairs for $50-75 over retail… they stayed at that price for months then skyrocketed
What's up Hes - I think it's a combination of things:
1. The loud silhouettes of Jordans 3-5 don't really go with today's more subdued aesthetic. I bought the OG fire red Jordan 5s, maybe to please the high-school version of me, but then found that I couldn't wear them with anything so I returned them. And they're still sitting at basically retail.
2. This just wasn't that great of a colorway. The main peach color is nice, but none of the other colors are complimentary to it. Compared to Union's more thoughtful and contemporary Jordans, these seem "whatever".
3. Nike/Jordan brand have been losing the trust of the sneaker/fashion communities. Most of the colors they come out with seem more like wearable advertisements for their brand (loud for the sake of attention, rather than beauty). It's not a coincidence that a lot of the OG colors from 80s/90s nikes could still fly today. It's because they were designed to look good. Apple does designed obselescence and Nike does designed semi-wackness.
4. The people who still have a nostalgic connection to MJ the player are no longer the ones who put up big purchasing numbers.
I like the orange colorway but I'm an orange fan. i missed out on them because I didn't even know when they released but if I had known i would have tried for them. I think they're sitting because tbh DJ Khaled just isn't as popular as he thinks he is. Plus I think the colorways don't really go with much and they're kind of crazy colors, although that's a plus for me, i love loud colors.

The reason why these DJ Khaled collab flopped? DJ Khaled. Honestly I can't see someone as cringey as him somehow be as wildly successful as he has been anywhere else in the world. And getting celebrated for it.
I love Jordan 5s, and it's such a shame this beautiful colourway has been tarnished by the association from this collab. Such a damn shame.

I feel they ‘flopped’ because of the timing of the release. They came out during possibly the most stacked release period. Also the colourway, although not bad screams 2010.

they definitely didnt flop .. the blue n purple pairs are friends n family…the sail color was only to exclusive stores … the crimsons we available for majority of people who wanted them.. and floppin is term used for reaellers .. i wear my shoes not resell.. ill never pay resell prices ..i copped on snkrs ..
They “flopped” because of the colorway if you look at the sail colorway those sold out quick also releasing a crimson colorway in fall/winter not a smart move

And some people are still in denial that the "We The Best" slogan on the back does not affect anything, thinking its a minor detail. The truth is, just being that corny alone can affect people's perception of the sneaker and their buying decision. Here's an analogy: a cool leather biker jacket would instantly be ruined if you embroidered "coolest man alive" at the back.
The difference between kanye's ego and khaled's ego is that, Kanye's ego and confidence is more vague, controversial, avant-garde, and culturally influential, which is cool and thought-provoking. Meanwhile Khaled is more like a living and breathing instagram motivation quote, made worse by the fact that people dont even know what he clearly does in music. Deny all you want, but kanye's yeezy selling out and his cult following speaks for itself.
Yes, Khaled's unreleased jordan 3 did generate massive hype even WITH the "We The Best" slogan, back in 2013. But people change, culture change, society change. Why do you think swag era, emo era, and hipster era fade out? and that slogan still sounds cool back when khaled is on the rise and the term sounds fresh. Now, he's globally famous which invokes "sellout" perception, and the world is tired of him spamming his slogans all over music and media
I don't like this collab however that fact that it was easy to get and no resell make it awesome for those who really want to wear the kicks.

3. the colorway isn‘t that popular
4. even his 3‘s were so overhyped (it‘s a f‘in red shoe)

I just returned the pair that I hit on snkrs. They are great quality, but color is hard to match. Plus my wife yelled at me for buying 3 pairs of shoes in a 2 months.

The colorway is not for everybody, a lot of people don’t really like khaled, economy is not the best, these weren’t limited so hypebeasts didn’t care etc. Do I care about all of that. Hell nah, I wanted a pair ‘cause I really like them so I got it no sweat, so I just love the fact they sat. Hopefully it happens more often

I loved the quality. I got them, BUT I just feel like I can’t wear them with everything. And I’m not a huge DJ Khaled fan. I like him ok, but I almost felt a lil embarrassed to have his branding on the shoes. I ended up returning them.

I don't see how these flopped. Anyone who wanted them got them. Its not like you see them sitting in the discount sale racks at Ross. They are a high quality sneaker that, again, if you wanted was available. ALL releases should "FLOP" like this.
Personally, I put these in my Top 10 SOTY. I love the colorway, color blocking, materials, and slight modification to the ankle padding (reduction). I think the 2 biggest reasons why they “flopped” are the high stock numbers and the fact they didn’t get as much “hype” from hypebeasts prior to releasing. Right now AJ4s are the wave so these could go up in demand in the short term.

The color is just not wearable. I doubled up my size 11.5 which is decent in resale market - I never sell shit on stockx, check goat or stadiumgoods they sell at ok price
