    I use the predator tactics deadeye tripod. It's around $250 but it's about 3 pounds lighter. It will pivot and it also has the ability to be fine tuned to your height easier with the center column that adjusts. But it can only be mounted to a picatinny rail. In my opinion that is it's biggest shortcoming.

    I've had my Aluminum version for a year and I like it. They have a camo version too now. I kinda wish I had the Carbon fiber version sometimes.

    Before you buy consider these points! One: The panning collar has 4 speed bumps on it. N-S-E-W So in your panning you will have to deal with this. Why this even exists is beyond me. Cameras don't need it, I have never needed this for tracking at targets. Two: The Grip is made of plastic and pot metal. It doesn't inspire confidence when you put a $3k plus rig in it's care. One more point I had to tape the red collapse buttons to add confidence. In my book that's 3 strikes! Better luck with yours!

    One other point that may be of interest: I've heard that the aluminum legs, if they get a dent in them, can lose their ability to telescope in and out (this is from a guy who let his tripod rattle around in the back of his pickup). The carbon fiber supposedly is resistant to denting, and the legs continue to telescope smoothly.

    • @SouthernExtremeTV
      @SouthernExtremeTV  3 роки тому +1

      That’s a great point. Have not thought about that. Wonder if the carbon would crack rather than dent???

      @@SouthernExtremeTV Dang. I hope not! I think it would take quite a crushing force to do that.

      I was about to type exactly the same concern about aluminum legs. I’m glad I read few comments before making one. Aluminum tubes unfortunately dent to easy. I take carbon fiber any day and that is worth extra few dollars to me. The difference in price I paid, is like 65 bucks.

    • @thomasrut523
      @thomasrut523 2 роки тому

      I agree about the ease of denting. I have suitcases that no longer retract because they've been dented on luggage carousels or stairs. I have ice chests that no longer retract or extend because of indentations from use. The carbon fiber means the tripod will last many more years than aluminum. Add to that the quieter operation when hunting, the lighter weight when packing, the warmer temperature to grab when panning and the cooler look of carbon fiber - it's worth the extra money.

    My question is is it just aluminum legs wrapped in carbon fiber as a feature and not as actual reduction of weight.

    No one's mentioned this but these are actually great for mounting scopes too, as opposed to a traditional gun vice.

    I really like the look of the carbon fiber legs on the tri[pod. I happen to like the camouflaged one as well. My point is if it is that cold wear some gloves. Or get the carbon fiber one.

  • @jamespriour6516
    @jamespriour6516 Рік тому

    Even with Carbon Fiber is very heavy, bulky, slow to setup, and wasn't that rock solid even for only a 300 yard shot. Thanks for the video!

    Thanks for the review man. So, with lacking the ability to tilt or cant the rifle, what are your thoughts about shooting off uneven terrain? Maybe shooting off a slope? I am guessing the ability to adjust the legs... You know, I think I just need to buy one and figure it out. Again, thanks for your review man!!!

    • @dip30ful
      @dip30ful Рік тому +1

      Year old but anyway. Its a tripod. If ground isn't level. Just adjust the leg that's on the highest ground a bit shorter than the other two.

  • @harrymiles2906

    I bought one and didn't like the way the saddle head wouldn't hold up my rifle. I have a 9.6lbs rifle and unless you spend time carefully balancing the rifle in the saddle is will easily sag backward all the way to the stop. Okay for a budget tripod but I wouldn't recommend it if you're planning to do precision shooting....probably not what it was design for anyway.

    Maybe a dumb question but I’ve been looking into getting one of these tripods but I was wanting to use it for filming and my question is can you take the head off and swap it out for a fluid head? I’m wanting to put a manfrotto 501 fluid head on it and can’t seem to find the proper information on if the head is removable or not

    I hope that you are not shooting a rifle in the air . The angle adjusts are for standing 20 , sitting 45 and 85 degrees for laying on your belly / prone position and not shooting a rifle up in the air for the bullet to come down and kill someone a mile away .

      as long as you have something that you rear arm/butt of the stock to rest on then yes you can. I use this everyday to sight in my rifles for hunting. Once I start going past 100 yards to create a true dope chart then I transition to a bench and bags.

      I really depends "In my opinion" if youre a left or right handed shooter. Furthermore it also depends on what hand you want to use for operating the tension dial to allow for a more fluid movement while hunting.... No right or wrong way... what ever works for you. Thanks for watching.

    I have the original one i love it , my 6.5 grendel a r with a ATN thor thermal 1500 range finder is a little heavy coming in at 11,2 pds but this bad boy holds it up no problem. If you hate missing a coyote as bad as i do because your a old fart like me and I'm not as steady but since I got this tri pod I've not missed since, i couldn't see giving $50 more for 1 pd difference but that's me. Something else when zeroing your scope in ,this is all you need it keeps wherever you put it ,i love mind ,wouldn't go hunting with anything else and i have owned bi pods tri pods and i haven't seen anything yet that will compare to it ,probably will be the last tri pod that i will ever own

    • @Blueknight1960
      @Blueknight1960 Рік тому

      @@darkscope2 TF I'm talking about? I have a 5th scale rc and the original aluminum shock towers got bent. I ordered some carbon fiber shock towers, they started wearing ( Rather quickly )where the bolt went through and the bolts would no longer stay tight. Yes in tensile strength carbon fiber might be stronger but, it is not that durable.
