    This is really helpful. It's absolutely INSANE that Microsoft don't bother including instructions for aircraft with the game. You're just supposed to guess, with a plane whose controls bear no similarity at all to a regular civilian plane.

    What I like about this jet the most is how easy it is to land and how you can just point into a certain direction and hit autopilot to go to that point without hitting anything. It's a really convenient jet for free flight when you don't have a specific route. You can just point in a direction, and you're there. The autopilot feature for a locked angle is extremely helpful for pointing at a runway and letting the jet go down for you. I use the f18 for a lot of my free flight. The f35 is my second favorite for following routes.

    For FSX, I have the VRS Superbug, which is the best Hornet sim ever made. Not only does all the systems function, like the radar, weapons, etc. it has the best manual ever made. But it doesn't work in 2020 so the default hornet is the only thing available. It's such a let down. But I swear on the real one if you're in heading select mode you can go to the scratch pad, enter the heading and hit enter and it will take you to that heading. If I type 210 ENT the plane will go there. The BALT function works the same in the new one, but nothing else. Nice tutorial. Liked and subbed

    THanks man this helped. I like how CPL mide works with the waypoint mode like it did in FSX, however it should also be implemented with ILS mode just like in FSX so you could enter an ils freq, and just switch from WPT to ILS and makes sure Coupled to ILS. It was nice in FSX

      That'd be nice :-) I'm hoping they implement the CRS functionality at some point so I can cover TACAN navigation, which is supported but you can't choose your course to the station, only go directly to it.

    • @thingonthething8150
      @thingonthething8150 2 роки тому

      The F18 is almost hilariously outdated when it comes to this. First it doesn't have an ILS, just a carrier ILS. So thats definitely out. Then as far as flying an approach, its all manual. No CDI, just a little thing that says left or right of course at the bottom of the SA page. Can't believe it's legal but yup...thats how we fly approaches. If it's down the mins, then PAR is our only option

Would be interesting however, if you could do a full guide on the F18, from starting up, to flying a course to landing. I've tried searching and it's hard to find a full detailed guide, it's all very general.

As background info. I flew to Homey this morning, and everything was going great. I had an excellent approach to the runway, flaps down and lined up to land, but I pressed the landing gear button on my Thrustmaster, but my landing gear wouldn't come down. Is there a speed limitation or something? Thanks for your help.

    • @KipOnTheGround
      @KipOnTheGround  2 роки тому +2

      I did experiment a bit with using the GTN750 mod (since you can open it from the in-game toolbar in any plane) but wasn't able to edit the flight plan and have it stick -- it kept deleting it basically. But, simple direct-tos seemed to work fine. You can get the free version here: pms50.com/msfs/
      You can also navigate via TACAN/VORTACS, but because the CRS knob isn't functional yet you can't specify your course yet. If they make the CRS knob functional in an update then I'll probably do a second tutorial for how to use and navigate w the TACANs.

    • @KipOnTheGround
      @KipOnTheGround  2 роки тому +2

      I didn't realize it was functional, but just tried it out and it does work. On the center display, you can enter the TACAN or VORTAC channel number (as found on the sectional charts -- e.g. LAS VORTAC is channel 116). Type 116 then click "TCN". It should update to say "TCN 116". Then click TCN to go into the TACAN menu, and it seems like you need to press "116Y" so it says "116X". Then you should see the TACAN info and bearing on your HSI. If you then press "TCN" on the HSI, you can use CPL mode to fly directly to the station.

    Hi, I know this is off topic but I'd like to know if you still use onair company? Because I wonder which one between onair and air hauler 2 chooses. I am looking for a career as a pilot more than running a company. • @KipOnTheGround
      @KipOnTheGround  2 роки тому +1

      If the subscription cost isn't a barrier (it's *much* cheaper if you prepay for 1 or even 2 years instead of doing month-to-month), I prefer OnAir over the others because it's all done online and everything is backed up. You also have the future options of getting into renting out your planes to others, hiring and managing an entire airline (if not on the "Thunder" server), running FBOs, joining or running a virtual airline, etc. that make it great for long-term use. I use it as a solo pilot too, but love that those options are there if I ever wanted to try them out. NeoFly is free and has a lot of great mission types, so it's a no-brainer to try out as well. I only tried Air Hauler briefly and it just didn't click for me for some reason (I probably have just gotten used to OnAir and Skypark), but IMO anything that meets your budget and career-mode needs will get the job done -- all of them are great at motivating you to fly more :-)

      Only way I know of is by using the AP disconnect shortcut. It's Shift+Z on keyboard by default, and most yokes/sticks have it set to a big (usually red) thumb button.

    Hi friend, how to have in external view the military pilot with the helmet and everything? I have a civilian pilot! Can you help me please?

      I think the option to choose which pilot and copilot is under General options / Misc. The new military ones are the last 2 in the options.

    HOW DO YOU TURN THE AP OFF? Great video missing one basic solution.

      You'll need to press your AP disconnect button/shortcut. By default it's Shift+Z on PC, or generally a large thumb button on most sticks or yokes.

    When i click on BALT to hold altitude it does Not engage. Balt is selected with the highlighted green square 🟩 but the altitude does not hold. Is there a way to do it?

      Hmm. I'm wondering if your stick/yoke/controller needs a "dead zone" increase in the Controller/Sensitivity settings. If there are unintentional inputs to the pitch/roll/yaw it'll auto-disconnect the autpilot. Do you have this issue with any other autopilot?

      i had the same issue, go into controller settings in windows and increase deadzone for x and y movements
