@@timothyjaydyning3247 Honestly I think that makes it even more peak, way too many animes keep dragging on until they become drab and boring. A short, concise but focused story is not a bad thing
For those curious: the mangaka of the Dungeon Meshi series, Ryoko Kui, had refused the idea of an anime adaptation until she could finish the manga/story proper. Allegedly, part of this was to avoid the common problem of anime studios adapting only ONE season from popular manga & light novels, and/or needing a second studio to finish subsequent seasons with drastically different art/animation styles (ex: attack on titan, one punch man, etc.). It's doubly awesome that she was able to get TRIGGER of all studios to adapt the series, and triply awesome that it's the first project that they'll be working on to get a second season because of it. The manga has 97 chapters, which started in 2014 and only recently finished in 2023. EDIT: I forgot to add this bit since people talking about it in the replies reminded me - while the manga itself was never mainstream in the US (and really only popular with the most avid manga enjoyers & tumblrfolk), it was actually quite popular in Japan; being advertised on billboards, polled on magazines, and even winning a few awards, I guess you could say Dunmeshi was a popular niche? So people have been talking about an anime adaptation for a while, and the question was never if but when.

It’s so tempting for them to accept anime deals while the series is freshly hot to ensure the hype train keeps chugging.
