You made me spit soda all over my phone
Oooo DO NOT use soil for an orchid!!! It will rot! You need FRESH orchid bark or moss! And put it in a special plastic orchid pot so it will stay root bound, that’s what they love.
It looks like it was rotting from too much water before, don’t over water either! Honestly it looks like it may be too far gone but perhaps not, just get it out of soil 😫
Would a peat based soilless mix work?
@@lapua9828 NO. do not use sand, soil, or peat, ONLY use peat if you use ALOT of perlite(peat:perlite=1:3). Use moss, fern roots, wood chips, wood, coal and porous stuff, like hydroton. Some species of orchids like some vandas and vanillas love soil, so do your research.
@@garcias2039 i asked because peat is moss, but I'll have to do some research thank u
@@lapua9828 the only reason you could use peat and perlite, but no soil. Is because cocopeat or peatmoss doesn't have a lot of nutrients in them. Beware, and do your research.
Yeah that bad boy looked suuuuper wet
That thing is gone... and if it had any chance left, that potting soil finished the job...

1st time in my life, I see soil with orchid!!!!! I'm amazed with her "expertise" with orchids!!!! 🤔🤔🤔
You just ripped the velamen off of the few viable roots you did have. You also planted it in SOIL! The vast majority of orchids are lithophytes or epiphytes…..they don’t grow in soil. Hence why it was originally in bark.
People please don’t follow anything you saw in this video when it comes to growing orchids.
Everything in this video made me gag, considering I've saved an orchid that looked like what she had at first. I fear for anyone doing anything remotely like what she did
The tittle is totally incorrect, it shouldn’t be title will this being my 💀 orchid to life? Is still clickable and honest. However the tittle she used is a lied 🤥 and frankly I will never want to follow her channel or click on any of her videos as she’s misleading her audience and also if you’re an orchid person you know what she just did is totally horrible for the poor plant
@@luci_datum Literally. My orchids sit in *empty* pots and I either spray their roots with water or let them sit in the sink for a little bit and they are doing great.
Lmfao
@@luci_datumplease my orchids looks the same and i wanna save them. How to?
If it ain’t dead you just killed it
You did to those roots the equivalent of entirely skinning a human then sang ‘let’s see what happens’ 😂
I thought the same thing 😂
Any update on what happened?
All those roots look rotted. You were pulling the velamen off of the roots which is a sheath that helps the roots absorb water, and it being so easily removed is a sign the root is too far gone. In the future never use soil as a potting medium for orchids unless they're specifically terrestrial which phalaenopsis orchids arent. You should use orchid bark, pot it into a clear plastic slotted pot, and water when you can see that most of the roots are dry and silvery white. When watering, use distilled or rain water, and let the roots soak for a couple minutes before dumping the excess water. Best of luck!
I need this type of optimism in my life!!!
naaah, this is cluelessness...
i am about to do the same thing in a minute haha
Happy you are so a happy go do girl. But never remove the outside of the root like that. Only cut of the ones that are bad. You killed it. Looked like there was 2 good roots still there. But practice makes perfect. You are a good person with good energy. Keep posting.
Fix your grammar
Oh my god the soil 😭 I nearly had a heart attack! Rip Phalenopsis
NNNOOOOOO OMG noooo you literally finished it off 😥
These comments go hard AF. I love learning a out how things/what things like to grow
Seriously tho, the comment section on her videos are so educational
There's a lot of newbies to gardening, landscaping, and plants that decide to start channels to make money. (And a few I've seen lately have merch stores).
This channel isn't so bad, but it's hard when you do this for a while or actually have a passion about something (orchids are not mine), and then see people just make videos and make these big mistakes.
My pet peeve are the fruit trees from seed videos. Most trees take FOREVER to get from seed to anything even resembling the size of a fruiting tree, and typically they're grafted to ensure you get A) fruit. B) the varietal you want.
A lot of hybridization can occur and cross pollination meaning what you get is probably going to be weird or bad, or you'll get nothing.... Citrus, stone fruits, and pears and apples all are like this, and they're the ones most commonly attempted.
It's also not like after 3 years of trying to grow a cherry tree you're going to go back and say, "you were wrong and that totally didn't work!!!"
Landscapers esp the mowers and cleaners DESTROY everything in their massive cleanups. They completely scalp overgrown grass, move over neglected flower beds, and just go to town with the string trimmer on hedges (wrong tool and it severely damages the plants). They're supposed to be "satisfying" but as some of the biggest cringe content.
IT WILL DIE IN THAT POT. They are very particular, need orchid soil specifically, and should never be put in that ridiculous pot. Christ. They are sold in that manner SO THEY DIE and you will buy more. Don’t leave it in there.
Where should I put it
@@growithjessie in pot that’s a lot bigger than that with proper orchid soil. This orchid in particular already looks pretty gone, but there’s a chance it could come back if treated right. In the future, always repot your orchids after buying them
@@growithjessie look up Orchid Girl. She has a channel on UA-cam.
@@growithjessie a plastic pot with holes that promote air ventilation!!! (Very important) and also a transparent pot that you can see the roots and you dont need to take the plant out of the pot to see what is happening to the roots. (And never use a decorative pot with orchids because its necessary to have a transparent pot with holes for drainage and ventilation)
I hate to say it to you, but if that orchid was salvageable, you killed it
(To see if the root is good you need to feel if its mushy or hard, if its hard Its a good root and if its mushy you only need to cut the mushy part) ps: please dont destroy the root by opening them!
@@growithjessie honestly do proper research before posting informative videos like this!
This was the funniest thing to watch
i will never understand people that can just hear a tip once or twice then immediately trust it and implement it without any further research. i gotta research for at least a couple hours before making any decision ever 😭 lol
Same!
I do the same before I touch any of my plants
This... Was painful. But I also had to rewatch? 😅
Orchids in the wild grow off trees, using aerial roots to cling onto to trees, they really like a lot of airflow and humidity, so repotting in sphagnum moss or orchid bark is your best bet, I’ve found that orchid bark is a lot better because it’s a lot less likely that you will over water your orchid, it’s best to also keep them in a plastic pot with holes on the side and in the bottom (and if it didn’t come with one you can diy it with your own plastic cups I did that to one of mine lol 😂😂) but they are tricky plants sometimes, so don’t get down on yourself that you killed one it happens! Best of luck on any future orchids!
Iv found orchids in shpagnum bogs, not growing on trees. Its specifically tropical orchids that do that.
Your comment is great - correct and criticising for the good with positivity.
This made me feel a lot better about my orchid keeping skills… But hey, A+ for optimism!
A "How to" video but doesn't know the outcome! Brilliant!!
Lol😂
Love your POV. Should repot in orchid mix- it's lighter and has charcoal to help prevent fungal growth.
Girl! 😂💀 I just knew the orchid growers were going to have a time, they did not disappoint! 😅
That thing is beyond salvageable. It would be a miracle from the plant gods if that orchid rebounds from all trauma to whatever roots were left and manages to survive from that dense soil.
You could try it in mulch or just spray it with hydrogen peroxide, let dry, and spray the inside of an empty Tupperware with the tiniest bit of water and close it in there. A lot of epiphytic plants will bounce back in just humidity as long as they're clean and no developing mold
I'm not sure that'll actually recover 😔 I'm new to orchids but one of the things I learned is that when the fleshy outer covering rots or is taken off of the root, that root is no longer functional. Also typically when the orchid dies back it keeps most or all of its leaves, just the flowers die. Orchids are epiphytic so they grow up in trees with very little actual soil around their roots. That's why orchid bark is used. It emulates the natural, quick draining environment they grow in. I repotted my orchid in espoma (just the brand my nursery had) orchid mix in a plastic orchid pot with drainage slits on the bottom and sides and I bottom water/let it soak in a bowl of water for about 15 minutes whenever I notice the leaves are getting limp and wrinkly. Avoid getting water into the crown of the leaves as this might cause rot. I also keep it in bright indirect light, the brightest spot I have where the sun never actually hits the plant directly. I think this is working well, I'm getting a new leaf even!
Good luck, and happy growing!
Okay I was happy with the comments cause orchids don't need soil.
I think I'll watch this next time I get very enthusiastic thinking I can raise the dead !
so glad I read the section because people know what they're talking about. I got to replant my orchard and will put it in some water with no potting soil
See what haaappeennnnssss!!!
It's gonna diiieeeeeeee!!!
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 #FACTS
Orchids grow on trees, you put it in bark with a air pot, soak when bone dry and keep it at 17c for 6 weeks for flower spikes it’s so easy 😭 how are people still making these mistakes
Probably because people don't know like me. I have several orchids and have not accept once been able for them to reproduce flowers.
Hey all these roots are rotten, if the roots are mushy like that that means they’re dead. The thin roots you’re seeing is the internal parts of the plant’s roots, you need the whole thing. Also, if there is no crown it can’t grow back
My boyfriend gifted me an orchid a few years ago, the bloom died and the leaves are healthy but it will not rebloom! Meanwhile his mother has a collection of massive incredible orchids that ALWAYS flower and last for months and months
Sounds like a bonding moment for you and his mom I’m sure he would enjoy seeing you bond with his mom over a mutual love of orchids.
Fertilise after they bloom! They spent a lot of energy to flower and need to rebuild those nutrients in order to bloom again.
Hi, if they're phalaenopsis you must place them in a bright room around 16-18°C for a few weeks and it will bloom
Or you can cheat and just get kiki paste.😏 You're welcome 😁
By now, you've probably figured out how to grow beautiful orchids
If not, check out Miss Orchid Girl's channel here on UA-cam. She's da best! 😊
I don’t know why yt keeps recommending me this channel when there are people out there who know what they are talking about…
I bought an orchid 6 years ago and it’s been blooming every year since. We just keep watering it once a week with an ice cube
You don’t necessarily need to use an ice cube, it really doesn’t matter how much water you put in it, just so long as you let it dry out before watering again, orchids like warm water much more then cold, but man six years!!! That’s an impressive old orchid!! Props to you!
i watered my orchid twice with "ice cube" and it died. never again 😢
I did this after watching this video not really thinking much of it after tossing it into water and putting it at the top of my kitchen cabinet instead of in bark or soil. I literally forgot about the thing but I pulled it down one day because I wanted the glass to propagate something else and what do ya know! Two air roots about an inch long, thick, firm, juicy and green now idk what to do so I put fresh water in the bottom only high enough to touch the naked roots and my goodness those air roots have just taken off!
Congratulations u finished killing it
Orchid looking like the Mind Flayer going into that pot 😱
I thought orchids needed clear pots to allow light to the roots
They do hense why it’s dead 💀
She should have stuck that poor orchid in a glass with water at the bottom. It just may have sprouted new roots from the neck eventually.
RIP lil’ fella. 😔
So glad I found your channel. Your voice 👹 makes my day.
I’m so glad it found you too! Thanks for stopping by🥰🙏
@@growithjessie ❤️👹❤️
This video pissed off so many orchid nerds
You pulled off some of the good roots. They don’t all have to be green for orchids do some damn research
chill it’s just a plant and it’s not even yours 💀
I can smell those roots thru my screen LOL
The poor thing was already dead, but you made sure to desecrate its corpse.
Confidence for days
You could also just tie it on some driftwood, with some moss covering the roots. I've had mine since last year and mounted it to driftwood. it's pushed out 2 new leaves and 2 flower stalks, at different times. I'm also terrible and give it water from my fish tanks. I let it dry to the point the leaves get leathery before I water it again. Not all the time but, most. It gets bright indirect light most of the year but, in the beginning it gets a few hours of direct sunlight. I also don't keep my house at a steady temp. It gets cold and hot in here.
I'm sure that fish water was excellent fertilizer for it.
It has some greens, and has 2 "main roots" (ig that's what their called??) It should definitely be able to grow back! It might require more care however-
Tap roots is the name

@@magik210 both of you got it wrong
It’s not going to grow back bits crown was already dead to begin with. Then she literally butchered the few viable roots it did have and to top it off she reported it in soil. Please don’t follow these instructions.
@@sebo9872 second this, please do your research on whatever plant you get cause they all have their specific needs
I have saved 9 orchids from clearance. Once the foliage is gone I feel. Also you can get liter of plastic poke big enough holes & some spagnum moss. Don't use soil retains lots of water(: and always cut the rotten or dead roots. Good luck next time girl
Your voice is so damn PEACEFUL!
Yikes that orchid is GONE. Theres no saving that, and even if there was a slim chance, you made it 0% from repotting with regular potting spoil 😅
Is gonna die repot it plz with orchid bark
Best bet its immediately ditch the bark for expanded clay balls. Single best insurance move.
Orchids grow much better in transparent containers :) Try it!
I have 32 pots of orchids...that is dead!!! Let it go 😂
Girl you’re so rough on living (or various stages of dying) plants, hurts my little heart to see this Orchid skinned alive
You NEVER use soil and you should NEVER RIP the dead off an orchid. You should use sterilized cutter and trim the dead off. This orchid should of been place in water for a while
I understand the climate is totally diff but here in the Philippines, we never plant Orichids in soil. We only "attach/bind" them in any bark - fresh/live or dead and even with little to no care, they grow well without issues. P.S: we use loose coconut husk to wrap/bind the Orchid and our plants have been thriivng for decades
You have good finger tension to save this . I shudder to feel if I had ripped off one of the live inner roots.
Orchids are more sensitive to care for. Most stores don’t pot them right and I’ve learned after killing a few. Here are some tips: Orchids need air in their roots otherwise they drown.
Water less once a week warm water (preferably filtered), no ice cubes (cold will kill roots), if they are potted like yours with soil repot it asap in a clear orchid pot(plastic). Pots should have lots of drainage holes, use orchid bark or moss no soil. Orchids live on trees like Hoyas so bark and air for roots makes sense.
No wonder it rotted. Don't use soil. Put that baby in a pot specifically for orchids so it gets enough air circulation too
Me and my dad who grew them in coconut husks: *taking notes*
read the comments first
Omg 🤣🤣🤣 this right here is too funny! I don't know why the sheep people get me but they do🤣 and don't forget to never water it, that's how you get it to bloom foreverrrr 🤣🤣🤣 believe that one
It really should go into a wet box where the humidity is kept very high with good light on sphagnum
orchids dont grow in soil. They are air plants. Orchids also benefit from a suspended internal liner to keep them from resting in water or moisture.
That's an epiphytic type of orchid that grows on trees not a ground orchid so they don't need soil at all
Girl I love your videos but this is torture;-; I don’t even own an orchid but I’ve searched up how to care for them lol
Did you take it out of the soil and manage to bring it back to life? So curious. Thanks.
I’m almost positive you’re not supposed to ‘skin’ the roots … you are however supposed to cut off the dead ones
So you buried dead orchid lol RIP 🤷🏻♀️ i don’t think that will come back but ..!
That's dead af just bin it
You need to throw that away. You stripped the roots. The roots are smoothed by that soil. The pot has no air flow. You should change your orchid bark when you do a repot after it's had so much root rot in it. Just get another, a proper orchid pot, a bag of orchid mix, and orchid food. They aren't difficult, they're just different.
In my province all orchids are berry green because the weather there is balance it's more green when it's in dark place.but do not plant orchids in soit It can't be alive just plant it in a pot full of moss mixed with blended wood or just simply plant it in alive tree
Love the roots look a little mushy
Love between fairy and devil brought me here lol 🤣🤣🤣😭
A green root is a very good sign but I would not add potting soil to the wood chips because the green root might rot. The potting soil holds too much water. I am using Orchid baskets now.
Wow...just wow
Thing is….those “rotten” roots - were probably healthy. But you stripped them and put them in soil. ITS IN BARK FOR A REASON!!!
she clearly didn't do her research before taking care of the orchid
It reminds me of the blood vessels of the lungs with how they're shaped!
if you have green left theres a chance. spray/mist with hydrogen peroxide and water. put in fresh mulch. it's a tricky plant with root rot. it needs moisture but not too much. best of luck
That orchid is gone beyond return maybe you should notice when it was dying actually maybe there were some chance of surviving it's only will be a miracle if that plant grow something ever again
What …. If you don’t know anything about orchids, you better not do such videos. The poor thing is dead ☠️
There was zip zero life in that, what green was seen was just that of moldy slimy green roots ... but, at least she tried !! :)
Where there's life, there's hope!
No life in this poor phaleno
You pulled off some living parts… and stripped some roots that weren’t rotten. I cut the rotten roots and replant in moss and do an overnight soak in the moss.
This will help me as one of my orhids died
Please don't follow these instructions.... Missorchidgirl has a great UA-cam channel about orchids.
You need hydrogen peroxide, proper tools and orhid bard. You also need proper orhid bark and sphagnum moss...
The soil will rot it worse. Needed some hdrgen peroxide solution spray and a holed pot with bark moss or red rock. I'm interested to see it it survives
I’m sorry, but this was completely horrifying to watch
You tried, but it's time to say your peaces. That orchid was beyond salvage in the first clips. You pulled all the velamen off the roots not allowing it to absorb much water, plus a non-orchid bark potting mix is in there. It's gone.
That orchid is not coming back....you need just a little bit more live plant. The best thing is to clean it, then put it in a propagation box with some dame sphagnum moss and put in some indirect lighting.
Orchid in soil !! In a pot !!?
Ahh
Maybe you can use a coconut fibre shell and add a lil soil and just attached it to a tree branch ah that's how orchid grows ...
RIP my orchid !
It might have a chance if you soak it in water to see what greens up, cut of those flower spikes and then put it in high humidity environment but it would take months and up to two years to recover. It will continue to die planted like this. Throw it away and buy a new one.
Watch Miss Orchid Girl for a few hours.
Very unlikely that orchid will show any new growth, you can save a lot of orchids, but unfortunately not this one.
As everyone else has said: no soil ever, with most orchids: bark, seramis, sphagnum moss, even toilet tissue with plenty of drainage or a sponge is better than soil. Also a cloche (could be a plastic translucent bottle) to keep in humidity will help a dying orchid.
M.O.G. Come help DX
For orchids you do not need to put soil, it will kill them
You should grow vanilla orchids
If you remove the outer layer of the root, the root won't absorb water. All the roots are bad
Pretty sure that thing is dead and gone. Never bury a orchid - they thrive on oxygen. She just choked it with all that soil. And never re-use old medium like bark and sphagnum moss. 😢
This orchid has no suckers alive .
Completely dead
There is no way she peeled off the protective coating g 😂
