- WELCOME TO ANOTHER EPISODE OF PATTAY’S PERFORMANCE!
Today in the driveway on the back of Mandingo is the Stihl FS55R that is giving me ONE HELL OF TIME!
Lets start with the laundry list of issues…
Hard to Start at times
excess fuel comes out of the muffler (I tried adjusting carb with no luck)
when running fuel leaks out of carb
sometimes when I try to start it…runs and dies
I literally beat myself up over $12 but when I learned form this experience was PRICELESS!
Let me show you how to replace the carb, fuel lines and filter!

I'm a little older, many things where 2 stroke as a kid. The markets are different here. A good chainsaw like a Stihl is an easy sale, and a push mower is only easy if really cheap. With chainsaws people tend to use until they have problems then buy another one. Usually easy fixes. Last Stihl the guy said was junk, and ran poorly. He was running about 30 to 1 mix left over from his very old saw, so was too lean.
Thank you sharing! Do you miss the 2 stroke mowers?
@@pattayperformance I haven't used a 2 stroke mower since the late 70's. Have not thought much about it since, so guess I'm not missing it.
I love when it all comes together.
Likewise! Wish they were all this easy!
Nice to see you "expanding your horizons"! Nice video....
You know what! I need one of them fancy ZaMa Kits you got there. I can use the holder as a trophy. Hold all the carbs I replaced that actually fixed machines! 😂
Awesome fix. I have all but stopped working on 2 stroke stuff with the exception of a few long time customers.
Uncle Ed you know first and foremost how much I despise 2 Stroke. Only way to learn is to do...slowly but surely getting there. By the time I master it...electric Will take over 😂😂😂😂
You got a new subscriber just because you said "I hate two cycles"
We are all about transparentcy here.
My FS55R has given me nothing but headaches. I was given this trimmer about 3 years ago. Came close to throwing it out twice. But after having multiple arm workouts I was done!!! So I thinking I will give it one more shot. So I just ordered the kit. So we will see.
How did you make out?
I got the same, how it went??
Those fs55 are bombproof, can’t go wrong with a Chinese carb, nice one Jason 👌
Thank you! Hope the season is treating you well! Mrs and I are glad to see you pop back up!
Very true, ive had my fs55r for Clos to 15 years and the only work I've do e to it is a new carb and taking off the Spark arrest.
Wow a 2 stroke. Good for you.
The more my wife watches you guys...the more grief I get! Did you see Bob’s Video? We gotta get him back!
The most overlooked maintenance item on these is the spark arretpor.
Right On...I got jammed up on a machine till I found out what a Spark Arrestor is and what it does.
Hey I've had good luck with the China after market carburetors also , I've had to send one back out of ten that wouldn't run . Another thing my on/off switch has wore off the stamping , so sometimes I can't tell what's on and off . But my Stihl weed eater is 20 years old too , if that's the only problem - there isn't one . 🤣😂 Good Job ....😉
#metoo Bc I avoid this stuff like the plague. These switches get me all the time. MAYBE that’s our claim to fame. Design a switch that says ON AND OFF. Keep simple...not this Egyptian Hieroglyphics that is on there now! 🇺🇸🤙🏻🦅🔧. I’m glad your Stihl is up and running...my lack patience and experience drove me to go the battery powered route!
Pattay's Performance Battery powered lawn equipment is the future .
I installed an aftermarket carburetor, fuel tank and lines on KM55r. It ran great then 3 months later I went to use it and the fuel lines had rotted off. Now this I am replacing the carburetor again this time with OEM. No more aftermarket for me. I want it to run I don`t want to be fixing it every time I want to knock down weeds. I did an aftermarket carburetor on my lawn tractor and it is still working a year later.
People say hit and miss…I have an aftermarket carb on my Husky BFS360 for 3 years now no issues. Never changes my fuel lines. Fuel lines on Stihl are different then most just bc STIHL
Nice smart fix and flip Item. The guy around the corner from you says, we flippers don't have to fix anything. Unlike him. He claims to be a flipper now 🤣... he just tinkers with stuff. He fixed a wheel, then parks it behind the garage. Gets it out next week fixed a bolt. 😆 🤣 😂
You brought up an EXCELLENT POINT, that I wanted to make a video about! Between Casey and You as well as pre-existing issues before your comments were made kinda triggered me. She still says it’s a big fat NO! In a nut shell, the small engine community is small. Let’s play nice and get along. Keep doing what your doing! PPPSSSHHHH
I buy on Amazon when I can because of 1-2 day prime shipping since I go through alot of these carbs and they are usually the same amount of money
I like earning ebay bucks! Thanks for your help! Saved me a big headache! See you later on this week!
Good job jason
Thank you! This weedwacker kinda had me stumped! Greatful my friend stopped by to help me out! #smallenginecommunity
Choke down when cold start or hot ?
Choke in the closed position on cold starts. Once you got it to running temp you should be able to start it with choke wide open!
Great repair Jason. I dont like 2 strokes because i cant make any money flipping them. It does help if its a Stihl or Echo! Plus i can't put the Jason restyle on them like mowers. LOL Roger👍🇺🇸 #seafoam
😂😂😂. It’s very rare I will touch up a 2 stroke machine. Yes you are correct those names make it easy to sell! Aftermarket carbs keep em reasonable to sell. If it needs more than a carb...I’m fi$$$$$h out of water. There goes the profit and my hair 😂
Better than rebuilding a carb thats for sure
I would NEVER! 🔧🤙🏻🦅🇺🇸
Dude for real are you really working of the back of your truck , I swear we must be related ? I miss my old Dodge it was just the right height ! What can I say 🤷
Mandingo is the perfect height! I’m a driveway damsel. So I just gotta make do what I have! When I do get a garage of my dreams it will make more appreciative! You will most likely see a grown man cry!
Good job. Want some heels for it it.
Tomorrow is a week to the day with out em 😂😧
You feel like a Doctor .. Dr Feelgood taken, Lawn Doctor is taken perhaps in the summer we call you Mower Doctor and in the winter Blower Doctor.? just a suggestion.. Doctor Jason!. successful open carburetor surgery.. another nice repair..😷🤣
I got a funny story to tell in relation to your comment LOL
So why was you Stihl spitting fuel out of the exhaust. I have two Carbs and one is brand new and they are both spitting fuel out the muffler.
Too much fuel turn the High Side jet down…or spark arrestor isn’t catching it all bc it’s MIA 🤣
Can't because it has the plastic limiter cap on it which means it should be close to set so I don't think thats it. Both carbs do the same thing?
@@rays9719 remove those crappy California caps
@@pattayperformance So you are telling me that the hi rev screw is within a 1/4 of a turn from its factory setting and that is what is causing the fuel oil mix to shoot out of the exhaust?
@@rays9719 maybe
Why does everyone hate 2 stroke here haha?
Where do you want to start LOL?
@@pattayperformance anywhere haha. I’ve never used one as the lawnmower isn’t two stroke but what are the alternatives? There aren’t many 4 stroke trimmers in the UK to choose from. And cordless cost just as much as Stihl yet have short run times and battery degradation is an issue for longevity
Oh No not 2 stroke! Gives me a stroke every time!
When you recover from you stroke wake up with a achy back from all that pulling 😂
@@pattayperformance Hehe yeps💪🏽
We should start a club. Cos I hate those things. Designed with failure in mind. And that's why electric weed eaters will kill the two stroke. Until people realise the battery is the new two stroke
I hate 2 cycle.
Amen!
i is igntion o is off
I feel like I need this tattoo as these are rare here on the island. LOL
That kit is rubbish.. after a year the green fuel line was split and the carb doesn't deliver fuel!
Fuel line is cheap! Thanks for the tip
