Russ is right, it's not blackball because a lot of these artists have superficial fans. If someone is really a fan it's not hard to make your own playlist and search for what you like. People are way to entitled to think that every platform should shoove artist in people's face.
If i walk into a Supermarket and my favorite food was moved from Aisle 1 where it used to be with the rest of its kind to Aisle 7, My reaction would be "Oh so this is where i will find it from now on" as opposed to if the Supermarket stop carrying it altogether. The bottom line is as long as a place carries your stuff you are NOT BAN / Blackballed.

The thing is that people that aren’t independent depend on these playlists and aren’t independent for this reason. If an artist drops an album and it isn’t on these playlists they’re sales are gonna plummet a lot. When an artist is independent it’s on them to do their best to sell their music even if they’re not in playlists which is obviously a lot more difficult but Russ has managed to do it. I think a better example to yours is if supermarkets just stopped selling candy/sodas at the register the sales would drop a lot, there’s snack and beverages aisles but there’s a reason why they also have them at the register.

For starters, the only people who would be losing out on sale are the Supermarkets. Candy and sodas sales will never drop due to the fact you can get them at a bazillion outlets like at the Soda/ candy machines right outside those same Supermarkets. The same applies to any streaming and Digital platforms.

You’re acting as if these playlist don’t help a ton with your example. When you go to a supermarket you will most likely get something else that isn’t on your list. Tons of music drops every weak the average person isn’t gonna keep up with every single artist that they listen to.

Spotify prides itself in being very interactive, the more you interact with the app, the more it learns what you like and presents that to you.

Russ is right. The reality is playlisting is a privilege that Spotify can take away whenever they want. And Russ is saying that depending on a company IN THE FIRST PLACE is the issue. It's not about "right or wrong", it's reality.

Like he said The prerequisite to getting signed before this internet era was to be able to prove that you had a real fan base that wanted to listen to you AND THEN get the deal. The problem is the majority of these guys aren’t that talented and haven’t really earned the position they’re in and the machine force feeds it to the masses but they aren’t actually retaining any fans. Focusing on garnering a chore fan base is the only thing an up and coming artist should be focused on. The algorithm favors ak but when it doesn’t, AKS core fan base rides with him because he earned their loyalty. True art speaks for itself imo and a lot of this shit out here is force fed microwave music. These artists are being conditioned to get streams, do festivals and they think listeners are fans. They have 20k - 30k(if that) fan bases and that hurts their souls, so something has to be at fault. I agree with a Russ. For an example. I'm a huge Lil Wayne fan. Trust me I know exactly when and what to do when Wayne drops an album. I wouldn't need to be reminded or see it on a banner or front page. I check Wayne updates everyday.
However the other artists I listen ti that I dont really care for like Tory. I dont even bother going to his IG page so yeah I would never know if he drops with that promo

listen: what we’re not talking about is that fact that you ARE entitled to promo from streaming services if you’re signed to a major label or publisher. This is because they have EQUITY in the streaming platforms. If you signed away your intelectual property to a major under the pretext that you would get certain push and get in certain buildings, then it’s inconceivable that the majors would let the streaming services slide on that kind of selectivity. If you’re independent then Russ is TOTALLY right tho!!!

I subbed to certain pages on youtube...I would get updates to when they post. I stopped getting them and forgot about the page. Yes I could look them up.
