Beyonce wanted this album not to only be about her. Formation is at the end because it's also about Black liberation and generational trauma. Most songs in the album touch on both subjects, and both subjects need an ending. All Night is to wrap up the love history, Formation is to wrap up the bigger theme.
She didn’t have horror as inspiration. She tapped into African American and African Traditional Religion symbols to signify community and healing of shared trauma within sisterhood and matriarchy like infidelity and adultery.
@14:29 as far as i understand it the black masking Indians in New Orleans pay tribute to the native americans that help them escape slavery. I think that scene represented taking up space, circling the table that only the plantation owners family would be sat at. Also to me the horror element in this film is the curse of infidelity in her bloodline being broken!
Thank you so much for your Beyoncé reactions! She is a once-in-a-lifetime artist and every millisecond of her work has so much intention, history, and purpose. There's an entire album breaking down this film shot-for-shot and line-by-line, it's called Dissect! Listening to it truly made me understand the genius behind this project. The episode on Love Drought is my favorite- the video is inspired by Igbo Landing, a site in Georgia where imported enslaved people in the 1800s landed and ended their lives by fleeing to the water instead of being forced into slavery in the US. Also, the men pictured in the Forward video are, for the most part, men and boys who were killed by police in the US (with some of the pictures being held by their family members). The whole project connects the shared and generational trauma of slavery to historical and continued infidelity among black couples in the US- part of her theory is that black men weren't taught to love themselves and it has continued the trauma.
6:01 the imaginary is suppose to represent the Igbo Landing. Igbo people captured during slavery drowned themselves in a creek rather than be forced into slavery in the US
🔥🔥🔥 React to her performance of "All night" live at tidal. You'll love it. And also react to her performance at the 2016 vmas, it's the best vma performance ever.
Loved this reaction! React to the gift album and behind the scenes of the gift black is king documentary. Gives you a back story how the gift was created and black is king❤
