  • Zorn helped jump start the expansion Seahawks in 1976, earning team MVP. Along with a Steve Largent, he helped get Seattle on the NFL map. He was known for his eccentric personality, elusiveness on the field, and a stealthy left handed delivery of the football. He was the franchise QB until giving way to Dave Krieg in 1983.

The Raiders lead by the Snake were my intro to NFL in mid/late 70s but I soon became big Seahawk fan. They were a really exciting team to watch in late 70s, lead by Zorn. Great memories!

I used to sit on the field in the Seahawks band back in the late 70s. (Kenny G also played in that band before he became famous.) So much fun watching Zorn and Largent. And that's when "the wave" started in the crowd... started by a beer selling guy at seahawks stadium.

I was never much of a Seahawks fan, but Zorn to Largent was one of the coolest combos going in the NFL back then.

Fun quarterback. Absolutely a genius at faking handoffs, or handing off delayed draw, with Sims, Smith, or Hunter.
    Truly great footballer.
    One of the greatest !

He was a quirky gamer. Was kind of a nerd who liked to ball. Always appreciated his playmaking ability!

Jim freakin' Zorn...Man, that just sounds like a guy that was born to be a lefty quarterback in the NFL. C'mon, am I right or am I wrong

He was really fun to watch....it started to go bad after his ankle/leg injury, really limited his mobility and speed. Even so, I loved the Hawks in those days. The 1984 team was special.

Jim Zorn reminds me of a left handed Fran Tarkenton

Would have been an ideal replacement for Staubach in Dallas, but I don't think Landry wanted another Roger or Fran type running his offense

I didn't get into football until my Redskins won a Superbowl when I was 9 years old. How DARE you educate me on how good the guy before Dave Krieg was?! Neither are ANY joke. Always rooted for the Seahawks against the Raiders. Especially after they kicked our ass in Super Bowl XVIII! Not such a Seahawks fan since the 2000s though... especially since they have switched to my conference with Pete Carroll. .. Nothing wrong with them. Just always BEAT Redskins teams that squeaked into the playoffs ("Back in the day"... for you younger folks... I'm TOO middle-aged at 47 years old to make a UNIVERSAL age-defing statement like that!)

Thanks for the backstory! Sounds like you have some roots in the game. Krieg & Zorn were both underdogs! 🐶

@@hdqb2813 Absolutely perfect word to pick, "underdog." Almost! But Gibbs took a 0/5 team to an 8/8 record to finish the 1981 season and then won the Super Bowl next year, ONLY TO get their ass kicked in Super Bowl 18 following THAT year. Not SUCH underdogs by that point NEVERTHELESS by then.
This Redskins fan, me, loves the Seahawks guys from the 80s. I had a friend move to Seattle via of the military requirements of one of his parents. While I was living comfortably 15 miles outta DC THEN. 1983 10-year old me in AZ speaking now. HTTR FOR LIFE!

@@hdqb2813 Though the Redskins are finally on the rise, Seattle has always been a problem for them since the Seahawks joined the NFC. But they've been a problem for other teams too, haha

I can't blame Jim Zorn for the players he couldn't get as a coach in his coaching days there. He had a horrible owner and a non-gm running things at that time. But was always curious about the player he was because it was Dave Krieg days when I finally started rooting for the Seahawks as my AFC even though I was a total Redskins fan in the 1980s. Thank you for the video because it's just before my time and I always wondered how that went exactly but never took the time to look at a piece on it

@@AZDC99 Thanks for the backstory! Rivera is a no-nonsense coach, and he has Washington playing tough. Just have to get the QB situation figured out.

Yes, this dude, Jim Zorn could really f****** play. Such a great quarterback. And we do have another left-handed quarterback rookie on the roster today. Who kind of resembles Zorn a little bit?
