    PS Loved the final movement, when Elgar recapitulates the cello opening from the first movement (with minor changes) and Stefano follows the B7/D# chord by going up the G string, and then across to the octave C on the C string. Never seen that in a concert performance before. It worked beautifully.

    This is really close to Jacqueline, extraordinary hardwork,u just need a little bit,just a little bit more and i think you can achieve it,more maturity,musicality in the interpretation of this wonderful piece

    • @brhbrh6326
      @brhbrh6326 Рік тому +2

      This is Elgar, and Stefano, as it should be. A most musical performance, and to be honest the orchestra neither has the calibre of players Jacqueline got to play with, nor their maturity.

      Yes. No one comes up to that standard. No one has to this day. Sol Gabetta, nearly, but not quite.

      @SamAtBeaconPay Рік тому +6

      Well, of course! It goes without saying... Nobody can possibly come close to du Pre. But we also cannot retire the Elgar. So enjoy an angle on it, if not as great as the one and only we all will cherish as long as any one of us is alive to do so.

    The last movement is too difficult for him because he doesn’t understand the meaning of rubato. Also it’s very out of tune. Sounds like a conservatory student.

    • @brhbrh6326
      @brhbrh6326 Рік тому +4

      Doesn't understand the meaning of rubato? Seriously? I enjoyed his phrasing, especially in the last two movements when I felt Mr Bruno was a little more relaxed and less rushed. His spiccato was nice and clear, and well contrasted by his long, legato bow strokes that had great sustain right out to the tip. This was, by no means very out of tune. What I did notice-and very much liked-was that this was not another du Pré-style sempre ma troppo molto vibrato performance. Stefano had really nice touches of still/senza vibrato, and the pitch is so much more exposed thus.
      Years ago I attended a Ms. du Pré masterclass in Scotland. I humbly begged to differ with her on the intensity and depth (pitch range) of the vibrato she wished the cellist to employ when playing Kol Nidre. If Stefano were a student in my conservatory days, then he would be a post-grad, and sweep up most of the string prizes! YMMV :)
