I remember seeing a Comet at the dragstrips back in the day, and they came with leaf springs. Watching that thing hop up and down, going down the strip had everyone falling over laughing.
This Comet belongs on a racetrack so people could see what a real A/FX car from back in the day goes like .....did I mention like a few others has how Badass this car is!
Had a 64 2 door with the 170 and 3 on the tree, always felt a bit of super stock history when hitting 2nd gear. also might add dont forget the 100,000 miles at over 100 mph record setting 64's best 150 $ i ever spent buying that Merc.
Awesome thanks brother for the video that's when car's were pieces of art and so, simple, cheap too. I'm old school Ford, Mercury fan till death. I've been a bodyman and mechanic for 45 year's and thing's I've seen lately on Ford's, design not so much a fan anymore.
James Steele If you have ever driven one your tune may change. These old carbureted super-stock era cars like Max Wedges, 421 Catalinas, Z16 427 Impalas are great for the strip and having fun with but are terrible to live with! A modern Hellcat, Redeye, Z06 or ZL1 Camaro are OBSCENE cars that have enormous upgrade potential. Crazy fun.
Nice video, but one correction. The 1964 Comet (actually, all '60-'65 Mercury Comets) used the Ford Falcon chassis, not the Fairlane chassis. The '62 & '63 Mercury Meteors shared the Fairlane chassis, as did the '66 and later Comets. And in response to Fairlane359, all dual-quad 427's in Ford production cars were advertised as having 425 HP, including 1964 through 1968 model years with side-oiler blocks. Race-prepped versions put out more than that, of course, but the performance of factory-stock engines in mid-60's road tests showed 0-60 results ranging from 6.7 to 7.0 seconds. That doesn't even reflect an honest 425 HP.
The side oiler block came in with the 1965 Medium Riser engine. The 1964 High Riser engine still used the center oiler block of the 1963/64 427 low riser engine line.
Your facts are all wrong. A/FX Comets were built by Dearborn Steel Tubing using Caliente Comets. This example is over restored, the race cars did not have good body gaps, especially the hood, they never fit well. The fiberglass was made by Plaza Glas Toronto Canada.
Why is it that when ur talking about Fords u only mention the factory advertized hp and u dont mention that they have much more hp then what the factory says but when it comes to chevys, u talk about actual hp and how its more than the factory rating for instance this 427 super maurauder u say 425 hp but u should be saying its more like 500-600 hp.
What a cool looking and performing brute of a muscle car. It is too bad Mercury is gone, but this Comet came from their glory days.
This guy is THE BEST on doing shows on muscle cars..
The Brothers may have the best collection of muscle too
That is a gorgeous piece of Mercury drag racing history! Also it will still blow the doors off a new Corvette🤠
Love that tear drop hood
Now THAT'S what I'm talkin' about!! Comet's are just badass....
Great show, wicked history.

These were the Hemi Mopar killers!
Only in the buyers dreams...
The 427 Fairlane Thinderbolt was the dominant car in 1964 NHRA super stock.
Cool car love to drive it
Alpine White with a Carmine Red interior. I'm still kicking myself for selling my '64 Cyclone in 1991.
I'd be sqalin.
Back when cars actually looked good .
Great car both appearances and performance. How about the dodge “ Color Me Gone’ ? One of the hottest cars to hit the 1/4 mile
Caliente was just a trim package. I had one with a 260 2 barrel.
Awesome!
Man the cars have changed for the worst.
I wouldnt want a Hellcat over a old school car

My uncle had a comet, but it wasn't the brute this whip is. I wanted it, but he said no, you'll get kilt in it !
They were closer to 500 hp. You had to have racer connections to get one of these cars.
what stars are on the front wheels?
awesome car would like a video on 72-79 ford falcons? I know its not American but its still muscle
Australian Ford Falcons with their Cleveland powered engines are the shizznit!
do you have a 55 nomad available for the show it's the only car I ever wanted that I never got everything else I had
Sounds like it was popping, point bounce, ? Valve springs weak ?
Hard on!!!
my birthday is in 2 weeks !!!!!!!
gonna buy me a Mercury and cruise up and down the road
Just FUCKIN insane.
Hey look comet used the light holes for induction back in 64. I wonder if dodge borrowed that idea or they came up with it by accident!
I'd sell my soul to the devil for this car ,......
Sox and Martin campaigner ,
