That feeling of needing to watch the next one doesn't stop for a while
Yeah, along about the last episode of Season 6.
But we probably shouldn't tell her about the Telltale Series game that features Camina Drummer, though.... 🤔
😁
“Good and bad, don’t get distracted by that. It’ll just confuse you”
Such a potent line
I like that you are addicted to the show, and don't want to wait. I remember the feeling well.
So glad you're enjoying the ride!! You can wear any Expanse shirt you like! As Dawes said " Good and bad, don't let that confuse you. " We're just happy you're reacting to our beloved show!
I'm so glad you are engaged in this show. The best show out there!
I remember binge watching the first two seasons. This show just gets better and better.
8:25 Anderson Dawes is an old school belter, with neck scars he received from the the cheap space suits. The younger generation of belter / OPA are having the prominent neck tattoos instead.
I'd also stress - look at the pattern of the scar and the tattoo designs. Pretty cool detail.
If you think you are hooked now, just you wait! Hope you are doing well
1:22 You're never dumb, you just have a unique soul
If she was REALLY dumb she wouldnt even realize shes dumb... so shes not dumb haha
@@lolmao500True, Mary is self aware. She just needs to play games that offer trivia and critical thinking
The Expanse shirt I got is a Pur & Kleen Water Company tshirt.
Remember the Cant.
Me too.
I got 5 of them lol
Great reaction. Just remember Mary, genuine empathy is the key attribute of a UA-cam reactor. Never loose it!
Oh my I can see this show has its claws in you deep! Enjoy it. It never stops. From here to the end it just gets more intense and more gripping. An absolute masterpiece as you are discovering.
Her Patreon has fantastic suggestions 😁👍
That scar on Dawes' neck that you noticed is what other belters (like Naomi and Diogo) are emulating with their neck tattoos. The OG belters like Dawes have burn scars on their necks from early, faulty spacesuits and the younger OPA get inked to copy that.
A Rocinante shirt is the way.
Amos was hoping the technique that removed Cortazar's empathy could be reversed in a way that would restore his own empathy. Cortazar said that Amos wanted to be a "real boy" again. Remember Naomi characterized Amos to Miller as "Pinocchio," the wooden puppet who wanted to be a real boy.
The thing is, Dawes has a point. The Inners in general and Earthers in particular _do_ see everything as their possession. Earthers _do_ see the Belters as nothing better than slaves and lab animals.
Some bad captioning happened. Dawes said, "You remind me of someone, just missing the _hat."_
"Pampa" literally means "uncle," but it can also be used pejoratively as "old man."
You noticed a hole that I don't think anyone else had noted (at least not out loud). Why was Naomi dressed and ready to take off when Holden had left her asleep? Yes, she awoke as he left, but why would she get up and get dressed?
Lots of the auto-generated captioning is bad. Another one in this episode was Naomi saying "two big-noise Earthers" and the captions saying "big, nice Earthers".
@@MattNolanCustom That, too.
on your 2 versions of the Ganimede's incident, remember that Mao said in his last episode that he needed a new sponsor
I think you’ve been getting it backwards with Amos. Amos is concerned about empathy because he feels like he doesn’t have any… and he wants to know if it’s possible to get it back. That’s why he was asking Cortizar if his procedure could be reversed.
"Just one more episode..."
We all know that voice in our heads🤣
15:52 - The Expanse fandom is one of the best. And one of the great things about the Expanse is how the three major factions, Earth, Mars, and the Belt, are all really well realized. Most people do tend to sympathize more with the Belt, but I don't think you're going to experience any issues by "picking a side." Or not picking a side, if you want to get multiple t-shirts.
I do think that the blood snowflakes in the beginning of the episode is actually something that could happen in those circumstances. At least it is not far fetched. The Expanse is all about using the coolness of science to make the show even better, and this is one of those little details that make me love it so much.
Dawes is such an strong and interesting character! Love the reactions and I am glad to hear that the Expanse fever infected you. ❤
Imagine what it was like for those of us watching as it aired. Having to wait days for the next episode. Or months between seasons.
Snowflakes with that structure need a freezing, moderately humid environment. It's highly unlikely that a blood version would form in open vacuum. It's a nice image though -- a thing of macabre beauty amidst the wreckage of a vast surface outpost on a frozen moon -- and the message "the cost and effects of violence in space" comes across effectively.
I do believe that astronomers, about 4 years ago, extrapolated from multiple observations that there is detectable water vapor in Ganymede's atmosphere. Not all that impossible, considering a massive percentage of the surface is ice.
@@Simyonovich Not impossible, but highly unlikely. Ganymede's atmosphere is four orders of magnitude thinner than Mars' -- roughly similar to that of Earth's up at ISS' orbit.
Which imo would made a fairly decent experiment, checking to see if it's possible to create actual snowflakes out of outgassing liquid/gaseous H2O up in Earth's exosphere.
@@alcor4670 heck yeah, that would be pretty neat
Every Expanse shirt is cool. I got an MCRN shirt. I love how dedicated the martians are to the goal of a blue mars.
Also I definitely think blood snowflakes would happen. It's mostly water, and snowflakes are just a natural way for ice crystals to form.
Bobbie is going to Earth! I hope she meets some interesting people!
The show just keeps hitting new highs. I am still blown away by the visionary story and quality of execution across the board that they achieved. If you had not guessed, it's my favourite video series of all time. So you're not alone in loving it!
As for Gunnery Sergeant Roberta Draper, she is a Gunnery Sergeant. That's a military position. Bobbie is short for her full first name and just to make it more confusing she is often called Draper 😆
As for shirts. You can buy anyone you like. Expanse fans enjoy all the factions and it's fine to choose any or ALL.
Myself? I'm a big ship guy. So I have one showing the Rocinate and its specs. Also, have one for the Razorback. You haven't really seen that ship yet, but you will😊
Luv the way you opened with "Mary is addicted" 😂 The addiction only gets worse. There are going to be times when you think I have to sleep 😴 Then you'll reason with yourself that ...I can sleep when I'm dead.
If The Expanse were a drug, it would be a schedule 1. That's a U.S. thing I think, but schedule 1 are the most addictive, like heroin....cocaine....and REALLY good Sci Fi shows 🤣
I agree with other commentors, wear whichever faction shirt you like. Every faction has its own good points and shortcomings, no one will get mad if you declare allegiance to any of them, lol.
Glad to hear the addiction has happened.... Only issue is you'll not be able to stop now, as you see the show is a master when it comes cliffhangers, and season 2 and 3 are non-stop Master class quality
Someone's definitely hooked!
Bobbie is going to Earth, but not in the way she imagined.
26:45 Audio cut out, np 👍 26:55 Came back on
Never thought I'd be giving fashion advice - but there's a Beratnas Gas tee that strikes me appropriate - identifies you as a member of the crew of The Roci.
Imagine wait a week between episodes, then half a year between seasons. It was rough when this was new.
and when it became homeless? OMG
"Bobbie" is a nickname for "Roberta". (And "Bobby" for "Robert".) 17:15
Actually a dome splitting open in vacuum might cause snowflakes. There's moisture in the air especially since this is a food center for the outer planet. Moist air being blown into cold vacuum would probably result in the water condensing into ice crystals. Not a lot of course, but maybe enough for the odd snowflake that would really stand out in such an alien enviroment.
That was my exact thought. Some people are saying snowflakes couldn't happen without moisture. Okay, but what about a giant agriculture dome opening up. That should cause moisture. 🤔
When it comes to picking a side with clothing i too went with Mars. They have the best design and i admire their discipline and dedication to a common goal. But there are options that are more neutral.
Also i thought your observation that love and empathy are not the same thing was both correct and very insightful. Love your reactions :)
I've got an MCRN tee and sweatshirt, but also an OPA sweatshirt.
4:05 I think she shifted after Eros caused the deaths of 100k Belters, for a science experiment
my favorite scene maybe of the season is the political forum scene. how many shows would take the time on something so dialogue heavy? The scene evokes an old Roman Forum debate circa 200b.c. , with Dawes draping his coat over his arm like the folds of a toga. love it.
15:43 I think, for her, that _is_ resting
I like to read before bed. One of the best things, and worse things I did was start reading The Expanse books. Same thing - one more chapter, it reaches out, one more chapter... 2AM.
Yeah, about the only thing worse is playing a Civilization game.
"Just *one more turn* ."
I anticipate persistent sleep deprivation starting here in a couple of weeks. 😵💫
Amos has no empathy, that's his problem. He wants to understand how you can take it away with a simple procedure why can't he get it back. He wants to be a real boy.
Amos wanted to take care of the young girl on Eros. Amos was clearly troubled by the kid defending his mother in the refugee line. He doesn't have no empathy. He has some kind of very under-practiced empathy that he doesn't understand.
Mary "The Expanse" fiend....😂
How's your stomach bug? Or was it morning sickness? Hope you're doing better 🌹🌹
I wish other reactors were as pro-active as you, I love watching these clips of yours
Amos doesn't have empathy, or it's extremely limited. Look at how he reacts to situations. He is very cold and calculating in high stress environments and isn't impeded by the human cost of things.
Think back on the interrogation of Cortazar, the question that Amos asked: "Is there any way to reverse it?"
Amos is likely a psychopath from what we've seen, but because he does form a familial relationship with his crew, it might just be sociopathy.
It's neither.
The fact that he can distinguish people as falling into three different categories (Protect, follow, fight) means he's absolutely *not* a sociopath.
Sociopath's cannot make such distinctions -- to them, other people aren't really "real."
Emotionally damaged, though? Absolutely.
But sociopathy is a severe disability and it would render Amos wholly unable to make even the distinctions he does.
Nor would a sociopathic Amos wish to make himself "better" or seek help from those he considers "good" people -- which he absolutely does. 🤷♂
The reaction to the little boy yelling at him smells of PTSD and likely C-PTSD is the diagnosis I’d speculate.
Borderline Personality Disorder is a differential diagnosis for C-PTSD but Amos doesn’t have outbursts and maintains stable relationships so that isn’t likely.
He doesn’t have the grandiose self image typically seen in psychopathy or the tendency towards deceit or recklessness typical to sociopathy, those are highly unlikely.
10:00, Earth is the birthplace of the whole human race. Every one of us comes from here. The elements of this planet make up the atoms of our very bodies.
But when someone isn't born on Earth and nobody in their family came from here for 5-6 generations, what does Earth look like then? It's just another place, just another planet. This Earth decentered perspective is one that this show constantly puts on display. It's something you don't really see in most science fiction shows.
I'm pretty sure the blood snowflake thing is totally real, and if not it's not as absurd as you implied
Water when it forms crystals pushes out any contamination, it’s the principle behind freeze distillation, so a solid crystal of ice is pure water. Snowflakes have space around the crystals though so… maybe?
@@Justanotherconsumer poetic license. Good luck making blood snowflakes IRL
Dawes is a good talker but he tried and failed with so many people before he got someone, Diogo, who gave him the info he needed
*Dawes :)
"Just missing the HAT", not "heart".
i miss your 'hello-hello' at the start. can we have it back?
Pick a Rocinante shirt, you'll be fine.
Captain Martens is no relation.
To be honest, I feel like you have a certain tendency to oversimplify and lump people into groups, then make questionable assumptions about what they're trying to do.
We all do that. That's human nature.
You're supposed to fall for the Belters, but keep in mind they are the worst people in the story. Yes, even Naomi The Norn has blood on her hands from her past. Lots of blood.
This is a gross oversimplification and failure to get the point. Lots of villains on all sides, also people swept up in bad people's orbit and also good people. Holden is arguably unrealistically 'good' yet is still deeply flawed. The bad characters usually think they are doing good things. In the end, no faction in this show is perfect. It is why the story is compelling.
Erm, nooooo.
They're the most oppressed and desperate, which means they experience persistent screaming frustration on a *daily* basis.
People that frustrated and desperate tend to engage in extreme behaviors of all sorts -- including extremist political acts and support for populist demagogues who provide emotional validation for their frustration.
Give people real hope for a better future and a way to create that for themselves and extremist behaviors of all sorts disappear, because people have better things to do and don't feel nearly so frustrated with their situations.
dim take, sorry
Loving your reactions. I tend to side more with Noami's pragmatic view of the world over Holden's naive idealism although the two balance each other to a degree. I mean of course it sounds very nice and inoffensive to talk about peace and we're all on the same side etc, but if you don't really understand the oppressed side and continue to dictate rather than listen to them it's always going to feel tone deaf. And you can see in different scenes where the two are at a real disconnect.
They're both in the right and they're both in the wrong so it'll be interesting how this advances.
True, that.
Definitely write Bobbie Drapers Name down, and underline it .
Now this episode is really far from the book
I hate episodes 😢
