I always forget to note, much of this property hasn't been mowed in at least 13 years, so whatever incidental plants you see growing in the grassy areas, that's how much rampancy the site has. A lot of it can barely support weeds, and most of the weeds don't get over knee high in a normal growing season.

Do you have a recommendation for fruit trees that do no require spraying?

Fruit trees that usually make good fruit w/o spraying (at least here in the upper midwest): Pawpaw, Persimmon, Juneberry (Amelanchier sp.), Peaches (though the trees don't tend to live long), Goumi, cane fruit, Asian Pears, currants and gooseberries, Elderberry, aronia, Haskaps, Nannyberry, Autumn Olive (ripe now), Seabuckthorn and Buffaloberry (if they will grow at your site, mine mostly have died). You may also get lucky with disease-resistant apples, some grapes, bush cherries, plums, etc. You won't necessarily get market-quality fruit on all of these, but good enough for home eating, usually.

@@pjchmiel Thanks, that is quite a list. I am on a city lot in South Haven, so very sandy soil. I have had good luck with concord grapes, red currants and raspberries. Kousa is doing well but the fruit is mostly husk. My peaches are producing fruit that is badly scarred and full of grubs. Trying out blueberries and plums. My garden is mostly ornamentals and I don't want to impact pollinating insects.
