It's not about political correctness. The difference is where the term focuses. Housing someone is an action, and "unhoused" means that someone has not been housed. Having a home is a basic right that should be guaranteed to everyone, and a failure to do so is a failure of society.
They're not just doing it "now" this cycle of speech has been going on for centuries, just as it's happening now it has happened forever. Don't worry about it, it's a normal and natural thing to occur.
With diagnosis, people don't want to be labeled their diagnosis. This concept has been around for decades and it's the people that have been diagnosed pushing for it. They don't want to be labeled a diabetic, a Sickler, an alcoholic. In my area when I ask people where they live, if they don't have a home they say homeless.
