@@DarkspiderDavid91 hey man just found your channel it's my favorite collecting channel. What sub reddits would you recommend for collecting and toys???
I feel Mcfarlane figures move well enough. Yes, they can use some adjustments with a little better articulation, but we are also getting mostly new sculpts with every figure. Marvel legends gets boring after you get a handful of figures that all look alike with the same body mold. Legends figures also don't all articulate the best and have a lot of gummy figures that can't stand. I enjoy Marvel and DC the same but enjoy collecting Mcfarlane a lot more these days. Legends seems to be greedy skyrocketing their prices with no added value.
thats exactly my feelings. i do wish mcfarlane figures moved a bit more, but comparing how they were in 2020 to now, theyve made great improvements to it, so we could get even better articulation in the future. i used to collect a ton of marvel legends but after the mighty price hikes and the copious amount of reuse, ive really taken a step back and only gotten ones i actually want. meanwhile dc multiverse has had me hooked recently. the mostly all unique sculpts, a wider range of characters now, and the more value for what you pay for is just so much more appealing. both lines are due for major improvements, but id say dc multiverse slightly edges out marvel legends for me.
I think Marvel legends is better for now, cause some mcfarlane figures feels like the one who made the figure is lazy to articulate it and they are not easy to pose. The design is really good from other marvel legends figures but for now they need to articulate it better like they did with dc icons but a different body mold.
Something Todd started doing just like Hasbro does it is just repaint a naked body, which was unexpected and disappointing like the older Superman and the Nightwing with yellow pattern in his chest.
I agree 200% about the capes in the plastic slit in the packaging. Every time I chose to open a McFarlane figure that has a cape I’m always worried it’s gunna break or somthing and I have to perform surgery on the plastic like I’m trying to remove a limb from some mangled car wreckage
Mcfarlane Toys Hands down. I feel that the: price and quality of most Mcfarlane toys are better but I still wish that Mcfarlane toys would have more paint apps and washes like we used to get in the old school Mcfarlane toys Spawn days. I don't care about articulations as much as I like the way the figures look just standing on a shelf
For me in the end it comes down to McFarlane, I was such a hasbro fan, I collected pretty much every 6in line in the year 2020 and 2021, however as time went on and prices went up, coupled with the windowless boxes, and the lacking of needed accessories at the $25.99 price In the end McFarlane might not make the *best* toys on the market, but he makes *really good* toys at an affordable price, and what more can a man child like myself ask for lol
my problem is that the McFarlane line has been running for 3 years now? and we still do not have a definitive comic Justice League. There is legit 80 different variations of Batman, and we still have yet to get a classic Aquaman or Wonder Woman. He runs a DC line that is almost entirely Batman.
the comparison really comes down to would you like your figure to move more but it uses the same model most of the time or would you like a figure that doesn’t move to much but is extremely detailed
I'm not saying you should, but you could easily modify McFarlane figures to move just as much if not more. As the figures use a double ballpeg in the torso you can trim plastic away to make it go lower. It's annoying cause all the right articulation pts are there, just not implemented right.
That's a garbage comparison. 5 minutes of customizing give every McFarlane figure better articulation than every marvel figure. Being so customizable means actually interacting with your figures. McFarlane is better in every way except body proportions.
@@jasonmckillip5936 I think body proportions are better personally. They are beefier and more in line with comic book scaling, being around 7 heads tall... Marvel Legends are very undersized for characters that are supposed to be larger than life.
@@ReeceHoward06 nah, comic characters are ripped. McFarlane figures are only beefy in the torso, a lot of legs are to long , arms to skinny for how thick the torso is. Arms to short. A recent figure that's very egregious is the Arkham Catwoman legs way to long, of course it's excused cause of the greatest action figure butt of all time
Excellent analysis, sir. It's obvious alot of thought went into it...and as someone who chills out to watching figure related videos, I definitely thought it was well done. Mcfarlane is definitely a polarizing dude but it's hard to deny how often he changes the game when he puts his mind to something. Personally, my collection is mostly Marvel and NECA but I have many McF figs that still hold up from Movie Maniacs era. Bonus Points to your Professors telling you "There's no such thing as original thought." As mine did on Day 1 of Freshmen year! Classic.
Jada and NECA are significantly better than Hasbro and McFarlane. Hasbro has become a greedy company hellbent on reusing the same molds and include limited accessories to cut costs while bumping up the overall price of their figures when most of their figures are not worth the price increase. McFarlane figures offer abysmally poor articulation, fairly limited accessories, poor variety overall (the line is comprised of mostly Batman figures), pretty poor headsculpts at times, and numerous other issues fanboys just refuse to acknowledge. McFarlane figures feel more like statues with some articulation. Most McFarlane figures have torsos that can barely move which severely hinders posing and using ball joints for wrists and ankles just isn't a good idea, especially for ankles. The line could be so much better. Jada and NECA, on the other hand, seem to actually care and are constantly pumping out fairly solid figures. NECA figures also suffer from really poor articulation, but they make up for it with far superior sculpts and a huge variety of accessories. I'd much rather see NECA make another Batman figure and I know Jada would make far better Marvel figures than Hasbro.
I'm a Marvel Legends guy. Marvel Legends have better variety in their character selection and good articulation. Say what you will about early Hasbro ML, but nowadays the figures have great sculpts. I especially like how the movie figures are so well sculpted. The comic figures too have great posability and the pinless joints have really made them look better. I've gotten a few DC Multiverse figures. DC Multiverse has great sculpts, but the scaling is so inconsistent, articulation isn't the best, and their no gun policy really drew away from their figures like from The Suicide Squad. We also get WAAAAY too many Batman figures. Plus, the figures don't have a very consistent style. ML at least has two styles of comic and movie (cartoon ML could also mix with comic), but Multiverse tries to do too much at once with styles from Justice League Unlimited, movies, comics, video games, etc., which could be good for buyers who want that variety, but to me it gets confusing.
I love 7" scale. I think it's better because you are getting more action figure for a "similar" price to 6" figures. I also like the other companies that do 7" scale. NECA's figures are amazing and I happily pay their extra price because of how incredible the figures are. The modern MoTU figures from Mattel are in the 7" scale as well so I like them too. I don't own any but they look like they'd be fun figures.
I think 7 inch figures are worse because the majority of action figures are 6 scale. Now because Mcfarlane changed it you can’t have your marvel legends and Mcfarlane figures go tigether
@@Brody-uo9ux I know the imported figures are 6" scale. Like S.H. Figurarts, Mezco, MAFEX. But it seems like the figures at retail that you can find in a Target or Walmart aren't really 6" scale anymore unless they are made by Hasbro. If I'm missing some lines I don't know about definitely tell me Because I can't think of anything off the top of my head.
Yeah, they're both good in their own ways. I just picked up the McFarlane Superboy Prime figure and love it. The detail, the unique approach to the Superman costume, it's just amazing. At the same time, I also picked up the retro carded Apocalypse and feel equally enamored with the figure. If you put a gun to my mother's head and told me I had to drop one of the lines. It would be Marvel Legends simply on the price point. However, if I have to pick a best figure for the past year, it would have to go to the Marvel Select Beta Ray Bill.
I’m not a collector but I think think the McFarlane toys as a whole look better their sculpting and articulation look better than the marvel legends all having the same generic poses. Although how many think that McFarlane could do a better Spider man than Marvel Legends does . I do
The thing is hasbro does their research while tod mcfarlane just picks batman just because it looks cool and yes they do make alot of spider man but they are of suits we mostly want not just a random batman that most people don't know
I personally collect Marvel Legends more than I do McFarlane DC Multiverse, but I'm warming up to DC Multiverse figures lately. I like them for the custom potential and it's articulation scheme over most Marvel Legends (I'm personally not a fan of swivel waists) and even though McFarlane figures scale pretty tall, some figures can fit the 1/12th scale collection if it works for the character like Martian Manhunter or nearly all of the monster-like characters they've done so far. As much as I like the intricate detail, I personally like some of their "basic" figures as of lately. The Flashpoint Project Superman is just so fun to play with and other figures like Blue Beetle, Booster Gold, Deadman, and the upcoming Flashpoint Flash look incredible. I hope that they can expand on that down the line. This video is more in depth than I expected, you addressed a lot of points that I didn't think to consider. Incredible work 👌
MVL shows their face online but hides the figures in a box, while McFarlane hides online but shows is figures in open clearly seen boxes.. oh the irony... lol
For me it is McFarlane, because Batman is one of my favorites. I do love me some Spider-Man, but I appreciate the 7 inch size a little more. Better shelf presence (just IMO). Great channel, love the content!
I really don’t feel like they’re comparable at all, Mcfarlane barely comes with extra hands or heads. The always have the diaper that makes it to where it restricts the movement on the legs.
McFarlane has a much bigger problem with many Batman figures than marvel has with Spider-Man. Like we have tons of different variations of Batman but no classic Wonder Woman or Classic Green Lantern(outside of a two pack with batman)? Like even though we have tons of different Spider-Men but we still have different and classic versions of Captain America, Iron Man, Wolverine, And Hulk.
Marvel: crowd fund a Ghost Rider car for $180 online DC: Batmobile on a larger scale available at retail for $60 Marvel: ugly plastic free packaging DC: normal display cases Marvel: increase prices to $35+ per figure DC: larger figures with superior sculpting for around $20 Marvel: $280 online crowd funded Sentinel that has loose knees DC: classic style figures sold in retail stores as well as remastered vintage vehicles $15 - $25
20:48 That's how I've felt about Marvel Legends since 2014 when they released the Pizza Spidey mold for the 8th-ish time lol. Hasbro's Marvel Legends have been pretty much dead to since ever since I realized the constant reuse of bodies that aren't even that good to begin with. I'd honestly much rather pay higher aftermarket prices on ToyBiz's dated figures than buy Hasbro's dated (for different reasons) figures. I have no interest in DC at all, so I don't own any MCFarlane figures.
While yes the detail on the MacFarlane figure is way better i personally do not like the lack of movement in some of the joints and the qc of some of the figures, and i dont the price increase of marvel legends and how there cheaping out on some the figures
Oh wow, that is literally my hand and my bedroom at 2:29. Did not expect that when i clicked the video, almost did a spit take haha. Awesome video man and thanks for using my photo!
@@DarkspiderDavid91 hey man, no worries at all! I posted it on my old deleted reddit like a year or two ago and just completely forgot about it, so its all fair game even if i did mind lol. Ive been around since the blackspiderdavid era, so was just casually watching this one and thought the photo looked very familiar haha. Thanks again and keep it up!
As someone who has over 75 Marvel Legends (mostly from the past 4 years) and probably about 93% of everything DC McFarlane has made, here's my thoughts: No manufacturer has improved more since acquiring the license more than McFarlane. As a guy who used to be known for "action figures" that were basically poseable statues, he's come a long way. With getting rid of the ugly ball ankles and going for the more anatomically correct sculpted ankles, repositioning the ankle peg allowing for more foot roll, and moving forward with the torso articulation instead of using the antiquated hinge crunch that Hasbro has only recently started, his figures have surpassed Marvel Legends in terms of articulation. And with Hasbro still using the antiquated wrist articulation, it's no doubt that McFarlane has come farther in development of world class action figures than any of the competition, all while having vastly lower prices than the competition. I don't think anyone contest that McFarlane absolutely crushes Hasbro in sculpt detail. Where Hasbro really shines brightest in sculpt is in their G.I. Joe line, which seems to get the first cut of the budget, and Legends gets whatever's left. Meanwhile, there doesn't seem to be as much of a disparity between the sculpt detail of McFarlane's Spawn figures (his baby), and his DC figs. While I look at my retro carded Loki with a completely smooth body and painted on costume details, and my retro carded FF with smooth bodies, and my Spider-Man figs which have entirely painted on costumes, I wonder how much more awesome these would be if McFarlane made all superhero figures, not just DC. I also can't but realize that this means there's a greater homogeneity between Legends bodies. Who knows how many figures share a Spider-Man body, or an Invisible Woman body due to Legends's overwhelming simplicity in body sculpt. Meanwhile, McFarlane who absolutely does not have Hasbro money is better at giving us figures with more unique bodies that are harder to reuse. Hasbro has a bad habit of also reusing the same three energy effects, just dyed different colors to represent spells, swirling fire, and the Kirby crackle effect around the wrists. Meanwhile, about the most McFarlane has reused accessories is with Black Adam/Shazam/Flash lightning effects. Most Batarangs, grapnel guns, swords, and knives are unique to the figure they come with, when he COULD have just reused the same one over and over. Legends are much better about coming with accessories (when it's not just the same reused pieces) and an extra head, which McFarlane wouldn't dream of giving us. About all we get from McFarlane is extra hands. And the no guns rule from wet blanket WB has made it a lot more difficult to give the figures the accessories some of them need. What Hasbro lacks in sculpt detail, I find in my experience they make up for with paint, the universal consistency of its application, while I promise you that no two McFarlane Devastators have the same paint app on them. McFarlane desperately needs greater QC on paint, and what his figures absolutely have in sculpt, they sometimes lack in paint as is evidenced by the Grim Knight, Knightfall Azrael, and Arkham Knight figures which are the poster boys for unfinished paint jobs. But, when he's on, he's ON. Lobo, Infected Superman, Infected Batman, Page Punchers Aqualad, Blue Beetle, Rebirth Batman are just some. When it comes to business practice, toy companies will be toy companies. But, unlike the direct competition, McFarlane didn't virtue signal about going plasticless, become anti collector in the process, and then raise prices by almost 100% to punish all those who stayed. Compared to some of Hasblow's really awful practices, McFarlane giving you the figure you kinda want (New 52 Red Robin Tim Drake) and then later giving you the figure you actually wanted (the upcoming classic Tim Drake Robin) doesn't hold a candle to Hasblow. It also seems greedy for Hasbro to try and crowdfund some figures that they absolutely have the money to make for general release. I wonder how many people would have bought a Sentinel, or Galactus. And with some Haslabs failing miserably, it almost seems like Hasbro doesn't actually know what they fans want. McFarlane, in his improvement, has started to get to a lot of characters that hardcore fans want figures of, not just Batman. I do prefer McFarlane's 7" scale because I feel like the figure is more robust, solid, and like you actually spent money on something when you hold it in hand, as well as potentially having greater shelf presence, but Hasbro's 6" scale does save more space, and real estate for many collectors is the greatest asset. Due to McFarlane relying so much on Batman and his related characters for figures, and him doing dark iterations of other characters (and depending on how you display your shelves), a McFarlane display is often not as colorful as a Legends one, regardless of how you arrange your display. Anyway, with the improvements to articulation that's surpassed the competition, wider range of character figures available now, much more ethical business practices than the direct competition, and sculpt detail that's best in price range, McFarlane is by FAR the best superhero action figure manufacturer and I'm tired of pretending he's not. But, I still like my Marvel Legends and will continue to buy them. Just wish McFarlane made them instead.
Hasbro doesn't really make it up with paint. Sure, they have the face print thing (which Mcfarlane already has too!) but 2/3 times the faces are misprinted, with the eyes on different levels, or simply completely missing the sculpt. It's so bad that the likeness to the actor is completely dependent on whether you get a good print or not. More than ever noticeable on the new Indiana Jones figures. Or sometimes the figure just doesn't look like the actor, like pretty much any Luke Skywalker figure hasbro has released. Where as with Mcfarlane figures, which sure, usually don't get a lot of paint, but it's pretty much always on the right spot, correctly applied, and actor likenesses are always at least decent if not great. They already have print tech and at least on the ones that I bought, which were bought online (so I couldn't choose them) the print is pretty much perfect, with deep colors and none of the hasbro shine. I do think hasbro has better articulation overall, with slightly better joint engineering, but Mcfarlane is getting better and better, and soon they will be as good if not better.
I've pretty much stopped collecting hasbro all together besides a few things here and there. Yea, they have good articulation but that not everything a figure has to be. ML is pretty much 90% repaints and kit bashes. Hasbro is charging in the $30 range for this now. Im just good. So mcfarlane is what I'm putting most of my collecting towards. I've always liked 7" scale. I feel like I'm just getting more figure there. I love that mcfarlane does mostly unique sculpts. And their megafigs are awesome. They have kept their prices in the $20 range so its easier on the wallet. Honestly, my only articulation gripe is that none of their figures don't have a ab crunch but its not a deal breaker. When it comes to the point of them having to charge more which were already seeing, im just hoping they give alittle more accessories. They give alot with flash related figures. I just want extra hands/head sculpts.
I agree both have strengths, but Mcfarlane wins this for me. Sure there are too many batman variants, he needs to expand the character selection....but that $40 game spiderman killed the ML line for me. That, and figures that should be in stores like the spiderman TAS line and trapped in online two packs. That said, very well thought out and articulated video
I truly loved this entire vid, Sir David. From how wholesome it was to view your moments of falling back in love with toy collecting, to how unbiased and genuinely constructive the criticism is towards both companies. Haha I personally only own the Batman Arkham Asylum figure from McFarland and the Renew Your Vows Spider-man 2 pack along with the retro series black suit Spidey. And have been wondering as to which kind of figure I should be eyeing on. All in all this was cool man ✊🏻 much appreciated. Keep up the great content!
Yea I liked this video. Most of the ML vs Mcfarlane videos are pretty biased towards ML and they will almost always side with hasbro because of articulation but ignore all the other factors. This one felt genuine and fair.
I enjoy DC figures as I’ve never gotten a single Marvel legends. Here’s the kicker though. I enjoy marvel properties as a whole more than DC. I like the weight of McFarlane toys and sculpts but I won’t trash marvel legends at all. They got some neat stuff. I also enjoy NECA’s TMNT stuff. Especially the universal monsters mashup. I like what Jakks has been doing with Mario and other properties and their price points. We really are the winners here as collectors. These companies are gonna want to improve to get the leg up. Collect what you enjoy and use your wallet how you want and not let anyone tell you what’s better or worse.
I wanted to like mcfarlane but their practices are soooo outdated and when they came out with that new movie batman, it was just an abomination of a figure 😭
McFarlane clearly has a Batman Fetish, more than Hasbro has a Spider-Man Fetish, as well as the fact that parts break too easily, they are too big, and also terrible articulation (and maybe like 2 accessories)
to kinda generalize the discussion, it either comes down to do you want a figure that moves great, comes with a decent amount of accessories, is easily customizable, or do you want a stiff statue with awful proportioning and 0 accessories
Marvel Legends are objectively better in articulation, proportions and overall feel. Mcfarlane has better paint and sculpts? Maybe not even that, most of the multiverse figures are meatslabs. Even though Legends are getting pricy, the average legend vs the average mcfarlane multiverse figure is night and day. So much more you can do with legends. Maybe mcfarlane could adapt to the point of being better but as of right now that’s still the case. DC Icons if given enough time could’ve rivaled Legends.
Uh uh nope Sony does not own the CHARACTER of Spider-Man. They own the movie production rights to Spider-Man. So if it is Spider-Man movie related, they answer to Sony. Otherwise they answer to marvel directly (yes Disney owns marvel, but marvel is a separate branch)
Youre gonna kill me for this, but i feel like Marvel legends are better. They have a better selection of characters and better quality Control. 6 inch is also a better Scale in my opinion, it’s just Hard to put 7 inch with others lines ecxept Marvel select . I also feel like they listen more to their fans.
For me it's McFarlane... The weight, texture, design... I don't mind the more Limite articulation, and faces might be worse, but that doesn't mean much when character's are wearing helmets or masks. Plus, price point. Would like some alternate head or accessories more often.
And why cant i ever find new ones at target or walmart. Do they underproduce the figures? I check atleast 10 different stores once a week and never see anything during new releases.
Not going to be popular with a lot of people here, but IMHO, there's no comparison, McFarlane DC are 💩, and except for an oddball here and there, Marvel Legends are Great! I am not just saying this, I am not some beginner! In 1 week I celebrate my 30th year as a Collector! I started April 2nd, 1994, with Super Powers and the early Toy Biz. I also owned the local Comic Book Store from 1986 to 2010. I have a pretty decent Collection, approximately 5,500 Total Figures, 10 different Earth's, 6 of them are DC, 3 Marvel, and a Fantasy Earth. I have; Earth 1: Justice League, Main DC Earth 2: Justice Society Earth 3: Crime Syndicate Earth 6: Kingdom Come style Earth 23: Expanded Watchmen style Earth 35: Created Equal, All Female style I have bought exactly 5 McFarlane DC Figures, not counting Rogues from the Batman '66 line. Despite having twice as many DC Earth's, I now have twice as many Marvel Figures as the Marvel Earth's are more complete. DC has always been Terrible about giving us enough Villains. Hey, if you like McFarlane, go for it. There are probably some I may buy in the future, bigger Figures like Darkseid, and I never have gotten a Bane yet. I would have gone for an individual Plastic Man too! But I already have all 4 of those Figures. Not worth it to me.
I’d say marvel legends has just gotten really lazy, because they’ve produced so many good products in the past but are now realizing how much they can actually get away with. In terms of which I prefer, I’d say McFarlane. Only real problems I have with McFarlane are some paint issues and the fact that the figures are 7-inch scale instead of 6-inch.
I don’t have any 7inch figures and I have almost all marvel legends. I kinda want to get into the dc multiverse figures but I’m a little scared that the scale of the 7inch will be too big. Can anyone tell me if the mcfarlane details make up for the difference in scale. Should I start getting mcfarlane multiverse??
I believe so. Because of the difference in brands, and McFarlane having a better change at build quality and detail on suits because of the extra inch, I'm able to forgive it.
Man, I absolutely loved the objective yet full of affection way to speak about both companies. I really missed collectors with the positive attitude u have Great video, also personally I prefer McFarlane (although I would like more Superman figures). And from time to time y hunt some Spiderman figures
I like both but McFarlane has even with some hickups the better value for me, I like the DC Multiverse Figures, Spawn and have a few Avatar and Anime Figures on my list too
If you want statues that are all in the same pose but with major detail, you’d definitely go for mcfarlane marvel legends gets on my nerves with the figure’s details but the articulation, accessories, and the fact that they don’t commonly get broken inside the packages just makes it way objectively better
A lot of the time I think mcfarlane stereotypes get caught up in these comparisons in my roughly 6 years of collecting (we'll say maybe 3 I have been getting mcfarlane), I have seen 1 figure broken in the box ever Additionally, a lot of the newer figures pose really well, page punchers black manta and supergirl, batman speeding bullets, batman dark detective, green lantern kyle rayner, black lantern batman, godspeed, the endless winter/flashpoint/orm body is amazing at the same time I can agree legends (with the good releases) packs in more accessories, though I find myself more and more upset with the lack thereof at this point, $28 for the mk1 iron man classic, no unhelmeted head, only 2 blast effects the entire spiderverse line is lacking either an unmasked head or a complete hand set to justify that $25 price McFarlane should be including more, but we are slowly seeing that, the latest few waves have really been tryin to give alternate hands with all figures
I’ve only gotten 3 dc multiverse figures that have broke on me since he started the line. At least 1-2 figures from each of the recent marvel legends waves broke on me. Whether it’s hand pegs or head pegs being too tight and snapping when I move the head. Also, legends have such gummy joints that’ll I’ll display it for a few weeks and the legs will completely bend in a j shape.
I started out with much more enthusiasm for ML. These days, I am loving Mcfarlane toys. I love the classic looks they are getting into. They sometimes have scaling issues though and I never see that with ML. Like Batgirl is too tall for example. Same with some of the Batman figures. Also, some of the Superman figures have noodle legs.
While not perfect, both pump out good products! If I want consistency in scale, faceprint tech, world/team building, accessories and articulation, hands down, Hasbro. If I want something more affordable, something fresh and unique sculpting, then I pick-up Mcf.
The thing that makes marvel legends better to me ultimately is the security that in 3 years they won’t be a completely different named line by another company
Two days ago, my brother bought two Marvel Legends X-Men figures from Walmart. These X-Men figures are Havok and Vulcan. I've been liking the brand of Marvel Legends since 2018. Now I'm thinking of getting the Marvel Legends Ultimate Captain America figure.
Sony does not own rights to Spider-Man. Sony only has Character Movie rights [and even that is limited]. Marvel [Disney] actually owns all Spider-Man IP (intellectual property). To Keep the movie right Sony must abide by rules and must make a Spider-Man movie every 3 to 5 years (no matter what) otherwise the character movie rights go back to the original IP owner (ie: Marvel [Disney]). Sorry about that but the misinformation at 23:10 mark needed to be corrected. For this toy figure the royalty payment for all merchandise goes to Disney pockets.
You could have also inserted the new Jada Toys Street fighter figures because they look and feel amazing. One thing I don't like about those is that the eyes look flat. But the paint, articulation and price are sure hits!
McFarlane has always been my sweet spot. Been buying McFarlane Toys since they were Todd Toys. Still have my Marvel Lengends Spider-Man Green Goblin mint in package. Thing still looks incredible all these years later, but no one could touch McFarlane from 99-2005 in terms of detail, paint apps, accessories and price point. While I still love McFarlane Toys, they've lost detail, paint apps and quality since their heyday, and their prices have gone up while quality has gone down. However they're still producing some of the best Toys on the market right now.
The retool discussion doesn’t let me Forgive hasbro for again making Insomniac Spider-Man a goddamn repaint again while miles get a new mold specifically for him which is baffling
Spider-man is the one character where I am okay with body reuse, since most Spider-man, male, characters are either Peter Parker, Peter Parker wearing a different costume, Peter Parker from an alt reality, a clone of Peter Parker... it makes sense if they have identical traits. Of course I do appreciate tooling when it is needed. Like that PS5 Spidey sorely lacks. In recent history, I find myself more drawn to McFarlane figures. I just feel like I am getting more for my money in sculpting alone. I am looking forward to Knightfall Batman.
I am with you my man. If I could have only 2 Batmen in my collection, that’s it thats all, it would be that Knightfall one and if true, the 89 Gold Label Batman with the Batmobile.
25:02 oh, first time? Here in Argentina we have made that question about 6 years ago. Actually we still ask it, and things are far to be affordable ever again. That is if the figure you want has arrived, of course.
For me its Mcfarlane I just wasnt impressed with Marvel Legends when I started collecting again. The first figures I bought about a year and a half ago was the Marvel Legends Magneto which has warpping issues with his legs now he wont stand up. But around that time I also bought the Mcfarlane Justice League Batman and the comedian Joker and I was extremely impressed by those two figures and decided to collect Mcfarlane toys and I'd buy select Marvel Legends. As of now I'm right at 100 Mcfarlane DC figures and I got eleven Marvel Legends and three Marvel select figures which are a much better Magneto Thanos and Beta Ray Bill.
At the time this video was uploaded, there have been 4 Batman body bucks re-use. Batman Year 2. Batman Hush with open mouth. Vampire Batman and Batman Hush blue and grey suit. As of today though, we now have 5 of these Batman bodies used, with the addition of the Batman Spawn 2 pack. They really need to retire it now.
Mcfarlane needs to give importance to quality control and accessories. Mcfarlane needs to stop making Batman figures all the time. Marvel legends sometimes has problems with accessories. ML should stop using the same body sculpt all the time. Stop making Spider-Man figures all the time. Both companies have mistakes and this can fix them.
I just buy whatever I like. Right now my favorites come from Mafex and Mezco. But I prefer McFarlane over Hasbro, simply because I don't care for repaints.
I definitely save my boxes for marvel legends bc of the art work. Always cut the tape on your right hand side tab. P.S. I hate hard plastic capes. The only downside of Marvel legends would be the hands after swapping out a couple times they become loose and we all know that ain't a good thing ; )
You are right on about competition in the marketplace benefitting the consumer. Look at Jada Toys entering the ring with their Street Fighter figures at only $25.
From a British point of view I only collect Marvel Legends. I would love to get some of the McFarlane Toys. However it is so difficult to find them for an affordable price. If I try and get them straight from McFarlane they are affordable but the shipping costs more than the actual figure.
I used to be a die hard legends fan (I guess I still am but slightly less so) but McFarlane gets most of my money now. You get the best bang for your buck when it comes to McFarlane. With marvel legends you get the same smooth body molds with a new head and with McFarlane, almost every figure is a uniquely tooled body mold. The amount of detailing and texturing that McFarlane does is incredible. Todd also listens to feedback. He’s made so many improvements to the figures and listened to the feedback fans have given him to better the line like changing the ankle joints, add more accessories, and improve range of movement. That shows that Todd really does care about the line and wants it to keep going and improving. Hasbro practically spits in fans facing when they get feedback or criticisms. They just keep upping the price and doing whatever they want instead of listening to the fans like Todd does. I still collect legends, but at the end of the day, McFarlane will always beat what Hasbro puts out.
As a marvel and dc fan deffinetly I pick both, my only complains with legends us the prices are not worth it most times and with mcfarlane the lack of accesories.
If Hasbro put in half the effort into the ML line as McFarlane does to the Multiverse line they'd be the clear winner because of the character selection. But as it stands right now it's McFarlane for me. The sculpts and price put them over the top.
Hands down McFarlane Toys. Simply based on detail. How many times have you passed on a Marvel Legend because the details of the suit were painted instead of sculpted? For me, it's several. Legends are for kids and Multiverse is for adults 😅
@@antonialaizure5748 So you belive that figures with horrible quality control, wierd proportions, bad articulation and barely any accoseories is better?
Mcfarlane only flaw imo is re-releasing the same figure but with different head(example:unmasked). Hasbro would just put that as an alternate head in the same packaging.
Mcfarlane is the gold standard rn, he’s running the action figure game. Legends is getting too greedy and Todd just keeps pumping out original sculpts and cool characters . Paint sometimes needs work but that’s where I come in
Legends for me Most of my DC Multiverse figures broke right out of the packaging while my Spider-Man 2 figure from 2004 is still going strong despite some loose joints
I've recently bought some Figures from both Marvel Legends Series and McFarlane Toys, I like them, got Batman Arkham Knight, Superman Justice League Red/Blue Henry Cavill, Catwoman Arkham City, Wolverine Heated Claws, thinking of getting Mystique but the Funko Pop Mystique 217 also looks great so I'm undecided on which to buy, also I may get the Wolverine 97 and Wolverine Hugh Jackman Brown Leather Jacket Figure soon.
This face with McFarlane's Batman.... Did the same one with Pagepuncher Black Adam's fig 😂 Love your vids, really entertaining to watch and interesting to listen. 👍🏻
I'll always thank the '07 Transformers movie for getting me back into Transformers, but I sold off all of my Bayverse stuff a few years ago. I still want to collect Transformers, but it's still expensive. I used to collect Marvel Legends too, but I decided I can only collect 1 franchise. I live vicariously through UA-cam toy channels.
David, first of all great video, my answer is Marvel Legends. Legends, Star Wars Black and G.I. Joe Classified are all at the six inch scale and McFarlane and others feel like outliers, it's annoying if you have a 1/12 scale car you're using as a backdrop that doesn't scale with your seven inch figures! Legends seems to want to give us at least one version of every character in the MCU and the regular 616 comic universe, all we get from McFarlane is Batman, Batman, Batman, imagine having your favourite food everyday, it won't be your favourite much longer. Also there's the sculps, Marvel seems a but more neutral McFarlane has the swooshing capes and the weird side eye! Mafex does some six inch DC figures that are what McFarlane should have aimed to deliver.
I only collect transformers and recently we’ve been getting awesome figs … the brand new team at Hasbro transformers really understands what we need ! Both Transformers studio series & Legacy are amazing toy line
Both companies have their own favorites. there are characters that are high quality sculpt, heavily accessorize, superb paint job, unique packaging presentation, and good scale-size comparison. While others are just meh re-use of parts and re-paints.
my only gripe with mcfarlane dc multiverse figured is that it doesn't have a superman figure with a correct scale yet. superman should be bulkier and taller than batman and the flash.
my bro looks like he saw jesus after seeing mcfarlane batman😂
lmao, I forgot to add a lens glare.
looking at the last batman figures mattel did, that first mcfarlane batman was jesus himself
More like the 2nd cumming!!!
@@DarkspiderDavid91 hey man just found your channel it's my favorite collecting channel. What sub reddits would you recommend for collecting and toys???
Lol
Definitely agree. McFarlane is adding new versions, looks, and adding more accessories. Also the build a figure sets are better value imo.
the spawn figures are one of my favorite
@@Dwarf_Enjoyer those look great. Luckily I'm not into that line, otherwise lol
I think Marvel legends is better for now, cause some mcfarlane figures feels like the one who made the figure is lazy to articulate it and they are not easy to pose. The design is really good from other marvel legends figures but for now they need to articulate it better like they did with dc icons but a different body mold.
Oh how I so wish McFarlane's DC Multiverse were 6 inch scale just like Marvel Legends 😭
Also wish they were pinless
Something Todd started doing just like Hasbro does it is just repaint a naked body, which was unexpected and disappointing like the older Superman and the Nightwing with yellow pattern in his chest.
I agree 200% about the capes in the plastic slit in the packaging. Every time I chose to open a McFarlane figure that has a cape I’m always worried it’s gunna break or somthing and I have to perform surgery on the plastic like I’m trying to remove a limb from some mangled car wreckage
Mcfarlane Toys
Hands down.
I feel that the: price and quality of most Mcfarlane toys are better but I still wish that Mcfarlane toys would have more paint apps and washes like we used to get in the old school Mcfarlane toys Spawn days. I don't care about articulations as much as I like the way the figures look just standing on a shelf
Rn id say todd sucks ASS with his line bro just uses horrible body molds
I love McFarlane but the lack of accessory and shitty scale pisses me off
For me in the end it comes down to McFarlane, I was such a hasbro fan, I collected pretty much every 6in line in the year 2020 and 2021, however as time went on and prices went up, coupled with the windowless boxes, and the lacking of needed accessories at the $25.99 price
In the end McFarlane might not make the *best* toys on the market, but he makes *really good* toys at an affordable price, and what more can a man child like myself ask for lol
my problem is that the McFarlane line has been running for 3 years now? and we still do not have a definitive comic Justice League. There is legit 80 different variations of Batman, and we still have yet to get a classic Aquaman or Wonder Woman. He runs a DC line that is almost entirely Batman.
@@faintsignalx I must say I agree with you. Too many Batman figures! I really hope Todd can expand the DC Multiverse beyond Batman.
Yeah we can’t all afford play arts Kai
$40 McFarlenes say otherwise
@robertomoya4502 those are giant figures or vehicles. The price is 100% justified there
the comparison really comes down to would you like your figure to move more but it uses the same model most of the time or would you like a figure that doesn’t move to much but is extremely detailed
I'm not saying you should, but you could easily modify McFarlane figures to move just as much if not more. As the figures use a double ballpeg in the torso you can trim plastic away to make it go lower. It's annoying cause all the right articulation pts are there, just not implemented right.
Range of motion has been improving with each subsequent McFarlane Figure…..
A recent figure that's very egregious is the Arkham Catwoman legs way to long, of course it's excused cause of the greatest action figure butt of all time
Jada toys are doing 6 inch Street Fighter figures. Hopefully they become a major player
McFarlane needs to stop putting them in poses inside the box, the legs and arms are always warped out of the packaging.
Classic.
You seriously deserve more subscribers and views. Top quality content.
I appreciate that!
@@braydenpage1808 that’s fair. I can respect that, I just buy a lot of imports
Huh? NECA..:.. Mattel’s WWE….. MOTU Classics…. Masterverse…. Diamond Select(though in decline)…. These are larger scale than ML…..
@@Brody-uo9ux it depends, for superhero and comic characters I prefer 6 inch but for movie and horror characters I prefer 7 inch
Marvel legends are superior, mid farlane thought figures were statues and it wasn't always meant to be like that.
Marvel lamegends can't even stand up 🤣
@@tvirus9369 EHM, marvel legends eternals kro figure? IT HAS FLAT LEG AND CAN STAND UP

@@Swoosh616 Wrong, Sony sold the Spider-man product rights to Disney / Marvel.
Incredible work 👌
Thank you for the words, Marcus.
MVL shows their face online but hides the figures in a box, while McFarlane hides online but shows is figures in open clearly seen boxes.. oh the irony... lol
I personally am NOT a fan of DC Multiverse, but this is really in-depth and great review. Good job!
For me it is McFarlane, because Batman is one of my favorites. I do love me some Spider-Man, but I appreciate the 7 inch size a little more. Better shelf presence (just IMO). Great channel, love the content!
McFarlane rules all day everyday but I love legends too, shoulda compared to GI Joe.
On the bright side, its looking like the classic Wonder Woman problem might get fixed later this Fall.
Marvel: crowd fund a Ghost Rider car for $180 online
DC: Batmobile on a larger scale available at retail for $60
Marvel: ugly plastic free packaging
DC: normal display cases
Marvel: increase prices to $35+ per figure
DC: larger figures with superior sculpting for around $20
Marvel: $280 online crowd funded Sentinel that has loose knees
DC: classic style figures sold in retail stores as well as remastered vintage vehicles $15 - $25

I wish Todd and the people at Marvel Legends would see this video.
It is totally necessary that they watch this video.
Bro gets a little too excited by these figures
While yes the detail on the MacFarlane figure is way better i personally do not like the lack of movement in some of the joints and the qc of some of the figures, and i dont the price increase of marvel legends and how there cheaping out on some the figures

As someone who has over 75 Marvel Legends (mostly from the past 4 years) and probably about 93% of everything DC McFarlane has made, here's my thoughts:
No manufacturer has improved more since acquiring the license more than McFarlane.
I'll give you the heart.
Very much most of this. Very well said.
This is just so wrong lmfao
Im more into DC Multiverse cause of the 7 inch figures that have great sculpts to represent where each one comes from and the prices are good.
Thank you, I appreciate the words!
@@DarkspiderDavid91 yes sir! Thank you 🙏🏻
Yea I liked this video.
@@sebtheguy23 your bias towards marvel legends is very apparent bro 💀
Thanks for the info!
A little off topic. So McFarlane toys has their gold label series. The more "limited" versions. Does marvel have an equivalent of that?
i have a question, What was the music at the start of the video? called at 0:01?
And why cant i ever find new ones at target or walmart. Do they underproduce the figures? I check atleast 10 different stores once a week and never see anything during new releases.
10:10 did you just... did you just shame kids for buying action figures? It's literally made for them. You don't even take them out of the box
I shamed spoiled little brats whose parents buy them everything.
Not going to be popular with a lot of people here, but IMHO, there's no comparison, McFarlane DC are 💩, and except for an oddball here and there, Marvel Legends are Great! I am not just saying this, I am not some beginner! In 1 week I celebrate my 30th year as a Collector! I started April 2nd, 1994, with Super Powers and the early Toy Biz. I also owned the local Comic Book Store from 1986 to 2010. I have a pretty decent Collection, approximately 5,500 Total Figures, 10 different Earth's, 6 of them are DC, 3 Marvel, and a Fantasy Earth. I have;
Earth 1: Justice League, Main DC
Earth 2: Justice Society
Earth 3: Crime Syndicate
Earth 6: Kingdom Come style
Earth 23: Expanded Watchmen style
Earth 35: Created Equal, All Female style
I have bought exactly 5 McFarlane DC Figures, not counting Rogues from the Batman '66 line. Not worth it to me.
the windowless packaging was a dealbreaker for me
I’d say marvel legends has just gotten really lazy, because they’ve produced so many good products in the past but are now realizing how much they can actually get away with.
@@DarkspiderDavid91 thank you so much!

I like both but McFarlane has even with some hickups the better value for me, I like the DC Multiverse Figures, Spawn and have a few Avatar and Anime Figures on my list too
If you want statues that are all in the same pose but with major detail, you’d definitely go for mcfarlane
marvel legends gets on my nerves with the figure’s details but the articulation, accessories, and the fact that they don’t commonly get broken inside the packages just makes it way objectively better
A lot of the time I think mcfarlane stereotypes get caught up in these comparisons
in my roughly 6 years of collecting (we'll say maybe 3 I have been getting mcfarlane), I have seen 1 figure broken in the box ever
Additionally, a lot of the newer figures pose really well, page punchers black manta and supergirl, batman speeding bullets, batman dark detective, green lantern kyle rayner, black lantern batman, godspeed, the endless winter/flashpoint/orm body is amazing
at the same time I can agree legends (with the good releases) packs in more accessories, though I find myself more and more upset with the lack thereof at this point, $28 for the mk1 iron man classic, no unhelmeted head, only 2 blast effects
the entire spiderverse line is lacking either an unmasked head or a complete hand set to justify that $25 price
McFarlane should be including more, but we are slowly seeing that, the latest few waves have really been tryin to give alternate hands with all figures
Is this comparision about who makes the better or the worst figures?
While not perfect, both pump out good products! If I want consistency in scale, faceprint tech, world/team building, accessories and articulation, hands down, Hasbro. If I want something more affordable, something fresh and unique sculpting, then I pick-up Mcf.
The thing that makes marvel legends better to me ultimately is the security that in 3 years they won’t be a completely different named line by another company
Even though it probably should be
Two days ago, my brother bought two Marvel Legends X-Men figures from Walmart. These X-Men figures are Havok and Vulcan. I've been liking the brand of Marvel Legends since 2018.
Now I'm thinking of getting the Marvel Legends Ultimate Captain America figure.
Similar experience… I started again with McFarlane DC
I love the intro, it just gives you that nostalgic feeling
Maybe in a future comparison.
The retool discussion doesn’t let me
Forgive hasbro for again making Insomniac Spider-Man a goddamn repaint again while miles get a new mold specifically for him which is baffling
I haven't seen a video like this on other figure review channels. It's like a documentary. Very interesting.
Glad you liked it!
I have no problem with more Spider-Man or Batman being produced either😊
My biggest problem with all of mc farlan figures is how they package the stands it makes keeping the box so much harder
Great video! Really enjoyed it 🤙
Thank you!
I’m a Transformers collector and I’m over here watching videos about Marvel and DC figures.
@@Bonemealz I have yet to find an issue with them. They work perfectly for how I display my figures.
@@antonialaizure5748 yeah well the limbs tend to fall off like loose lego pieces so be careful with that, just a heads up 👍
Mcfarlane only flaw imo is re-releasing the same figure but with different head(example:unmasked).
Hasbro would just put that as an alternate head in the same packaging.
Mcfarlane is the gold standard rn, he’s running the action figure game. Legends is getting too greedy and Todd just keeps pumping out original sculpts and cool characters . Paint sometimes needs work but that’s where I come in
Legends for me
Most of my DC Multiverse figures broke right out of the packaging while my Spider-Man 2 figure from 2004 is still going strong despite some loose joints
close your eyes and imagine your in toys r us, I started crying
The intro was literally my childhood😭
BAT AND SPIDEY COOOOL! THANK YOU!😊
Both companies have their own favorites. there are characters that are high quality sculpt, heavily accessorize, superb paint job, unique packaging presentation, and good scale-size comparison. While others are just meh re-use of parts and re-paints.
Nice to watch a video with a positive message at the end! Refreshing
my only gripe with mcfarlane dc multiverse figured is that it doesn't have a superman figure with a correct scale yet. superman should be bulkier and taller than batman and the flash.
