- On July 10, 2013 the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers sequentially opened the spillways on the Hartwell Dam. The spillways are tested every three years. Gates open at the following points in the video:

Hartwell is 180 feet deep at the dam. Awesome display of power, not unlike a big freight train.
Awesome! Nothing like the power of flowing water! This reminds me of the lock and dam near Dumas Arkansas.(Pendleton) on the Arkansas River,with 16 gates.when all the gates were opened,an alarm was sounded and it was an awesome site! Good video!
Unbelievable. I'd like to know how much lower the water level of its reservoir was after the test!
The lake went down 1 inch because of this test.

This is the largest lake in South Carolina.
