Still have my Shuttle from the very early 00s on my desk today. I fell in love with the form factor as a teenager and my daily driver which must be at least 10 years old is sat next to it with an Intel 4790K CPU in it. Both charming and small.
Awesome video, great to see the full history of the standard! Just recently dipped into the ITX world by making a PC for my Dad as a christmas gift. A friend at work was selling an ASUS Maximus VIII Impact with a 6700K and 32GB or RAM for cheap, so I snapped it up and slapped it into a Coolermaster NR200P with a Sapphire RX580 and 450W PSU - it was a bit of a pain to work on as I'm used to pretty cavernous cases, but it came together nicely and he's real pleased with it!
Been using itx board since the launch of the asus z170-i gaming wi-fi so for roughly 8 years and now i only build with itx boards, just recently built in the Lzmod a24-v5 case and i love it
Nicely researched and presented! Well deserved sub. I have five mini-ITX cases and eight or so motherboards. Been using this form factor ever since my first EPIA Eden 5000. Beyond the size it is all about low power/heat. Same goals with PowerMac Cube or Mac Mini.
Interesting little review. Never had anything using a small-form-factor board, though. The one media PC I've built reused an old ATX board I had lying around (still with an Athlon 64X2 processor and 2GB of RAM).
I find the prices for the older Mini-ITX embedded stuff is mainly because of the commercial and industrial markets where some company needs a specific model and will pay extortionate rates.
I have a PGA370 Flexus P6F135 and its amazing. It can accept a 1.4ghz Tualatin core Pentium III and comes with pretty much all of the onboard stuff you need. I want to build an SFF retro PC using it and my Voodoo5 pci, but I can't find the right small form factor case for it. I want one that let's me use a disc drive and hopefully a floppy drive as well. And if there's any way for me to split the pci slot to use both the Voodoo5 and my Aureal Vortex 2 for A3D than I would be absolutely golden.
Mini-ITX, a "small" history? Nice title. Subbed. Everyone should build a mini-itx at least once. They are so small the board fits right in your hand! However, I'm the type to be against having a GPU in these heat constrained builds.....get a real motherboard and case for that.
I have a mini itx build i did for my YT last year. A4 h20... A PAIN IN THE ASS. 10/10 DO NOT RECOMMEND. its cool but holy shit it was the most frustrating build ever. Large due to my sfx power supply having insanely stiff cables. In all seriousness i only reccomend if you have built a few pc's already.
@@techdistractions yeah. I was being experimental with trying to get away with air cooling on a 7950x. It's been moderately successful. I plan to extend my case with a mod I found on etsy so I can get a better cooler.

thanks for the comment!
oh I love the cube, by far one of the coolest looking computer designs

Those embedded Celeron Intel ITX boards seem rare and kinda pricey but man that would be fun to have a full fledged w98 itx machine

Awesome video! Been using miniITX for more than a decade now. In 5 years or so I think miniITX will be the DeFacto standard as GPUs die out.
Great video! Congrats on the 1k subs
Cheers :-)

I am not sure how common that was but with Via it was something they had in their spec

good advice I reckon, its not a beginner friendly form factor especially if you're doing a gaming build with decent cooling and power requirements
