I have been using Klook in my travels and would like to do an advanced booking to secure seats but knowing that I cannot specifically choose the dedicated last row for oversize baggage worries me. • @KenshoQuest
      @KenshoQuest  5 місяців тому

      Hi, what is your time frame? IF it is within 7 days, then for all the places you are going to visit the whole JR Pass ( 7 days) will be a better deal. This way, you wouldn't have to print so many tickets. You would just pick up your JR Pass.
      If longer then you might still want to consider the 14 JR Pass. You will have to do some math to figure out if it is worth it.
      If you still prefer individual tickets then I'm afraid, at least through Klook, you won't be able to pickup all your tickets in one go. the reason is you will be traveling through many different JR companies and each has it's own rules. So you would need to get your tickets in different places.
      Or, you can check out smart-ex.jp/
      We don't have a video on it yet but will in the future.

    Thank you so much for the wonderful and very helpful tutorial. I am just trying to make sure we're buying the right rickets. So I am traveling with my family of 4 and say we have 3 bags but each of them is less than 160. Does that mean that we can buy the non-reserved tickets? or do we have to combine the total of our bags and that means we have to buy an extra ticket/seat for the luggage? I would highly appreciate your help on that.

    • @KenshoQuest
      @KenshoQuest  18 днів тому +1

      Hi. Each passenger may bring onboard a Shinkansen train two pieces of luggage, weighing up to 30kg each. Each piece can have total dimensions (length + width + depth) up to 160cm. Only luggage that's 160-250cm total requires a special reservation for oversized luggage area/compartment. Since your bags are within 160cm, you can purchase either a Non-Reserved ticket, in which case seating is on a first-come first-serve basis. Or you can by a regular ordinary reserved seat, in which case you will have a specific seat in a specific train car. Hi, thank you for the video and I have been watching alot of your informative videos as I will be travelling with my family for the first time to Japan... as i am travelling from Shin- osaka to Tokyo via Nozumi, if I were to book through Klook now which is more than 2 months away, how can I pick up the tickets? Also as I plan to take the reserved first class, do I still need to reserve extra size baggage seat?

    • @KenshoQuest
      @KenshoQuest  3 місяці тому

      Hi, to pick up your tickets you will receive a QR Code via email once you are within 30 days of your travel date on the shinkansen. Once you have your QR Code you can visit the reserved ticketing machine at Shin-Osaka and scan your QR code for your tickets.
      Regarding oversized baggage seat it depends if you have oversized luggage. If you do, then the easiest way to reserved the dedicated seats for oversize would be to visit the JR ticketing office, though you can also do it via the same ticketing machine.

      Hi, great question! The main difference is that if you are traveling south of Tokyo then you can use SmartEX. If you are traveling north of Tokyo then Klook is the best choice since SmartEX only serves south of Tokyo. Overall, both are great it's just that Klook covers the whole of Japan and is a little easier to use. But, SmartEX can have larger discounts. At some point we will make a video explaining the difference.

      Hi, purchasing directly in person will most likely be a little cheaper but ticket prices fluctuate as well. The main benefit of purchasing from Klook is ease of use. Especially for first timers. But if you have time then purchasing directly from the ticket office can be a good experience as you can ask questions as well. The downside to this is you might need to wait in line for up to one hour.

    Hi, what an amazing video so helpful and well explained... I am heading out to Japan later this year and has 3 main questions:
    1. Can you purchase return tickets (open or otherwise?) and if so how do you do this through Klook.
    2. With the price hike of a 14day JRPass now costing 80K Yen, do you still think it is worth it for most holiday goers?
    3. My itinerary takes me from Shin-Osaka to Hiroshima and from Hiroshima back to either Shin-Osaka or Kyoto, as this is south of Shin-Osaka will I still be able to get electronic tickets? Or will I need to buy these in advance and have them sent to a Japanese address, which seems quite a challenge especially as I will be travelling around.

    • @KenshoQuest
      @KenshoQuest  6 місяців тому

      Hi, glad the video was helpful! And you have some great questions that are all hard to answer:
      1) While you can purchase return tickets, they are all a set date and time. However, if you purchased non-reserved, you should easily be able to catch a different train within a similar time frame.
      2) For most people the how JR Pass 7,14 or 21 are no longer a cost effective way to travel in Japan. With that said, it is hard to beat the convenience of having the JR Pass. We now realize how great it was being able to ride almost any JR train at anytime. But if you are spending the bulk of your time in the Kansai and Hiroshima area then you might be interested in a regional pass such as the Kansai Hiroshima area pass: www.klook.com/activity/3278-5-day-jr-kansai-hiroshima-area-pass-jr-pass/?aid=29280
      You could buy a couple of these to use back to back.
      3) If purchased through Klook the tickets will be mailed for this area unfortunately. I suggest looking into SmartEx system. We haven't made a video on this yet but will in the near future: smart-ex.jp/en/index.php

      Hi, if you received a QR code then you can certainly use other reserved ticketing machines, not just from the departure station. But it might depend on where you are departing. For example, since you are currently in Tokyo you are in the JR East region but if you are departing from Shin-Osaka that is JR West region and you might need to use a reserved ticketing machine in the West region since these are technically two different companies. But it wouldn't hurt to try it in Tokyo. Please let us know how it goes. Good luck and have a great trip!

Or by checking each segment on Klook (you can choose non reserved or reserved seats). Prices stay the same, unless a price increase goes into effect. With the new price of the JR Pass, it’s probably cheaper to buy individual tickets than to get the 14 Day JR Pass. Hi, first you need to retrieve your Shinkansen tickets at the reserved ticketing machine. These will be near the Shinkansen gates. The gates are on the first floor at Tokyo station. Once you find the machine you can use any of them. If you need assistance please ask the staff, most will speak some English even if they say they can’t. Once you have your tickets then go to the office to reserve the oversized seats. We highly recommend that you do this at least a day before your travel. This will give you extra time to familiarize yourself with the station and reserve your seats. Since it is possible there will not be availability at the time you want to travel. But don’t worry, there are many trains each day :)

      Hi, for your route, it's a bit tricky unless you receive QR codes for all three trips. I think from Hiroshima to Tokyo you can pick up from the machine at the same time as from Tokyo to Osaka. So the only issue I see is your trip from Osaka to Hiroshima as it most likely needs to be mailed to you.
      If this is an issue you might want to consider the whole Japan Rail Pass as that will cover your entire trip. Hi, first, what time are you arriving at Narita? If you arrive after 9PM then it could be a problem.
      Otherwise, If you miss your shinkansen train, it's not a big deal as you will be traveling on the busiest corridor on the Tokaido shinkansen where there are several trains per hour.
      To give you a general idea of time. Once you leave Narita, assuming you are taking the Narita Express to Tokyo station then taking the Tokaido shinkansen from toyko station to Kyoto station, the total time will be about 4.5 hrs. If you have young kids like us then it might take an additional hour.
      The shinkansen bullet trains are very punctual. Just make sure you do not take the Kodama Shinkansen - it is the slowest. Take the Hikari or if you want the fastest, take the Nozomi, though this train might be more expensive.

      Hi, the easiest way to change your seat reservation is to first redeem your shinkansen ticket in Japan then once you have your ticket, visit the JR ticketing office. They will be able to help you change your seats. Or if you feel comfortable, you can also do this via the ticketing machine when you collect your tickets. I hope this helps.

I assume they need to accomidate a seat for them. Is it possible to 'purchase' a ticket on Klook for a child age 5 and under?

      Hi. Children 5 and under do not need their own Shinkansen ticket, but if they do not have a ticket they are expected to share a seat. We often let our 3 year old sit between two of us. If you want your child to have their own seat, you can purchase a child ticket (even though it’s labeled for 6-11 yrs old). On Klook, you first select the number of tickets, and then on the second page it allows you to choose how many adult tickets and how many children (half price). Hope that helps! 🌸 Heidi

      Yes, Golden week will be busy but it will be a great time too :)
      Yes, you can purchase tickets from Klook up to 90 days in advance. However, since JR only issues tickets for up to 30 days from purchase, you won't receive your confirmation until you are within your 30 days of your train ticket date. I hope this makes sense. Let us know, and you'll definitely have a great time during golden week!

Days 5-6 will be in Kanazawa and Kyoto. Days 7 will be in Nara/Osaka. Day 8 will be in Okayama. And, day 9 will be in Kurashiki/Himeji. What would your suggestion be for purchasing transportation passes? I’m overwhelmed with all the different options.

    • @KenshoQuest
      @KenshoQuest  5 місяців тому +1

      Hi! The first thing that pops to mind is the Hokuriku Arch Pass. That will take you from Tokyo to Nagano. You can pay separately to get to Matsumoto from Nagano. Then once you are back at Nagano it will take you to Kanazawa. Then onward to Kyoto, Osaka, and Nara. It's a 7-day pass (and covers JR lines in Tokyo and the Tokyo monorail). You can take the JR Keiyo Line from Maihama Station (Disney) to Tokyo Station. Here's our Guide to the Hokuriku Arch Pass: ua-cam.com/video/Z_BlVF-h_xk/v-deo.html
      Then for Osaka to Okayama to Himeji you may want the Kansai Wide Area Pass. Here's our affiliate link for that: geni.us/kansaiwideareapass These passes are technically for more days than you need them, but you can add up the cost of buying separate tickets vs the pass to make a decision. I also recommend installing the "Japan Travel" by Navitime app on your phone. Within the app you can set a specific "Tourist Pass" and then it will show you routes covered by that pass. 🌸 Heidi

    Confused...if you cannot choose your seat with the reserved seating, what is the difference between the reserved and non reserved seating?

    • @KenshoQuest
      @KenshoQuest  Місяць тому +1

      Hi. If you purchase a reserved seat on Klook, once you are within 30 days of our train travel, Klook will assign you a seat, for example 3A. If you purchase a non-reserved ticket, you will need to ride a a non-reserved car. In which case, you enter the non-reserved car and look around to see if there are any seats available. You can sit in any empty seat. If there are no empty seats, you can stand and hope someone gets off the train eventually, so you can take their seat. We explain the different types of seating on Shinkansen trains in this separate video: ua-cam.com/video/f3JDRc5sl5I/v-deo.html
