aw you're wearing my shirt! ✋✨ thanks for sharing these, somehow crusher x was the only one on my radar, but yeah it's dense af. highly recommend borderlands if you ipad.
A few more I really like: UVI Falcon’s granular engine, Steinbergs Padshop (needs eLicenser), Reaktor Form (weird mix of granular and wavetable/travel)
I'm so upset you're not more popular than you are. Your videos are always unbelievably entertaining to watch, and informative. Easily my favourite channel on youtube.
Man.... That background.... Could you make a t-shirt? But have the whole thing covered with little devices, front, back, sleeves... Now that’d be dope!
I'm a huge fan of Grainstorm on Android, love playing with that when I'm just on my phone. Not only does it have very nice granular synthesis with 4 tracks, it's got tons of other features, like complex envelopes, randomized pitch modulation, vocoder, envelope followers, LFOs, many effects, etc. The free version has most features enabled too.
Crusher X is probably the most complex of all the ones you've listed. I've had it since its inception and you can really make some mind boggling sounds with it. I used to use it frequently with a Logitech force feedback joystick . Loads of fun! The latest version is crazy go nuts. Will have to check out Palindrome! Thanks!
Superb...just learnt about line in on Granulator 2 from this....great run through.... gonna fun then through each other into portal and back to the future....
Thanks for the granular exploration. Rapid latest (1.8) also has granulation plus oscillator, like Pigments. And Glitchmachine's Polygon is also worth a look for granulator plus oscillator..
I like the textures of Granite... and granulator 2 ( didn’t realise this had live input ).... I’ve been using Granurise with MIRA app to control the VST with the iPad .....also Portal as live input granular effect....great overviews as usual.... All the best Jeremy 🙌🏾
6:03 * presses key * _THOOP THERP BLAP_ * alarmingly stares at monitor * “so let’s go head and DEautomate these” ...welcome to the journey of granular synthesis everyone!
In my opinion FRMS is by far the most intresting granular syth. It has four layers and you an do classic syths and franular syths on those layers, and you can make them FM eachother.
I like Quanta because there are plugin and IOS versions (I own licenses for both) and it is really easy to use. Flagship granular synthesizers not locked to a particular DAW (ahem... Alchemy... grrr...) include UVI Falcon and Steinberg Halion 6. I prefer Falcon myself and am sitting on the fence over upgrading from Halion 5 to 6. These allow you to do granular synthesis over multi-samples. Steinberg Padshop Pro 2 (you want the Pro version to be able to load your own samples) is also a great lower-priced granular-only synth. I would also recommend having a look at Inertia Sound Systems Granularizer 2. A lot of people seem to like Output Portal granular effect but I haven’t tried it. Maybe you tried some of these and gave them passes.
I've tested Quanta, another plugin called FRMS and a couple of free ones but imo nothing beats the simplicity and immediacy of Granulizer. I might try one of these other ones but I think a lot of them are unnecessarily complex
im a fan of madrona labs kaivo. the granular side of things is pretty basic compared to something like granulator II but its mashed up with an amazing sounding physical modeling engine and some very well considered modulation options. plus theyre local, ill always support the boys in ballard
If you do like using granular a lot, please spend some time with NI Form. It's unique and uses a different kind of granular algo than the others use. that sounds redundant but what I mean is besides the different granular algo, how you can manipulate the playhead is really cool.
so granite 2 only runs in this Max for live thing which only runs in Ableton Live...right? I was just looking at the GranuRise, and understood that it only runs in Ableton.
Great demos. I'm obsessed with granular synthesis and was working on a M4L granular synth until Grain Scanner came out. It has a bit more articulation in terms of randomness and chaotic potential than the Granulator II and Quanta, which were my go-to granular synths. I'm convinced it's the best granular synth out there, but the depth of functionality comes at a heavy CPU cost if you're not careful. I may have to check out Palindrome; it looked a bit unwieldy when I first saw demos of it, but... how can you argue with that lovely mess of sound here?
Hi Jeremy! I love granular synthesis, and I found some new tools here. Just a small thing is that timbre is pronounced more like "tamber," not "tomber." It's such a strange to pronounce word, so I don't blame the mistake at all! I'm so happy you're making so many videos, and I wish you the best with this full time. You're super talented. :)
Is this similar to what Ableton's Grain Delay effect accomplishes? I could never figure out what it was doing but I knew I could get some crazy sounds out of it
Roli's Equator 2 is also good at granular synthesis and has a granular engine. Crusher X is capable of producing some amazing sounds but I found it very glitchy and the sound output intermittent and lost completely periodically
@@RedMeansRecording yeah it's terrible isn't it - had the same issue with Pulsar900. I think a reduce feature demo is much better - or if you are going to use a watermark - the loopcloud style bird chirps are a much better
Reviews online are generally quite positive. One thing: "It's still being sold but it is no longer being developed and the dev has basically gone fishing." from a forum post at: www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=503816

Borderlands is the gold standard, and your shirt is pretty great.
plz make a video on granular synth and can you include some free ones if you do plz

Reaktor form is dope
WTF VR
have a wonderful day mister! Thank you for the presentation!
I didn't realize this was a feature in Pigments! Excited to go and try it out. These sounds are so good.

It is :)

Great video - Slate and Ash ‘Cycles’ is brilliant too

For any one looking for a primarily intuitive approach to granular, Space Craft Synth is really fun.
Reasons grain rack plug-in is brilliant imo
Thank you Jeremy for the cool vid!
ah i love that you are using the hollow knight sounds!
If you get the chance, try Cycles by Slate and Ash. It’s amazing and I think you’d love it. It would be great for Slate and Ash if you featured it :)
Ableton Granulator is an all-time favorite, thanks Robert Henke :D
Seriously
Very,very cool.jon hassel sounds

A really clear way of showing how granular synthesis works. Thanks for sharing!
There is a way to do somewhat similar things with Elektron Digitakt.
Great point!
I just wish Quanta's matrix was faster to use. Maybe a drag and drop approach like Serum or a drop down menu, but the way it is is just not friendly

Understood! We'll remove the popup in the upcoming update. Great review - thanks!

I was intrigued by Kaivo. Have they solved the high CPU-usage problem in their latest versions?
Palindrome's amazing for soundscapes yeah, takes a bit of getting used to but a breeze to work with once you do.

Man absolutely cool, I've to try similar but I'm using custom Synth.:D 👍🙂
Some of the palindrome stuff sounded like pod racers lol
You have to check out Slate + Ash Cycles. It’s a super weird granulizer loop engine. I think you’ll like it.
Gem of a vid
Great Demos, have you checked out IOTA for M4L?
so granite 2 only runs in this Max for live thing which only runs in Ableton Live...right? I was just looking at the GranuRise, and understood that it only runs in Ableton.
Uvi falcon granular and multigranular is also good uvi falcon multigranular and spark verb is great for atmospheres and pad sounds

Thanks a pretty informative video....but what do u think about the Pigments 2 granular synth engine?
No one talks about The Mangle :( tho it's one of if not the best imo

Sort of but not quite
curious to know which one u use the most :) love knowing ppls favs

808 plus granular synth equals reese are synth bass
Do you know of any free Granular Synthesis VSTs that are worth experimenting with?
Did you try Steinberg Padshop? I think you would like it.
it was one of those ones that was somehow impossible to get or didnt run on windows 64 bit.
Granite is just awesome! Wish I could like granulator but that gui/color is just awful, hard to believe its a version 2.
Thx for the info
Man that Biotek one seemed really cool :( too bad it doesn't quite work
it works great, its the dumbass white noise blast the demo does
@@RedMeansRecording yeah it's terrible isn't it - had the same issue with Pulsar900. I think a reduce feature demo is much better - or if you are going to use a watermark - the loopcloud style bird chirps are a much better
I wish I could do this stuff, but I have MPK and cannot figure out how it functions (when it even decides to).
💪
if you guys wanna see how razy grainular can get you should check out Little Snake!!!!!
Hi Jeremy, which Ableton skin are you using in this set up?
One of the default presets
What do you think about The Mangle?
