Seeing these two kits side by side reminds me of an A+ student and a C- minus student at graduation. They both get the job done but one was obviously way ahead of the other. Great video!!
Good video! I appreciate the ideas on the conversion. I have already done the 71 Demon, 76 Dart Sport and three Dusters. So I just ordered the 71 Duster and 71 Demon again, to try this conversion. 😎👍
Thanks. You have a nice collection of A bodies there. I've seen that dart for years and for some reason I never picked it up. Now's a good time to get one. The stock 340 duster makes a great donor kit if you want the demon to be a factory car
Excellent work swapping out the Duster chassis! I plan to do this on mine also and seeing your work helps a lot! Thank you! Two things I noticed on the body of mine are the weak body lines on the rear quarter panels especially on the drivers side and the silly looking ridge in the center of the hood. Demons and Darts only had two ridges on the hood and only a very small crease in the center that was barely noticeable. Please research this and comment on it in your next video on this project!
I did look into it and the demon did have a center ridge. Not as pronounced as the dart sport hood but it's there. I see what you're saying about the side crease. It kinda fades between the door and wheelhouse but is stronger after the wheelhouse. Not a dealbreaker though
Right on brother man, I can dig that! You the MOPAR cat, so I’m sure you’ll get it right or at least Damn close to right and it’ll look bad as hell, no doubt! 🤟🏻🤙🏻✌🏻
I had planned using the Duster kit when I build a Demon based upon the first review I saw of the Demon kit. The chassis of the Demon just sucks. No other way to describe it. You make some good points on building a Demon with a Duster kit. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks Mike. You are right about the floorpan. It's lackluster from front to back and pretty much the same as the volare road runner, even the rear axle. I suspect duster sales went up when we finally got the demon
For me it was a big settback that they didnt put the duster chassis ans engine bay into the Demon Kit!i guess they want to sell more Dusters!😉Just have the same kits for modding them together on my workbench!BTW the reason why the Duster is such a good kit is it was designed under the hands of RC2!In this time "AMT" put out a couple of very good new kits!Like round 2 is doing it with the 21 Charger, the Bronco and a couple others! But their "new tools" of old kits are leaving a couple of things to the wishlist! And btw,the Duster is not a pro street, its a street machine!😊
It wouldn't be an mpc if it had more realistic parts now would it. As for the duster I'm using it says pro street duster right on the box. Not that it really matters
@@fubarmodelyard1392 Ah!I have the same Duster kit with the same engine and rims and its the AMT/ERTL 8334 and it has written Street Machine on it!😂And yeah youre right about MPC🙃
I'm using a 71 Duster to build an MPC 69 Barracuda as an SCCA A/Sedan road racer. If I get a Demon, it will also get a Duster chassis. I AM building a Duster. Might use a Duster chassis under an original Hemi Under Glass bodyshell. The chassis for that got wasted in an earthquake in 1971. I could never bring myself to put a crappy 69 Barracuda chassis under it. PS: I wish Round 2 AMT would pack their 66 Mustang coupe and 2+2 and Falcon kits with the chassis, engine, engine bay from the 67 Mustang kits.
Wish I knew what color mine was 72 Bright blue I guess Half striped just sides No scoops 3 speed 340 360 heads Thermoquad Rally wheels Factory Never saw another one like it Cragars suck Sometimes you wonder Why Almost would have been better on the Barracuda and the Demon if they just put the duster parts in the box I had a bench seat Back of them front wheel wells are tight Glad to hear your opinion Respect
Ha. While it's still an mpc lacking in accuracy it fits together surprisingly well. Clear lights and separated glass is kinda shocking. If you don't open the hood or look underneath it's adequate for a shelf. But the hood scoops and rear wing screams mpc
Benny ... what do ya think about ...The Fuzz Duster kit , to pick through , it has some weird stuff in it ... I don't wanna pick through my 340 duster either . Love your videos .. im the guy in Detroit ya sent The Talledga kit to , for almost winning your contest , a while back . Howdy from Southwest Detroit
Hey Eric. You jarred my memory with that Talladega kit. I think that kit is pretty much the same as the 80 road runner with some extra parts in it. The floorplan isn't any better and the front suspension is totally different. The aspen/volare had transverse torsion bars. Would be interesting to see how you build the demon with volare parts
I am planning on the same project in the future , Thanks for the tips ! I have the stock Duster rather than the street machine version . Maybe I am wrong , but did'nt the street machine version have a V-10 Viper motor ? the exhaust ports looked correct bit it looks like it has 10 rocker arms in the head . 2 valves per cylinder x 5 cylinders each side .
It's a good thing there's valve covers because I counted 11 rockers. On each side. 4 exhaust and 7 intake. Since the exhaust manifolds are 4 hole early 340 and there's an indent for 4 spark plugs, and the transmission resembles an A-833 I'm calling it a 340

That isnt completely right! And it doesnt have anything to do with that they could have udsed the Duster parts for the Demon!there would have been only minor changes to the chassis pan and the engine bay to fit!For me they were lazy!

Thanks Ed. That's a good analogy between a good kit and so so kit. Put them together though and get something great
Really enjoyed listening to your thinking on modifying this kit brother. Also learned a lot about cars as always from you.👏👏👏👏👍👍😉

This was great. Benny! The detail you went into really helped me figure out how I would want to build one of mine! Thanks for sharing, my friend.
Thanks Bryan. It's a blueprint to build on
Well done!!! That's gonna be awesome!! Love that car!!!
Thanks Oron
Great update 👍🏿
Excellent video Benny. Always learning something from you and about cars because I am horrid at cars lol

Thanks brother. Basin street blue maybe. The car sounds awesome
Maybe they'll put out a version with front suspension/steering in another 50 years. I'll have to be sure I'm still around.
Maybe by then amt will tool one up
Can't believe I heard ya say not bad for MPC....A sad day. Hug Kyle for me.

I've got an AMT '71 Duster I am building. I took the engine and tires out of a Top Fuel dragster kit and am building a Pro Mod.
Cool. I'll check it out
That will look a lot better Benny
Hope so Tom. Thanks

some good bashing going on there Benny

Looks like Round2 didn't correct much on the Demon. What a shame. I also was patiently waiting for this kit.
Don't let the minor bugs stop you from getting one. They really did improve the kit
Oh they did a couple of great changes that makes the kits much better then the original!get one its great,except.......😉
