Top 25 Hip Hop Song!! #DJPremier 🐐
Real hip hop
I was thinking the same thing
Mos def- black on both sides one of the best hip hop albums of all time
Young bosses...when you open up the Mos Def box, you are entering into an entire world of hip hop artistry that only a chosen few have the right to be placed. This song...the layers to it are still light years ahead of the majority of "artists" out here. The storytelling factor is mind blowing and the sample is brilliant. But this who Mos is. Do yourself a favor and delve into the Blackstar era with Talib Kweli, Hi Tech, De La...all of the greats in this genre....Your life will never be the same.
This comment right here!!! Exactly!
The Definition- Mos Def and Talib Kweli is quintessential HipHop in its purest form. One of my favorite songs/music videos of all time.
Redefinition is another banger and is where Mos Def snaps hard!!!
Mos Def is lyrically inclined and one of the best at it!!! He's a Goat, respect it!!!!!
Mos Def best movie is DEFINITELY Something The Lord Made where he plays doctor Vivian Thomas.
WAY under the radar. Props to bringing that up.
Thank u 💯👏🏾💐
Agree with this wholeheartedly!
I wish he acted more. Beautiful movie.
By far his best role
I absolutely love this song. Story telling at its finest!
Brooklyn, All Day-Every Day!
You gotta do Mathematics, New World Water, and Hip Hop
You forgot Mr. N*gga
I'm gonna put this album in my hip-hop top 10. I'm of that era, was in 10th grade at the time. We were spoiled for choice with great rappers but this is a complete project on the highest level. Umi Says was the vibey hit for the earthy types, Mathematics had the message and the DJ Premier beat, and May-December is an incredible instrumental track. Jazz legend Weldon Irvine contributed to the production as well.
"Mos Def - Brown Sugar" is pretty dope, but "The Blackstar" stuff is crazy..... Them Hi-Tek beats are wild......
Y'all should react to Dead Prez - Hip-Hop
It's a classic song, it was used in Chapelle Show as the intro, and it has the absolute nastiest beat ever put to tape
The entire album is AMAZING. I'm glad y'all enjoyed my favorite rapper.
Whole album is a Banger
The hold album is dope another wave of Brooklyn NY hip hop in the 90s it was the best!
Mos def in a movie called something the lord made me is his best role crazy good movie
One of the best most complete albums ever! Mos Def is a legend
Instant Classic when this came out. Still a banger.
Mos Def & Talib Kweli - "Definition" will make you scream Lord Have Mercy!!
Yall need to watch the movie 'Something the Lord Made'. That is REALLY his best role. Dude is an incredible actor. I don't know why he hasn't been in anything recent.
Yo I still bump this. It was cool to see yall hear it for the first time. Yo you gatta to find the blend him and Aretha doing this
Only my fav emcee to ever touch the mic. Yasiin Mos Def Bey!🙌🏾
He was in a true story a bout a black man at a university that had great surgical hands and didn't get credit until he was old
The Aretha Franklin song is One Step Ahead and this song resurrected interest in it. There's actually a live performance from the 60s on UA-cam. It also runs for a minute or so in the movie Moonlight.
I played the breaks off this cd, Black On Both Sides, and Ms. Fat Booty was the lead-off single. Ran it with Blackstar.
Yo, "Black on Both Sides" was my vote for hip hop album of the year in '99. Y'all gotta react to the rest of this joint! "Mathematics", "New World Water", "Speed Law"... Damn, just react to the whole album!
My fave Mos Def song. Check out "Oh No" - Mos Def, Pharaoh Monche, and Nate Dogg. Also, Definition by Blackstar, which is Mos Def and Talib Kweli.
This track is just pure
Superb reaction 👍 and he is definitely one of the Goats.
Off now to check if you've done Speed Law. Love how this hit you. I thought you guys couldn't possibly have not heard this but reaction seemed legit. Nice work.
Mos Def is one of the best rappers turned actor. He was in hitchhikers guide to the galaxy. A sci-fi cult classic. It had nothing to do with rap culture like most rapper/actors.
My mom use to play One Step by Aretha Franklin years ago, l heard this sampled and was instantly stuck on this joint
Video is so dope with simplistic class
Yeah, JID used it in Surround Sound and it went viral when XG member Cocona rapped on it on Galz Xypher
This reaction was smooth operator. Instant sub. Glorious!
The beautiful thing about early hip hop is that there were all types of rappers, styles, and subject matter, and many of us loved it all. The idea that rap ain't rap if it's not gangster (even if some of the best is) is just not true. It's all good really, but skillful wordplay should always deserve some type of recognition.
Way before Hip-Hop morphed to Hit-Pop. Beat nasty as Shaq's feet. Mos definitely with verses wicked as three sixes. Still bump on this ruckus. Bass grim reaper how it murders my car speakers. #BeastOfTheEast #ElDjangoFlaco
Also check out Mos Def in the movie Italian Job
About the Aretha Frankin sample - as a condition of using the song, she mandated no cursin'.
Here’s a sleeper…
Poor Righteous Teachers ft KRS One. “Conscious Style”
Wise Intelligence is just another example of how deep the 90’s was with talented MC’s
Ok we live... Good Shit... SALUTE
I'm from that time I never liked this artist, and I'm not into relationships songs, but to this day, this is one of my favorites... good music will always be good and relatable will always be relatable
One of my favorite songs by him. Listen to the whole Black Star...Mos Def Talib Kwali and Common
Another great story Kool G Rap, on the run

Talib, Black thought, Mos Def and I wanna say Pharoh Monche.....Whirlwind Pyramid....on Talib album produced by Kanye......Brilliant!!
I just found you guys recently and been watching all the old school hip-hop ya'll been reviewing.. I dig the channel & since I'm from NYC and grew up in that era of Hip-Hop I thought to give ya'll some direction. So, Mos Def is a top 10 MC of all-time.. (even tho his catalog is small but that's how great he is) but you need to check out his first album with Talib Kweli as the group Black Star. Unbelievable chemistry between them & since you like the creativity from him, it really hits on that album. Whole album is dope.. and the beats go hard.. but if I have to pick one song from it for ya'll to review, go with "Definition" but I want you to play "Re:Definition" with it bc they mix into each other. P.S. I think you might recognize the sample from another MC you go hard for... Peace
I'm convinced that this is one of the BEST rap songs ever made. I thought that I was down with rap, but this one escaped my notice for a long time. I have to believe that it was a victim of censorship somehow. First off, I LOVE Aretha Franklin, so there's that. Secondly, I don't know much about Mos as a person, but the song itself seems good-natured to me. Yes, he's from the streets, and he has a myopic way of looking at things. But the story itself is just about a lonely guy looking for a woman to spend time with-and he gets fooled by someone who's a little tricky. There's no violence. And he expressed himself pretty well, without relying on the shock value of profanity-an overused gimmick (in my opinion). How can anyone deny that this is tight?
I used to ware this album out
Mos Def is top 5
Speed Law off the same album is amazing. Actually the next song after Ms. Fat Booty. A 🔥back to back
: After this, yeah Most Definitely.

You talking about jid- surround sound. And he definitely did the beat justice as well

If you listen to Black on Both Sides you'll hear Mr. Ni##@ which is a great song to react to, but outside of that album I'd suggest Travelin' Man

Yasiin is a Sunni Muslim though, not a Hebrew Israelite. He's been Muslim his whole career. You can tell he has some teachings from the Moorish Science Temple in some of his music too though.
Do more from the greatest to ever touch the mic Nas. Do nas memory lane and nas take it in blood.
I suggest Hip Hop, or New world water, or mathematics or Marvelous Time, or Priority from Mighty Mos Def. Peace 🙏
Check out the movie The Italian Job

Mos Def is a Rap GOD. Black on Both Side is a CLASSIC album straight fire and he dropped plenty more. including one of the most beautiful HipHop songs ever made UMI SAYS ua-cam.com/video/vntLKOd9saI/v-deo.html ...you also have to listen to -- WHAT'S BEEF it's hard AF and make sure you REACT to his original CLASSIC solo version ua-cam.com/video/q8Fl2Vlrqi8/v-deo.html even tho Mos did a LIVE version with Talib Kweli as the group Black Star that is also a Classic -- maybe do both back two back? do the Live version then the solo version -- it's worth it believe me.
