Always with Lyrics. Real Talk
Civil rights act passed in congress (64)
Malcolm X (65)
Black panthers founded (66)
Want more info on King and Vietnam? Look up his "3 evils of society" speech (67) Almost like he and the Panthers thought the CRA was barely more than a band-aid....his shot came in 68
Spoken verse is a direct excerpt of a memo from the desk of hoover, founder of fbi. (Also 68)
Fred Hampton and Mark Clark (69)
The 70s was the so called "post civil rights movement" which saw the supreme court uphold integration. (Much the ssame way they upheld abortion rights in Roe v Wade, so not permanently) and the executive branch created "black history week". (Which reminds me of getting promoted to a new title without a raise). Which Carter woodson made it into a whole month (the short one when everbody is hungry for spring)
70s also saw Nixon start the "War on Drugs"
The 80s saw the dissolution of the BPP. Reagan cut funding to EOC, and tried to eliminate the civil rights commission and affirmative action. As well as trickle down economics and doubling down on the drug war. (Or how to destroy, exploit, and profit off the slums in 5 easy steps)
90s saw rodney king and the battle of LA
2020 saw george Floyd
2021!!!
2 "protests" happened in 2021.
One was the BLM rally in response to George Floyd, which got a police response similar to the LA "riots".
The other was a bunch of rednecks storming the Capitol building with confederate flags, which got a police response similar to an underage party.
Frank E. Tyson died 11 days ago(April 18, 2024) in ohio, saying i can't breathe, with a cop on his neck......just like Floyd
The fight never ended. The weapons got harder to see, and the allies harder to rouse.
Amazing summary
damn good job putting it all down
The Black Panther Party was founded in 1966 🙂
This song is more relevant than ever before.
The tragedy is that it still is as relevant.
Absolutely, another song exactly like this. Is rich man’s world. Immortal technique. They took it off UA-cam so many times over the years. Look it up though 💯
Closing song in The Matrix.
How I discovered them 😅
Zack is still screaming! Here’s a clip of Wake Up in 2022, he’s still got it, even while sitting down. He tore his Achilles on the second night of the tour, and kept playing until doctors ordered him to stay off of it.

100% that debut album is perfect from front to back. It's still my favorite album by them.
Pouring through the lyrics, finding things I didn't understand, and then looking them up for historical context is one of my favorite things to do with music.
The lyrics for this album provided a ton of homework and opened my mind as a kid. Once you start digging, your perspective changes. The FBI has never been our friend.
Look no further than Fred Hampton.
Been getting the chills listening to these guys for the last 33 years!
"I came here to kick ass and chew bubblegum... and I'm all out of bubblegum."
Whether black or white, we've been united in the battle against the system for generations!
I heard this album when it came out in my first year of University, studying political science. I still haven’t sold out.
RATM, first they shake your ass & then they shake your mind! I’ve seen these brothers live 4 times across two countries…every time it was absolutely insane!!!
Be well ♥️✊🏿
Really liked your “They Live” and football analogies. That’s right, it toughens you up. I had an ex-girlfriend who listened to RATM before class in school. She said after she and her friends played their album, “Nobody could fuck with us.”
Facts!! They teach through their music. It’s like a history lesson, with so much power and beauty of the sound. This track is my absolute favourite cuz there’s just so many layers. It’s sonically perfect, and then you add Zach’s lyrics and meaning and your mind is totally blown.
I'm really glad this was highly requested here!! One of my favorite rage songs!! Ending credits of the matrix, on the soundtrack for it, one of many great movies soundtracks, if not one of the best!! But... Damn do I love this song!!!! Tom goes off on this!!!
Nice reference with "They Live" :)
He says "Hoover he was a body remover". He was talking about j Edgar Hoover who was the head of the FBI and who was pretty overtly trying to snuff out the black population in america. Angela Davis was affiliated with the Black Panthers and is famously one of the people that he tried but failed and she became a voice of generations.
Some of the beats reminds me of Led Zep's Kashmir. This is an awesome song. Love RATM!!!
I always thought that! The progressive riff at the start sounds heap's like Kashmir
the intro is definitely inspired by Zep, pretty much exactly the same
Now you guys are killing the vibes of the song by saying this, you all should listen whole song
Let's go 404!! There is a lot to unpack with Rage.
Zack has a line “ the billboard says come and play , forget about the movement” that to me is his best line.
"They Live" is a must watch. Probably more factual than fictional. Roddy Piper (Nada) trying to get Kieth David (Frank) to wear the sunglasses and the VERY lengthy fight that followed represents how hard it is to get somebody to "Wake Up".
Real talk. My favorite scene
Zack drops real knowledge!✊🏼
They Live reference too!!
This song is based on a true story🔥
One of the many reasons The Matrix was so awesome. . . . Closing credits, wake tf up
RATM 30 years on lyrics hit as true now as they did then 🤘🏼
✊🏼 ✊ ✊🏿 ✊🏽 ✊🏾 ❤️
I heard many great bands... including metallic a, iron maiden and many more but R.A.T.M hits different completely... f***kng genius... still hit hard
This song is played at the end of the first Matrix movie.
I’m an old man been around….Zach is maybe the the most underrated rapper. I believe he’s top 3 all time including hip hop just me.
Listen to the man. Was going harder than any rapper and this in the 90s
the fastestlike in history. respect
They bit that riff off of Zeppelin
There were also social uprisings in IL, CA, and OH in '66. Google AI says the reference is to 66AD uprising against the Roman empire...but you don't need to look that far back for examples of raging against the machine :)
Kick to the face 😂❤
Rage against the Machine woke this white danish guy up back in 93 as a 13y/o
I learned more about American History from them than I ever did at school.
The intro kinda reminds me of a trance coming out of a dream before waking up.
I like any genre of music (except country) from any era and RATM's debut album is one of the best.
They live 😎😎
"Wake uuuppppp" oh yeah real good lyrics
Like and subscribe, peace
ALWAYS have the lyrics✌️
YUP 👍, - THE MATRIX 🎥 ENDING 😂 !
Both times you paused on "he turned the power to the have-nots / and then came the shot"
He said it once after Martin, and once after Malcom
Wish you coulda heard it, but I get it, Zach has a lot to say and you gotta pause somewhere, you're inevitably gonna step on something.
You gotta do another reaction with lyrics!
Matrix theme song.
This band is more relevant than ever.
Always reminds me of the matrix or terminator
Maria!❤
Definitely inspired by Kashmir by Led Zeppelin
"Because people are so damn sleep out here" and a lots of them claim to be WOKE, the irony.
Tom Morello is sick on the guitar as always, crazy MF
It’s on The Matrix
Eric Cantona was born in '66.
Zack is the real deal, brother.
Back in the 90's we were woke before woke was a word that was used in a negative context by the new racists.
The two guys they framed for killing X just got acquitted a couple years ago
He [King] could be a real contender for this position [ of ‘black messiah’] should he abandon his supposed ‘obedience’ to ‘white liberal doctrines’ (non-violence) and embrace black nationalism.
…
Through counter-intelligence it should be possible to
pinpoint potential trouble-makers and neutralize them…
FBI - COINTELPRO March 1968
MLK Assassination - April 4th 1968
I'm not saying they did it... but they definitely read his obituary with great enthusiasm.
/They did it.
it was on the godzilla soundtrack
zach and tom and the boys tried pretty fucking hard though, no? not totally shameful that he's not the force he once was. time waits for no man and we all get torn down sadly.
England win the world cup in 66. 😊
That riff is Kashmir by Led Zeppelin
And what about the whole track dude
J edgar
i was like #420 lol
Yo! Check out Down Rodeo if you haven't already.
And the Vietnam war.
Martin l king
Zombies out here fr
don finna be the one to point it out but nobody in ukraine slept well in two and half years. as long as we pulling up wordl events. ps: 66 refers to the green book
Almost 3:30 minutes of intro babbling. Then no video and no lyrics? Not an enjoyable reaction video.
1992 - the most Woke music you'll ever hear.
You pause at the worst fucking times. lol
Hey dum dum, read the lyrics. Rage is purpose built. You miss a line, you miss the song.
