I wrote a song for my father in hopes it would give him a thrill After seeing… Brazil. My father’s music came through me but never got to me until I went down to… Brazil. In Rio all day long, I heard my father’s song, that Bossa Nova beat… so sweet. I heard the real Bossa Nova but never got over the thrill when I went to… Brazil. No other people you meet play guitar with the beat and the skill as they do in… Brazil. That Portuguese swing is such a subtle thing, it makes you sway against… your will.
The lyrics were written by Horace Silver who I had the pleasure to meet in 1998. What’s the doubt about? Anybody who truly knows Horace wouldn’t be tripping on this question.
This little song for my father Does things that no other Can do As I sing it to you It has a rhythm and rhyme That will fasten his memory In time As his beauty shines through For through my mind and soul My heart will always hold A special place for him It's true We bow our heads and we pray Every day's Father's Day Let's review All that he means to you Our mother's love is real nice But old Dad sacrificed For us too Let us give him his due
BTW: the lyrics are on DeeDee Bridgewater's Horace Silver CD "Love and Peace". On the cover it says that words and music are by Horace Silver, but I am not sure about that. Anyway, DeeDees rendition of this tune is my benchmark so all other interpretations certainly have a hard time :)
That is correct. Horace describes in his autobiography writing the lyrics in a rush while on tour after Dee Dee Bridgewater had proposed her tribute album Love and Peace to him. As transcribed by Ambra above.

Bit harsh guys...she can sing for sure...maybe you are hearing weaknesses but nothing is perfect...and unlike instruments where you hit it and get the notes the voice is challenging...pretty harsh and negative and unnecessary......maybe you guys can post your performances for us to see...also maybe she put the band together...so it is her band??...
Amazing voice, great performance!
Lovely.. Great tribute to Horace❤

the original one is incredible, but this cover is another level
Nothing beats the original piano solo, in my opinion ofc
In addition to being talented, the singer is stunningly beautiful. Afro-Latina I'd wager.
Absolutley brilliant
Great redition!
Credit to band👍
Very nicely done
Thanks a lot Tim❤️❤️❤️
Lyrics?? Really?? Go Chacka!!
Nice 👍! All of you
Our band is also covering this music, the pianist gave me a lot of inspiration, thanks for sharing such a great cover!!!
I like the Afrocuban ending :) That's when I really started liking the singer.
Hahahahaha I agree with you...I felt so insicure on that tune...I hope that now after six years I'm better 😁😁😁
Very nice!
If u liked, was me...
Wow this is an awesome cover :) Good job all :)

14:21 In the game, I knocked it all out. But I fell for you.
Who is singing ?
Me if you liked... I don't like this performance anymore 😅
@@simonaboo6121 I think you are very good! Bravo! 😃🎵
Intro still reminds me of Steely Dan, love this standard.
Vice versa. Stealy Dan were stealin it. Check out the release date for the song by Horace Silver. Some time in the early 60s.
I think I'm in love.... 🤤
Lol
I understand, the slower vocal, it's weighted-down subtlety, but, that's so weighty, it's lagging behind - out of breath. She's not a ticket, sorry.
Yes you right...six years ago I was just starting studying jazz and jazz standards. Challenging my self ❤️
@@simonaboo6121 I just permanently listen to ROBERT GLASPER- THE WORST (Live At Capitol Studios) 🤣🤣👍👍👍be well 🙏🏻

Pas la meilleure interprétation mais tout de même agreable
I can't believe they think she's good enough for this band. She can't even sing the theme correctly.
Mister Yoda aw 😞
Are they Italian? Very nice.
