Over the past twenty years, the number of online testimonies describing encounters with phantom children have increased exponentially. Who are these nocturnal visitors? And what exactly is it that they want from those whom they unexpectedly approach? In this episode, we examine the phenomenon of the Black-Eyed Children.

In this reprise of one of our earliest episodes, we present a whole new transcript, updated visuals, plus a few extra accounts of encounters with black-eyed children. And, no, Mikey didn't mean to draw the likeness of a famous movie director into the episode, but there we are. It would be interesting to see if you guys can tell who it is (or just skip to the outtake at the end!)

my friend loves telling her reverse black eyes kids story. this was a few years ago, pre-pandemic. she had gotten some form of surgery on her eyes. I don't remember what exactly, but they had cut a layer off her eye for some reason or another, and it caused her eyes to irregularly dilate. to the point where her pupils were basically like 90% of her eyes. she had to wear eye covers for almost a full year, but she'd have to take them off for a few hours every day.
anyways, one of the times she had her covers off, a pair of girl guides came to the door selling cookies. she answered, but didn't make direct eye contact. until she bent down to hand them money. that's when the girls saw her totally black eyes and ran away screaming.
their parents were just down the hall and my friend managed to explain that she wasn't possessed by a demon. but I ALWAYS remember this when I hear stories of black eyed children hahaha

Just an explanation. The surgery is meant to prevent your friend from going blind. They take the foggy layer off from your eyes so that you can see.

Sounds like LASIK or so. I know there's a form of eye surgery to correct vision to 20/20 that involves slicing the very top layer of the eye open to get at the retina.

That 1st story misses the point. The stories usually described close calls where they eventually denied the BEK access. The idea being that no one ever hears from the people who let them in. • @unterdessen8822
      @unterdessen8822 Рік тому +22

I've listened to one, that I've been trying to find again since. I was almost at a point where I thought I'd misremembered it or somehow made it up in my mind, but it was mentioned in READY TO GLARE's video about BEKs, so at least someone else has seen the same video (or maybe read the same reddit or 4chan post). They just didn't cover it to its full extent.
As far as I remember it, the story goes like this: A drunk guy picks up a woman at a bar, goes home with her and they have sex. He wakes up the next morning to a rotting corpse next to him and the apartment is swarming with BEKs. He freaks out and tries to escape, when the kids suggest to him, that the woman was their caretaker and they reanimated her corpse to lure in a new caretaker (= him).
His only option is a 7th floor window, that he has to break to get out. He jumps, breaks an ankle and is cut up by the glass pretty badly, so he's just squirming there on the ground in a somewhat abandoned industrial area (like the apartment was one of those pseudo-fancy meat-packing district "lofts", that were marketed heavily for a while in bigger cities).
It took hours for an elderly lady to walk by and call an ambulance for him, but until then he could barely move and was aware, that the kids were watching him coldly through the windows. He had this very clear instinct, that only the sunlight was preventing them from coming after him, and was horrified by the idea, that he might not be found and they'd crawl down the red brick walls in spider-like fashion to get him, as soon as the sun started to set.
When he was found, he asked for the police to be sent to the apartment, and they went there while he was in the hospital. They found the corpse in an otherwise empty apartment, that had obviously been abandoned for a long time. They knew he couldn't have had anything to do with the woman's death due to the state she was in, but he got into trouble for necrophilia, because they checked both his and her parts after he had told them about the previous night's sex adventure... and they were able to determine that he'd had sex with that very maggot-ridden body.
It was a fascinatingly well-written story. The author kept up the suspense throughout, and from the point when the guy woke up in the apartment to him being saved from an even darker fate by the elderly lady I had to remind myself to breathe, because the tension was almost unbearable. I'm pretty sure it was a work of fiction, but it fits so well into the lore.
I guess it does always mean you're going to die when you let them in, but if you're a guest and manage to run, you might get away with severe physical and mental scars.

I had an experience of BEKs on a boat when I was overnight alone on the family 36’ sailboat in port.
They don’t always knock but rather follow the accepted custom of the area or home type. It’s considered extreme rudeness to knock on or enter or look in windows of a boat where someone is living on it. Instead, you should stop on their bit of dock, like a house driveway, and clearly ask “permission to come aboard?”
That’s what these kids did. Small, pale, about 10 and 6, dark eyes. I wanted to let them in, but knew I should not. Got instant bad vibes. These kids were…off.
I generally avoid eye contact and didn’t want to see what I feared. And I knew to never let anyone unfamiliar in.
So I climbed up to the deck, even though I was almost shitting myself in fear, grabbed a kayak paddle from the cockpit, brandished it, and yelled, “No! Go away!” While holding it like a bat.

I find it pretty interesting from a psychological and anthropological standpoint that different cultures sometimes have similar entities or fears. It shows we all fear the same things, possibly for evolutionary reasons. I think the reason that the all-black eyes are unsettling to us is the uncanny valley aspect. They otherwise appear to be a normal person, but something small about them is off and so we do not trust them. We also rely on eyes to give us more information about someone's intent, and if you cannot see the pupil, you have fewer indications of what this thing wants from you. I'm not normally interested in stuff like BEKs but the cultural and folkloric context is really interesting. I had no idea how far back the trope went. It reminds of of that old movie Village of the Damned, as IIRC those kids also had the power to make people do things against their will. Thank you!

I guess it’s the next night shift encounters episode after this. Maybe scary encounters occur mostly at night because the fear of the dark we grew up with and initially thought left as we grew older, never truly left us.

First off, I love your channel! Been watching your videos for a long time, and finally got around to subscribing finally. Second, one of the things I like best about your channel is that you usually try to provide as many different theories as possible, as well as ideas that could possibly debunk certain phenomena. Too many believers seem to just want to blindly believe, without putting much thought into mundane explanations. While I do tend to believe in certain aspects of the supernatural, having experienced odd things of my own that I can't explain, I also tend to think that 95% of the stuff is hooey. Anyhoo, love the narration, the story-telling, the artwork, the sound design. Really good stuff guys! Keep it up :)
