An unexpected day in Jagatsukh | Story of a Mumbai girl living in the Himalayas

- I headed to Jagatsukh- the ancient capital of Kullu located just 8 km from Manali- to meet my local friend Divya who was going to show me around. But the day had something better planned for me. Divya's house and the conversations that followed about her moving to the mountains many years ago had me fascinated, and if I might add, inspired.

She seems to understand that only a few things are important & necessary for life :
1.Good health
2. Peace of mind
3. A decent roof over your head
4. Simple food
5. And good sleep
Everything else is just luxury which we could live without.
AND being surrounded by nature :)

This girl has achieved Nirvana in its true sense. She broke her inhibitions, rose above her fears, her insecurities she knows exactly what she wants and how much she wants. She does not neither believe in a fake pretentious life nor lives it. She is real in every sense, be it her lifestyle, her decisions, her priorities. She is a true monk without the robes !!
This is how humans are supposed to live- be one with oneself and be one with ones surroundings accepting what comes to you naturally. no greed, no ego, no fear equals to no sickness no stress and healthy life of both mind and body.

@@drswatin you can do it tomorrow if you wish. Honestly if you think deeply you dont need much to live a peaceful life. a decent house, basic facilities like water and washroom and if you are lucky get a small piece of land attached with the house to grow your own food. If you are smart and resourceful you can do a lot from home, write a book, teach online or make youtube videos by exploring small villages, their customs, foods, rituals. A lifetime is not enough even to cover just India.

I live in Shimla. Himachal is heavenly, and locals gentle folks. Youngsters like drinking during weddings etc, but they dance and sing loudly thereafter and do not fight. Life has a smooth, slow pace. Rarely will Himachali talk or discuss about money or compare how much you earn. We are simple satisfied peaceful loving people. She can live her entire life here alone without any fear of anyone harming her in any way. Be happy and content. Blessings.

This girl has already achieved what very few people can. She has reached a state of nirvana which is to essentially dissociate yourself from worldly possessions, live a life of contentment and be at one with nature. It takes courage and guts to break away from the norm and the mainstream and do something that your heart truly desires. Living solo in a village so far away from home is not for the faint of heart.
Many people dream about this life but the fear of the unknown always prevents them from doing anything about it. Most people are afraid how they will make ends meet in a place like this but they don't realize that it takes very little money to live off the land and survive. Nature provides everything we need if you are ready to bend your back a little. Only thing nature cannot provide is man made luxuries.
I am so glad that her family has accepted her decision and lifestyle. Most parents just want to see their kids run after money and participate in the rat race because they equate money and job to social status and success. Happiness is a forgotten concept. It's almost as if we were born to work for someone, chase targets day in day out and provide for the family without any questions asked. The path that our life will take has already been decided by them even before we were born and to deviate from that is seen as a grave offense.
All my best wishes are with her! May she continue to live this peaceful life and hopefully this UA-cam exposure won't bring unwanted guests at her place.

A content life is more rewarding than a happy life just as Miss Divya in the video said, "happiness is like high tide and low tide". Very true! Humans expect happiness at every corner of life. In reality, life cannot be exciting, adventurous, thrilling, or hep and happening all the time. Of course, sometimes life is like that, but when it doesn't happen like that, humans believe life is so boring or unhappy! Being able to get over this high and low tide to simply be content; That's priceless!

Having trekked and climbed in the Himalaya in the 1980s and 1990s, Himachal Pradesh remains one of my top choices and has provided me with tons of adventures and happy memories. Mere pass kuch 50 pic hai abhi December mai land purchase ki hai Kullu valley mai or wo zannat hai wo . Divya has her thoughts completely sorted it seems from the outside, but sometimes there is that twinkle of doubt in her eyes and her expressions of whether she's really doing what she wants. I hope with time, she will evolve beyond that doubt and finally find true contentment in the life she has chosen. At least, this is a life she has chosen and not had it thrust upon her. That is her biggest contentment.
It wasn't doubt. there is an editing break. There was obviously some traumatic memory she remembered and didn't wish to share. Other than that she is working obviously and returns occasionally no doubt.
I loved watching this video. I had no idea that Divya had been living in Jagatsukh. Seems like such an amazing place.
So many take aways from what Divya said. We will get where we have to get. And allowing the day to plan things for you. Also the futility of bagging that Cannes award. I had actually wanted to get into advertising initially. Now I feel I am glad that it didn't happen for me.

If you are worthy every thing will be possible.
It's easy. Once you decide everything falls in place. Our basic nature is be natural so it's not difficult to adapt. What Divya has done is to listen to herself. She knew she doesn't belong to concrete jungles but to the natural jungle far away in Himalayas. I can perfectly understand because I bong to Sirmaur district of Himachal. It's beautiful to live a natural life in a natural environment. My best wishes to Divya and all others who aspire to live such a life.

I was born in Himachal Pradesh. It's really beautiful. Right now I am in Sikkim but I still miss my childhood days in Dharmsala, kulu kangra and Palampur.
