I like the Kalour (or the standard pencil of these 4 brands). I even like that red tin with the giraffe/deer? for storage. I just think its terrible that people are wasting their money buying repeat sets of the same pencils. Hopefully, enough people notice and simply pick up the one that has the best price.
It’s important as a consumer to understand how “white-labeling” works. It’s not illegal. A manufacturer can create a product and multiple companies can buy the rights to rebrand it with their own name and sell it as their own. That’s clearly what is happening in the pencil world right now, because pencils are obviously popular! So there’s nothing wrong with collecting pencils, or getting a good bargain, but definitely do your research first so you don’t end up with duplicates. Or take the risk, but them, and just enjoy them, at the risk that some might be duplicates or not the best quality.
Im just looking for something a step up from crayolas , that blend easy with wide colors. I don't get paid for my art so I can't imagine a huge buy like those luminance pencils everyone likes. Yes beautiful but to high end for me
Don't hate me but why, as colorists, do we keep buying more pencils? When do you stop & be satisfied with what you have? I'm feeling the pressure to buy the Polish pencils everyone is talking about. I just bought the Monarch set & honestly, I was disappointed. They are lovely in the tin but waxy & not vibrant as they would seem. I have Prismacolors from many years ago & then got the very expensive Polychromos which I still feel guilt about. Next come the Lyra & Irotijen which are my favorites. Why do I need more? I had to stop watching coloring videos which convinced me I needed the next new thing. Not proud of myself I got the June Gold AND the refills. It's absolutely NUTS! If I was just starting out & needed a good, low cost pencil set, then great, I'd need recommendations. But why, why do we keep buying more cheap pencils when we have good quality pencils?! I'm sorry. I just don't get it.
Same with makeup! A few quality products will take you where you need to go if you learn the correct techniques! At that point it's about patience perseverance talent and skill!
‘Cos buying art supplies and using said art supplies... are two TOTALLY different hobbies! I’d say: “Oh well, at least it’s cheaper than a drug habit”.... but I don’t think it is in the long run... and it’s still an addiction ‘cos we jus want MOARRRRRR! 😂😂😂😂
I bought 180 Brutfuners pencils. A few months later I bought Soucolors pencils 180. I opened and said these look exactly like Brutfuners. Well they were. Same color name, same color number, same barrel colors. The only difference was the name Soucolor on bottom of barrel instead of Brutfuners. I thought that was so deceptive. About 3 weeks ago I bought Kalour 180 set. Again it was the same as the Brutfuners and Soucolors, color names, barrels, numbers. Very disheartening but very eye opening to what is happening. Keep up the great work informing us of the practices of these companies/manufacturers.
Thank You so much for this video everyone keeps telling me to buy the Brutfuners & Kalours as their different pencils, BUT my gut was telling me NOT to buy them as something is way too shady. I also wonder too if the reason for the sells was because everyone was getting stimulus checks too. I myself personally HATE Prisma's. I prefer my polys & the Dick Blick's with each other. (As everyone has their preferences). BUT my very MOST fav wax pencils are the Derwent coloursofts & now the Derwent chromaflows.
It's gotten to the point I can hardly wait for your next video. Like a good mystery novel, lol. Anxiously awaiting yours and Andy's, mostly your pencil set. Thks for everything you do. Love you tons!
Everyone is going to get to see it in progress and be able to give opinions and ideas. The video is being filmed now. It's really different than what is out there.
Prismas are now running $130.00 - $153.00 depending on which 150 set you select. The ones that are running at $130.00 are the same ones that were running in the $60.00-$80.00 price range last week. They are sold by different sellers. This is something to always watch out for when shopping for them.
That Norbert pencil box shows a picture of the KUM brand pencil sharpener, which is a good German company which I am sure would not allow their product to be on a cheapo Chinese colored pencil set.
I saw them yesterday at 170. I bought mine in 2017 for 150. I have so many sets of pencils I rarely have to buy a second one. I normally just replace pencils except for Prismas. I am on set number 8.
Omg! You're like the Faber Castel knight on horseback wielding a pencil lance!! 😂 I'm learning so much about colored pencils. Who knew it was like an international spy network? Love you!!
About Prismacolor, the reason for all the different prices is they have to compete with the Chinese imports! Prismacolor is probably hurting in sales so...
On the Amazon site here in Canada, there are side-by-side listings for the 150 set...one is for $155, the other is $195. Which one do you think people are going to buy? Last year, after I had bought my set for around $140, they had them on sale for $100, so I bought another set. It way cheaper to buy that set to use as replacements, than buying replacement pencils.
Wow ! My first pencils were Prismacolors, (the 120 set). Love love love them HOWEVER, wben I had no airconditioning and inside temps were 95+, I coulda just as easily have used paints. Prismas melted fasted than I could use them. Now I have bought Polychromos, (the 120set). Had to go thru the learning curve, but sooo much less money spent than repeatedly buying other pencils just to "try them out", to find out there are problems.
Lori, I think humidity with high temps were probably what Nancy was dealing with, while you are in the desert. I am guessing here, hope this sheds light.
I live in phoenix and I never take the Prismacolors outside for this reason. I only take the cheaper harder pencils outside. I love to color at the park.
This happened in October 2020 with these Prismacolor as well. I purchased this exact listing at that time and it was $69. A week later it went up to $175.
Thank you Lori for the video. All your information on these pencils is really priceless. You help me make good informed decisions. Nobody wants to waste their money.
Thank you so much Lori. I think it's wonderful that you go through all the trouble to find out the truth about colored pencils for us as a coloring community. I was taught a long time ago as a child you get what you pay for. I love all your videos thank you very much for sharing and happy coloring.
Isn't this done all the time? I mean, a manufacturer may be creating the same pencil for many companies and they just change the labeling? Just like Costco rebrands, diapers , shampoos, batteries and etc...
March 30 was National Pencil Day in the States. I figured the Prismas were having a sale to market around that. Lots of pencil vendors had sales last week. Anyway, it was a good deal! And Amazon’s algorithm can change the pricing by the minute, so never get too attached to a price. Looking forward to what your collab with Andy looks like!
Thank you so much! My wife loves to do the same kind of coloring that you do. We don't have a lot of money and I have been wanting to replace her set that had been lost when we moved. This helps me to know what to get her! I am planning on getting her the set you are creating with Andy. I am curious, about when are those coming out? Do you know the price point they will be? Can you suggest the best set I could suprise her with that won't bankrupt us (LOL)?
My N&L pencils came with the Creyart name on them. When I reached out they said it was manufacturing issue but it was their formula. I ended up keeping them but lost trust in their company
Box and pencil images are mocked up for supplier images before the pencils are even made, so they don’t always represent the actual items. That looks like what happened to the N&Ls It also seems like quite a few companies are being duped by the Chinese manufacturers who swap the products and chop and change the pencil ranges willy-nilly. The first Brutfuners I got, from 2018, are wonderful pencils. They’re not the black barrel or the squares or the ones you showed but every set I’ve has since then are not as good. Is that Brutfuner being duped by unscrupulous manufacturers or Brutfuner downgrading the factory they’re buying from?
Thank you for another mind-boggling insightful video! I appreciate your truth telling videos on budget pencils. I love the Deli and Art-N-Fly pencils I've gotten on your recommendations. I've just started working with the Brutfuner 180 and I was pleasantly surprised. They work for the level of coloring I'm at. But I certainly wouldn't want to buy duplicate sets under other names. The only pencil I haven't loved, which you haven't actually fully reviewed is the 120 Brutfuner Square. I know, I'm the odd woman out. But I've colored comparison images side-by-side with the other pencils I mentioned above, and the 120 Squares look duller. So they may be creamer and lay down relatively well, but I like the outcome less. And they just don't feel so great in my hand. Thanks for staying on top of the pencil market for us.
Thank you for this eye opening video Lori ! I am returning my Creyart 120 set because of this as I found all the colors in my Brutfuner 180 (black barrel) set. In my opnion the Brutfuner are a bit higher quality than the Creayart (better wood / thicker barrel/ more colors / better feeling)
I have seen them in several places on Alibaba. I am sure the place the pencils are manufactured is the same and then they are shipped to places that distribute. They are all the same. Once it gets that sticker "Hot Amazon Seller" they end up getting white labeled and you see them on Amazon. They are cheap, have a large amount of unnecessary colors to attract you and sell quickly.
I'm also interested if castel arts are the same or different pencil. As I like a mid to hard core and I've watch reviews saying these are this type of core.
That was really helpful. Thank you. I just ordered the brutfener 180 black barrel set and haven’t received them yet. The water solubility is something I hadn’t even thought was a possibility. Since I seal almost all my pieces that would be a disaster. I think I’ll be returning them and looking for something else. Thanks again ❤
I wonder are they doing same thing as with alcohol based markers and some other products that there's some manufactor is seeling blank product to companies to slap their brand on it and sell it as their own but selling basically same product.
Wow. And I am a bit devestated by this. Is there anything we can actually buy that is going to actually be safe and enjoyable to use? I decided to get back into colouring to try and get some relief from the devestation that turned my life upside down in 2016. So I restarted in December 2020 and found this whole new world...and now I feel exhausted by it all and disillussioned. But thank you once again for a brilliant piece of work. You should become a detective!
Yes, Deli and Star-joy I know are made just as those sets. MarkArt are Nyomi but those are really good for 16. Marco Renui are great. Schipenfarben is good although I didn't spell that. I haven't found matches for Black Widow on Alibaba but they are expensive to buy the full set. I like the ones I have. Prismacolor are safe and most by Derwent, Polychromos etc. There are a lot that are good. Once you get into the bottom of the Budget pencils they are all the same pencils.
@@ColorMyWorld Thanks..I am in the UK and cannot get most of these pencils. We can get the more expensive pencils. I have commented before, I hope you can persuade Andy to make the pencils he is doing in collaboration with you available in the UK. They will probably be the last pencils I will ever purchase.
The Mopanxi HinTung oil based 72 count colored pencil set has the same exact numbering system and color names as the Norberg & Linden XL colored pencil set the only difference being that the Mopanxi HinTung set colored pencils being oil based and the Norburg & Linden being a wax based pencil.
Thanks for sharing your insights. I was *so* very tempted to get a big (160+) set of budget "oil" pencils a couple of months ago. But the reviews--both UA-cam and Amazon--gave me pause. And I finally splurged on the 100 Derwent Lightfast pencils, so I can safely say that I am cured of my pencil itch (hopefully for a considerable time). Now, unless/except Schpirerr Farben put out a set of 120...😜
Thank you SO much for this, Lori! And you can add Youver to the list of dupes. I have Youver (the norm cheapie pencils on Amazon) because they were under $20, and I actually got the Norberg and Linden 125 xxl set for $19.99 on Amazon. I'm not joking. I was WTH when they arrived. They were EXACTLY the same as the Youver.....my friend is getting the Norberg set for her girls. I know now to stick with the excellent/very good ones from now on. That and the Laurentien pencils from Canada! Ha ha ha ha....I love them and loved using them when I was a kid. I am super excited to see your collaboration with Andy like we all are to see how your pencil set will turn out! Is Ming going to be on the box as part of the logo? ;)
Great Video Lori! Coloring groups sucked me in for a couple brands of these pencils that you mentioned and yes they're all right for my color by number but they aren't as great which I didn't expect but they are like the same.
Hi! I am so disillusioned by the info in your recent pencil posts! Everyone wants to make a buck, I think. I’ve decided to use my old Prismacolor top of the line pencils until they run out, and then check back with your channel for your latest recommendations. For my most frequently used pencils I may check at the various sellers and get them one at a time. I have also bought some pencil holders so I can use my favorite colors down to the nub. I’m coloring my own sketches, not coloring pages, and my biggest challenge is to make myself slow down, lay down perfect layers, and not try to get a beautiful “perfect” oil painting look with the first layer. My only teacher made us use circular motions rather than straight lines to avoid “freckles” as he called bare paper spots showing through. Circles look good along edges of circular objects, BUT I’m allowing myself to depart from his “my way or the highway” instructions, and am following my own path, with one exception. Your advice has been very valuable, and I check in often. Thank you! Edit: I’m aggravated with Amazon because of changes in ALL their departments...who wants clothes with names like WEACZZY instead of Gloria Vanderbilt or Anne Klein or Steve Madden? I know the latter are well made out of quality materials. What do I know about WEACZZY? Same principle applies to art materials...I use a small sharp knife to sharpen my Prismacolor pencils, so I can put up with occasional off center lead. Otherwise, I love them. And I love your blog...please keep posting!
In about a week or 2 at the latest I'll be starting a new class which will be taught on UA-cam so all can participate. I'll be leaning toward doing free art. I'll also be teaching how to use these pencils, which most people are clueless. It's going to be much more open to artistic expression.
Please help. I purchased Raam pencils, which I never heard of, based on your last video. You stated and I quote “the colors do not seem to be doubling up on each other and there is a nice tonal-range.” I’ve re-watched several times the video and you seem to be recommending them and liking them which is why I bought them in the first place. But now it seems you’re contradicting that statement and not liking them. I am so confused. I look forward to your videos and trust your opinions and this has just left me scratching my head.
@Kristopher Michaels I don't know when or where Norberg Linden changed, because I bought the same set the last part of December or early January, mine didn't break down. But I'm pissed that they are the exact same pencils as Creyart
world currency markets affect the prices quoted. If the dollar exchange changes, or the yen or whatever, the prices fluctuate. As with everything. All these pencils are not made in the US, so the exchange rate affects the sellers.
I don't know but I do know I have seen pencil prices change within the hour. You can't count on one being the same price today and tomorrow. I do believe the guy who owns the Prismacolor vendor account on Amazon was playing games last week with everyone. I believe he was making people check often which drives traffic and plays with the way the item is picked up in the search engin.
Thank you so much for this video. All the coloring groups rave about the brutfuner right now. That's the trending pencil. I am glad you cleared that up. I now know not to waste my money on any of these sets.
The problem isn't owning these sets. They aren't going to make the paper explode, but the problem is when people want a new set and buy the exact same one as they have because they didn't know. I would stick to the sets that are created individually for companies. They are the same price, better quality and you know what you are getting.
@@tinniaphillips4059 Everything is subjective with preference. A lot of people love the Brutfuner. I have the squares and I love em. I use those and Prismacolor.
@@tinniaphillips4059 Dont get the Brutfuner 180s confused with the Square Brutfuner 120s. THOSE are all the rage on the coloring groups right now. Those are quite different, in color selection and lay down. Lori has done a video on the Squares separately.
Lori, the black BRutfuner 180 is not the same as the other ones which appear to be the same. The black BRutfuner has a larger pencil barrel and the lead is thicker. The black BRutfuner is the same as the soucolor, the shuttle art the kalour set.
Thank you I was wondering if my black barrel kalour set was the same as Soucolor. I do like my Kalour pencils, they are soft, and for the price you get so many of them. They are identical pencils.
You think this is bad. Marco have re-released the Renoir pencils under the Tribute name, exact same pencils but with full colour barrels instead of the lovely wood with dipped ends. Twice the price. SAME pencils. But they're marketing them as something different. UA-camrs are saying they're something different. Same numbers, same colours, same texture, opacity etc etc etc. The only difference is an almost indistinguishable weight difference, which I put down to the full barrel of paint. You can buy at least 48 of the Renoir open stock from Jackson's Art though, they're Bruynzeel pencils. No idea why Royal Talens decided to limit themselves to 48 when they took over the company when there are at least 120 colours in the range, perhaps to hide their Chinese imports they're charging a small fortune for. Again, plenty of UA-camrs are saying they're not the same, but they are. I've been saying for months that all these "new" sets are just re-released Guang Hui/Soucolor with their own branding though, but nobody would listen to me. Some of them still have the same numbers too. Better yet, the round 120/180 Brutfuner with full colour barrels are the same as the square 72/120 Brutfuner, except the square ones are absolute trash quality wood and stink to high heck of solvent weeks after buying and airing them. I didn't bother getting the black barrel with dipped ends as I assumed they were also the same. Who else does square pencils all of a sudden though? Marco. Weird, I wonder if they're the same too! The Nyoni watercolour pencils also look like they may be the Renoir/Tribute watercolours, but I'm yet to confirm 100%. I will say however that the 80* Brutfuner full colour barrel set has no duplicates from the 120/180 full colour barrel sets, just if anyone was interested in the additional pastel tones and likes how the Brutfuner etc perform.
Thank you so much for making this video. As a beginner, I’ve been ripped off - fake Prismacolor 72 on Temu still over £60 GBP. Right now, in the UK, Prismas are £200 for a full set. I also got scammed by a ‘Faber Castel sale’ for £70. I was going to stop art as a hobby as I don’t want to be such an easy target ❤
Hello Lori, thank you. Please could you add another 120 set to this list. I have just recenty purchased the 120 creyart set, but I already own the artworx 120 set. The creyart set is completely the same pencils as the artworx set, names, numbers, and barrel color, tin size, color swatch on the tin although artworx has the color names on the swatch inside the tin and the creyart swatch on the back of the tin, not inside, does not. They all use the same supplier in china! just add their company names to the barrels of the pencils. Very confusing for the consumer all this happening. Question, I have a 42 year old box set of 72 berol karisma pencils UK manufactured, never used, how much do you think they would be worth now? I know the karisma company was bought by the company that make the prismacolor pencils and they made prismacolor from the karisma range. Thank you Kevin UK
I used to follow your channel because of the tips and tricks for coloring, but recently, there is so much videos of rants and complainning, not to mention the videos off the theme of your channel.
Laurie I've recently purchased the FC polychromos you have the link for and I think I have been doped. I see 2 sets of the 120s and one set has red pencil on lid and other has orange . Anyway I got the cheaper of the 120 sets and I feel as though these are not the polychromos I was expecting or that everyone else is using. Can you please please please help me as I am nor liking these pencils and I did pay 184.00 dollars for the 120 set. Have i been doped? I can't get them to sharpen, tips on some pencils were chipped, and none had a nice sharp point. Is it me or the pencils. Please help me. Thank you so much
I have a question. If you had to pick just one wax based pencil set, which would you prefer? I have an oil based set of 120 colors and am thinking of getting a wax based set with this crazy price fluctuation going on. Should I wait for the new set that CMW's friend Andy will be releasing soon? This is all so confusing to me. Thanks for any feedback. Very much appreciated.
The set I am creating with Andy will be oil. My favorite wax is Prismacolor. You don't need a full 150 colors. If you can't afford the full 150 just go with the smaller set. In my links there is a 20 set that is really cheap and worth the money. It's under 10 dollars (if it hasn't changed). That will get you started. In a few weeks you be learning all there is to know about the oil set and having a small wax set will help smooth things out but isn't 100% necessary.
What’s really interesting is that I just looked at the Amazon US site and the pencil product ranges are much different to those on Amazon UK. The US site seems flooded with these pencil dupes from different companies.
US Amazon has a lot of the nice full colour barrels with capped ends too, whereas UK Amazon has a lot of full colour barrels with uncapped ends, or full black/grey/dark blue barrels with dipped and capped ends. And we have way more hexagonal pencils in the UK, which is horrific tbh. Round or go home.
I have a 160 Brutfuner set, not the black barrel. I don't like the wood which was used for them. And I also have a 72 set of Coloré pencils, which are pencils in black barrels and I do believe they are the same as Creyart pencils. And I prefer Coloré pencils to Brutfuner pencils because of wood quality - their wood seems to be of better quality to me. But even such a "small" set of 72 pencils has duplicates. Annoying!
Off topic... but I am really impressed with the quality and color selection of the Amazon Basics 72 set. i am also impressed with the price as well. I hope they bring out a 120 set. But by far, the most unique muted toned set seems to be the Black Widow Monarch 48 set, this is a nice soft core set that compliaments any other soft core set of decent quality.... there, my three cents worth.
@@deborahjane68If Amazon Basics were going to bring out a set of 120, I think they would have already done so. I own two sets of the Arteza Expert 120. These by far are better than Prismacolor, though no set can compare to Prismas neutral colors. I already had the complete set of all the Black Widow pencils ( 180 ) and I ordered all seven sets again for a back up set, and I noticed the tins have got smaller and the plastic incerts are really poor quality and the quality of the pencils having centered cores has dropped. I won't order them again. I put my first complete set of all 180 into a color wheel order group into a large seperate tin, 6 trays of 30 each. So between 3 sets being the Prisma 150, the Arteza 120, and the lack Widows 180, This makes a large set of 450 soft core pencils of pretty much all the same quality, ,,for the most part anyway. Having four sets of the Prismas 150 sets helps, plus about 100 extras....and this is just my softer cores, I have about the same in a hard core line up of a few other brands.
If I had to pick one of the sets it would be Creyart. Even though they are all the same, that set has been around the longest. If really doesn't matter because they are the same pencils as the others.
Last week I bought a set of the Caran D'ache Luminance Colored Pencil Set of 76 for 189.00 from the Amazon global site free shipping too. Just have to wait until the 22nd, but I don't care about the wait. This week, they are almost 300.00.
Amazon loves doing that with Prices. I was going to get me some I got some drawers for storage for my crafts supplies. Those prices kept going up and down. Beware of Scammers. They are everywhere right now. Ty for the review. But, i think its up to the person. How many they want to buy in a set. ☺️
I am sure there are over lapping colors but the squares are different. I LOVE my squares. The square set is much older than the new Brutfuner. Make sure you have a wider pencil sharpener. They don't fit into my electric. I use a wide hand sharpener. It works nicely. Keep in mind Brutfuner is Brutfuner. I don't think they are top line coloring pencils but I 100% like my squares better than my rounds. They also feel good in my hand. Takes a bit of getting used to, but you will find that sweet spot. Oh and they don't roll off my desk which is really helpful. I would love it if more sets were square. I like the Marco Pastel squares too.
Thank you so much for sharing your wealth of knowledge concerning colored pencils not only techniques but also information like you have shared in this video. Can’t wait to see what you come up with as far as the set of pencils for the Deli pencils. I am hoping that there will be light, med and darks of a lot of the pencils. If so, this will make it a very valuable set, but of course as long as it is a decent pencil. While there are lights, med and darks in sets, a lot of them just don’t play nice together. To come up with a set that has many of these trios would be golden.
150 dollars for a big Prismacolor premier set? Believe me, here in Germany, that would still be a major bargain! Here the big set is around 200-300 euros! That's why I asked my cousin,to get me the 150 Prismacolor premier set from the US. Thx for the great review video! Keep it coming! 😉👍
Why are we all so worked up about cheap pencils? I mean I’m not saying if it comes out of China it’s bad, there are a lot of beautiful things and history that come from China. But should we not expect these sorts of things from their mass production lines? I own Brutfunners (square barrels) and Castle Art pencils. I bought these pencils, cheap pencils so that I wouldn’t be upset with breakages during travel. It is good to know about fakes, especially from the big 5 brands. I would not expect “duplicate” sets from prisma, Fabre, Derwent, Holbine or Caran. I know not everyone wants to invest in these sets, I have worked hard to save for some of these pencils for my business. What I am saying is thank you for saying these are the same, but one or two cheap sets, they have a function. Why would anyone need every cheap set? There’s no collector value and the quality is limited.
I bought the Deli pencils on your recommendation and the only complaint I have is there are no off white shades. I was coloring a page and I needed a cream color for a ship's sail and there isn't one in the set. Perhaps Andy can add a cream or sand color. Otherwise, this set is awesome and the colors blend beautifully.
Andy is only a distributor for the Deli pencils. He is the manufactuer of the Star-Joy, It doesn't surprise me that there is no cream because it's a 72 pencil set. If it was a 120 there would be. Andy knew this and produced the Star-joy but did the barrel smaller. His next set is going to be 120 with a larger barrel.
@@ColorMyWorld I see your point, but I guess I use cream so much I assumed it should be a must for pencil sets. I could always try to blend white with a light warm brown color...albeit carefully...or, I can always grab one from another set. These pencils do blend beautifully, especially on good quality paper.
@@ColorMyWorld ...and one more thing while I'm thinking about it. Do you know if these pencils will work with Gamsol? I don't know if the oil pencils will react differently than the wax pencils. 🤔
I did a comparison of the rounds and squares. I decided they were the exact same pencil, one round, one square, with the same colors. The squares were numbered differently. It did seem the squares had less pigment, it took more work to do what the rounds did effortlessly. My comparisons go live April 10th. But I'm last to the bandwagon, everyone's done the brutfuners.
I guess they all played the game. Remember I asked about Shuttle Art, and you said they weren't that good, and I said it was like they updated their quality? Well, they're purchasing the white label set. It's the same black barrel dipped ends.
@@samsmom1491 Cream is a very easy color to create. With the deli pencils blend Pencil 158 with white and the lightest yellow. Play with the combo until you get the right shade. I happen to be using the Deli's right now and made cream and sand just a few minutes ago. There isn't any color you can't create.
How old are your sets? Marco does have a history of coping other set colors, but my sets are nothing alike. I'll have to go cross refrence. We may have different verions of the sets. It's what I hate about China pencils.
I heard Uni-Posca pencils were good but I can't find them to buy them. I just looked at the Fantasia and put it in my Amazon Cart. Looks interesting. I would like to test them in person. I am a drop conserned they are just the regular black barrel but they are hexagonal.
@@ColorMyWorld Fantasia artist color-they are black barrel hexagonal. No color name on the barrel, just a number. I thought maybe they were a knockoff...
@@deamathews1871 They aren't worth enough to be a knock off. They are probably a white label product. Same old same old but since they are different I will check them out.
I read all the reviews. Their top reviewer raved about them and called them her favorite pencil. Then I read her other reviews and she also called Prang her favorite pencil. Prang are bottom barrel crap pencils. They were compared to the Creatacolor Karmina and I find those pencils scratchy and dusty so this may not be something I would invest in now. I have not been able to find the Uni-Posca pencils on sale. The Miscibishi (which I can't spell) have a great reputation, but they are expensive. I don't believe they come in singles so right now I don't want to invest in them. With that being the only problem, I would rather spend my money on the Uni-Posca than the Fantasia. If you find where they are being sold please let me know.
@@mariatriesart8389 I can't answer this now. I haven't compared the swatches but they aren't the same. How different I am not sure. I never did a swatch sheet for the squares because their system is in another language and written really small. I'll do a test sheet tonight and let you know. What I can tell you is they are very pretty pencils if you are into that type of stuff.. meaning obsessive compulsive pencil collecting.
NORBERG & LINDEN are the good guys. They began with 72. Then the creyart mess. Now the Raam Refined mess. The problem is all these people manufacturing at same place in China. It was the factory that gave N&L colors to Creyart, now Raam Refined. What's next....UGH
Also known and proven that the Brutfuners 180 = Kalour 180 = Shuttleart 174 = Soucolor 180. Completely exact the same pensils
I got them all thinking they were different now I have a room full of coloring supplies to fill the empty void I feel in my soul
I won't touch Kalour. I have seen them in the bargain basement departments on Alibaba once too many times. I don't even like the tin.
@@virginiaarthur5 It will get better, hang in there.
wow good to know
I like the Kalour (or the standard pencil of these 4 brands).
I personally am a lover of white label... I’m happy to buy the cheaper Homebrand cheese and crackers at the supermarket 😝😂

Me too x
You are right, it becomes like a hoarding habit, kind of like make up hoarders 🤣
@@mc_va omg I used to hoard make up!! I'm just moving from hoarding 1 thing to another because guess what?! I did buy the Polish pencils!!😣
You’re right but you have a spending problem clearly. You need to learn how to control your spending habits based an you’re budget.
Thank you, Lori, for exposing bad business practices and lousy art supplies. You provide a real service to the coloring public.
Be happy. I have Soucolor in a different barrel and I am going to use them to light a BBQ this Summer. They sucked.
@@ColorMyWorld Lolololol
@@ColorMyWorld SO true! Good point. Soucolor would be great for kindling....
Yesterday they were at 153 and have been at 153 for 2 days. I told you they would drop so the dropping may have begun.
ya $200 in Canada - yeesh
That Norbert pencil box shows a picture of the KUM brand pencil sharpener, which is a good German company which I am sure would not allow their product to be on a cheapo Chinese colored pencil set.
Excellent point.
I got my 120 polycromos last week at 160$ there 205$ now I love your videos they are so helpful thank you so much
I saw them yesterday at 170. I bought mine in 2017 for 150. I have so many sets of pencils I rarely have to buy a second one. I normally just replace pencils except for Prismas. I am on set number 8.
Wow
I couldn't afford that much
Can't save it my hubby would spend it
Omg! You're like the Faber Castel knight on horseback wielding a pencil lance!! 😂
I'm learning so much about colored pencils. Who knew it was like an international spy network? Love you!!
LOL
👏🏻👏🏻🤣🤣
About Prismacolor, the reason for all the different prices is they have to compete with the Chinese imports! Prismacolor is probably hurting in sales so...
On the Amazon site here in Canada, there are side-by-side listings for the 150 set...one is for $155, the other is $195. Which one do you think people are going to buy? Last year, after I had bought my set for around $140, they had them on sale for $100, so I bought another set. It way cheaper to buy that set to use as replacements, than buying replacement pencils.
Yes in Canada too. What a heartbreaking thing to all colour pencils cheaper. But we can't get the same prices here at all. Toronto.
Your prismas melted? I have never heard of that happening. In fact I put them in the oven in one video at 500 degrees and they barely moved.
Lori, I think humidity with high temps were probably what Nancy was dealing with, while you are in the desert. I am guessing here, hope this sheds light.
@@leesanchez8432 Very interesting thoughts I am thinking right now. I wonder and when I wonder pencils get hurt LOL... evil scientist laugh.
😱 Yikes
I live in phoenix and I never take the Prismacolors outside for this reason. I only take the cheaper harder pencils outside. I love to color at the park.
This happened in October 2020 with these Prismacolor as well. I purchased this exact listing at that time and it was $69. A week later it went up to $175.
Thank you Lori for the video. All your information on these pencils is really priceless. You help me make good informed decisions. Nobody wants to waste their money.
I just love your video's!! I have the creyart, shuttle art , and ram, and wondered what was going on. I am grateful for your reviews.Thank you
Thank you so much Lori. I think it's wonderful that you go through all the trouble to find out the truth about colored pencils for us as a coloring community. I was taught a long time ago as a child you get what you pay for. I love all your videos thank you very much for sharing and happy coloring.
I have seen reviews of customers on amazon showing in their norberg and linden 120 sets they received creyart labelled pencils in their box
Yes, I have discovered this myself. Thank you for all you work...as a former NYer I love your accent
I just love Kristopher! This is an excellent example of why I do not like Amazon! Just when you think it can't get much worse....😱 Thanks Lori
Yeah I hardly use Amazon anymore. It used to be an amazing place but now you can't trust that anything is real. It has turned into Fake Central.
@Kristopher Michaels 😘
How Thoughtful Buying Your Wife New Set. X
Are the Star Joys the same as the Castle Art pencils? Thank you for making these videos!
My N&L pencils came with the Creyart name on them. When I reached out they said it was manufacturing issue but it was their formula. I ended up keeping them but lost trust in their company
Same thing happened to me. I got the same response... i like my Creyarts so I kept them but lost trust in N & L
Box and pencil images are mocked up for supplier images before the pencils are even made, so they don’t always represent the actual items. That looks like what happened to the N&Ls
It also seems like quite a few companies are being duped by the Chinese manufacturers who swap the products and chop and change the pencil ranges willy-nilly.
The black barrel pencils look like so many other brands. I wonder if they are all made in the same factory or even the same pencils.
@@ColorMyWorld yes I agree with you. I am an all or nothing girl with pencil sets. But I have some lovely small sets as well as big sets.
I just received my 120 set of Markart, I'm very impressed with them.
Now, unless/except Schpirerr Farben put out a set of 120...😜
120 set no way. 😳😯😱😵
Is Ming going to be on the box as part of the logo? ;)

Wow. How interesting. Thank you for all your invaluable information, Lori.
@@ColorMyWorld That sounds exciting...I’ll be looking for it. And thanks for your reply!

My faulty Arteza, which dissolve in water, colour just like the Brutfuner 180 (it said they dissolved in water in the advert, tough).
Thank you so very much for all the information and all your hard work. Appreciate you
I had the Norberg Linden pencils and they were good and then Kristopher got the same set and they were different, I had gotten mine in January.
I saw your amazon review. Hugs my friend.
@Kristopher Michaels I don't know when or where Norberg Linden changed, because I bought the same set the last part of December or early January, mine didn't break down. But I'm pissed that they are the exact same pencils as Creyart
Bought my 2nd set of 150ct Prismas last week at $69 (the first set I got for $85). YAY! TFS!
I know it’s been over a year but….. where did you get a 150 set for $85!?!?
world currency markets affect the prices quoted.
Thanks for this review, very interesting, got to ask they also look the same as castle art..
They are never cheap in the UK. They’re always well over £150.
I get what your saying. I am a collector of pencils but yet a pencil snob 🤣 these sets sound like crap ole to me. 😂😂

@@MultiFly5 I do too.
I got the Art-n-Fly, whew! It sounds like they're not bad. What sre they like??
More pencil gate? This keeps getting deeper and deeper.
Regarding the next Star Joy set, is that Star Joy Deli or SJ Star Joy, please?

Annoying!
Lori do you have a pdf of your color swatches only? I love your color swatches pages.
I have some spelling to fix and I'll make them available.

My Colouring Corner did a video a month ago about how Raam Refined = Norberg & Linden, and she actually spoke with Mr Linden about it
I am pretty sure that's who I spoke to also.
They Are Lovely Pencils Do You Think They Will Do A 120 Set?
I got 48 Creyart for $15. They're pretty awesome!!
If I had to pick one of the sets it would be Creyart. Even though they are all the same, that set has been around the longest. If really doesn't matter because they are the same pencils as the others.
@@ColorMyWorld love to know how many pencils are actually made by the same company!!

Amazon loves doing that with Prices. I was going to get me some I got some drawers for storage for my crafts supplies. Those prices kept going up and down. Beware of Scammers. They are everywhere right now. Ty for the review. But, i think its up to the person. How many they want to buy in a set. ☺️
Are the brutfuner square 120 pencils the same exactly as the 180 set?
@@ColorMyWorld I have the square and I'm really enjoying them . I'm in UK great informative video
There is a strong possibility that all these brands are buying from the same manufacturers
I have around 20 videos on the subject. The answer is 100% yes they are. My China Documentary goes into that in much more detail.
More great info. Thanks Lori
Omg please update on the price I just missed this /crying. Also where can I get these deli pencils?
All links are in the description. Sorry I am behind on things. Prisma is on sale for around 65 now. I'll be back in another day with videos.
Omg! I got the creyart one. and i haven't swatched them yet.
Thanks! Very helpful. Looking to get the deli set.
@@samsmom1491 Yes, most will but wax is always best.
Where does the Brutfuner square pencils fall in the "they are all the same set" or do they not fall into that category?
I did a comparison of the rounds and squares. I decided they were the exact same pencil, one round, one square, with the same colors. The squares were numbered differently. It did seem the squares had less pigment, it took more work to do what the rounds did effortlessly. My comparisons go live April 10th. But I'm last to the bandwagon, everyone's done the brutfuners.
@@FeathPymArt thank you. I only own the squares so I can’t do the comparison myself
I find Brutfuner squares are better than the rounds. When I colour with mine, it doesn't take much effort for rich colour.
@@ElvisLivesUpstairs Same here.
@@ElvisLivesUpstairs interesting! personal choice then. I liked the squares but I liked the rounds better.
I’m returning to Amazon, my CREYART which were sent to me instead of orionstar pencils which I liked.
Thank you Lori for your research on these pencils.
I guess they all played the game. Remember I asked about Shuttle Art, and you said they weren't that good, and I said it was like they updated their quality? Well, they're purchasing the white label set. It's the same black barrel dipped ends.
The new 160 Color More set is the same as the Cool Bank.
I just saw Cool Bank on Alibaba selling for around 3.99 a box.
Excellent video very helpful!
Because everybody got their stimulus check they hiking everything up almost three times on Amazon.
Yep. Still not has gone down 2 months later.
Wow - I did snag a set of Prismacolor last week for $72 (including tax).... Yay!!!
Maybe thats how that distributor of PColor is advertising -- like it got all this attention now.
Is star joy coming out with a new set
Yep and I am picking their colors
Please have Andy add a cream color! There is no cream or sand colors.
@@SequoiaDryad They are good pencils
Thank you lori you help so much
Amazon Basics and Marco Raffine are also the same pencils.
How old are your sets? Marco does have a history of coping other set colors, but my sets are nothing alike. I'll have to go cross refrence. We may have different verions of the sets. It's what I hate about China pencils.
Do you know anything about Fantasia or uni-Posca pencils?
@@ColorMyWorld You are wonderful!! Excellent advice. I got the uni-posca from Blick.
What about the Chinese Square Brutfuners??? Are they in ghe same boat as the rest in the video???
Those are the ones I have and love.
@@ColorMyWorld So they are different than the other Brutfuners, because, I got 2 sets of the 120's, black box too.
@@ColorMyWorld are you referring to the Chinese writing on the pencils?? Each pencil has different writing??
The writings on each pencil are the pencil names.
"Nobody's having sex with the duck." 😂 I'm so glad I found your channel!
A year old video and I saw prismas are still that price.
this happened to me twice
Why not just stick to the set you like. I have the full set of prismas and a 160 set of Brutfuners. That's enough
They look like Castle art and Shuttle Art.
NORBERG & LINDEN are the good guys. They began with 72. Then the creyart mess. Now the Raam Refined mess. The problem is all these people manufacturing at same place in China. It was the factory that gave N&L colors to Creyart, now Raam Refined. What's next....UGH
