I really love the character of Spike the Dog and how he serves as interesting dynamic to Tom & Jerry and a perfect foil to Tom resulting in the cat getting the blame. Even he's one of the best animated father's due to his relationship with his son Tyke. I also am surprised that Daws Butler who voiced Yogi Bear, Huckleberry Hound and Elroy Jetson was the voice for Spike in the Spike & Tyke shorts from 1949 to 1958. Speaking of which looking forward to Spike's voice evolution whenever it comes out.
Technically, Spike and Tyke's final appearance in a Tom and Jerry short was Barbecue Brawl, since Tops with Pops is just a shot-by-shot, beat-by-beat remake of Love that Pup. Edit: 64 comments and none of them got a heart
@@animatedabe6819 yeah but actually the comment that i just mention was one of the short where tom was thying capture jerry but the main problem is jerry was hiding underneath tyke, making even more jarring since spike was completely overprotective father but didn't know the reason why tom doing his action back in the first place. At the end of the short itself where tom finally capture jerry, jerry quickly put tyke under the half barrel so he can see spike shred tom's skin and using it as a mat. After that, tom was just wearing a barrel while jerry on the other hand happily sleeps between spike and his son as long as tom didn't disturb him. HAPPY ENDING!
There's another maybe incarnation of Spike. A mini bulldog that Jerry ordered to take care of his Tom problem. This tiny bulldog has the personality of The Tasmanian Devil, which is no surprise since he was created by Chuck Jones. When he attacks Tom, all you see is his teeth.
One episode it was twins. So Tuffy and Nibbles could be thought of as two different characters with one making more dominant appearences than the other.
To my knowledge, Nibbles originally appeared as an orphan that Jerry was watching (I think the first episode was a thanksgiving one, but the name escapes me). He was later retconned into being Jerry's nephew, and was eventually renamed Tuffy. Jerry's cousin is Muscles Mouse.

I really love the segment from recent Tom and Jerry show where there was a Tom and Jerry Detective short that played off the joke between Avery’s Spike and Butch, and HB’s Spike with them sharing similar names.
So we have Butch, the original Spike; Butch, the black cat; Butch, the Tex Avery dog, Warner Bros' Spike Bulldog that is unrelated to the first Spike and Mike. And apparently Tom & Jerry and the Magic Ring was the Into the Butch-verse moment of the series.
@@DaveLeeDownUnder yeah, I know. I wanted to point out that only two episodes where mammy two shoes and spike bulldog appear in the single episode. Besides the two, spike never appeared in the rest of the mammy two shoes episodes.
Spike and Tyke is a very cute and interesting cartoon I especially liked the one with Tom Cat in which he has to go along with what Spike says in letting his son Tyke feel Superior to him w/o giving way exactly what the theme may be.
With Warners Brothers now owning both Tom and Jerry and Sylvester and Tweety it would be funny if they revealed that Hector (the dog from Sylvester and Tweety) is related to Spike or that they are the same dog moonlighting.
Well done! You included all incarnations of Spike!😉😉😉😉 My favorite toon is the one where Spike, Tom and Jerry call a truce. Another good one is where Tom's serenading Tootles, with Spike basically guarding her from Tom.
Butch, the Killer, Spike was a tough tough jimmy Duranty fellow who didn't put up with nonsense. However, once Tyke was born, he settled down his aggression unless warranted! Unlike his cousin Spike( Butch) from Tex Avery, Spike was more of a warm loving father figure and may have rivaled Augie Dogie & his son!
Spike and Tyke are pretty good characters in my opinion I do like one of those voice actors and I think Billy does a pretty good job well in the 1940s cartoons that is as well as Dawes Butler I'm pretty sure all of them did pretty good so they're pretty good characters I am excited for the new upcoming Tom and Jerry movie this week because it's just going to be that great
