Here's an idea: use reusable water bottles with a larger opening like a REI 32-oz bottle. Less waste, scoop size matters less, and you can hold more water than most disposable water bottles!
I think a good business model for them would actually be to pivot into the larger all kinds of powder business. License the design to baby formula companies as well as any formula companies at a cheaper design so they're disposable. The baby formula company gets to have a new selling point while these guys now have a stable b2b seller.

From a $100,000 valuation to a $62,500 valuation and from 75% equity to 60% equity... best decision that couple could ever make. It would have taken them years (or they never would have been able to do it)... they NEEDED the sharks. I think this is a great investment for all of them.
y'all laughing at them 2 years ago and that "it's just a scoop" is worth 64 million dollars now and at that time it was estimated to be worth a 100k . now that's a big jump
This is actually a really smart idea should make it in metal though .. could raise the price and sell it in target/Walmart w formula as well Lasts longer and sells for more it would raise interest
Could be because they use a 3rd party to manufacture it. It may cost the manufacturer that much to make but obviously they would likely sell it for more than cost to cover materials, labor and overhead
@ben1spain cheap labor isn't really relevant to a plastic mold that is being pumped out by injector machines. They either got a deal on a mold or they're being completely ripped off on how much each unit costs
@ben1spain The mold is the most expensive part of the business in terms of customer facing expenses. And when you're ordering tens of thousands of pieces the price should scale with it. A plastic piece this small shouldn't cost anywhere near this price.
@@Neomanee Lets calculate according to your assumption. 2 cents per unit, and order of 20k. 20000*0.02$ = 400$ You think 400$ enough to cover the manufacturing cost of this thing??? Also dont forget the manufacturer also want a profit from this, theyre not charity.
@@blazkify Yes, as I told someone else, the mold is going to be the most expensive part of this. And yeah sure they'll probably also pay for shipping but once the mold is made it costs almost nothing to produce the pieces.
They have teams. So they'll have different managers who handle branding, production, tech, laws, ect. And the shark will cover general direction, and who to introduce. Kind of like bar rescue. Jon has different people that he'll bring in depending on the resturant.
Steve Baxter is a venture capitalist. His company is literally just people that go around managing all these business day-to-day. For the rest of them, they tend to offer "mentorship" - which is a 30 minute coffee once a month - not actual management support or business consulting for the business. For this scoop, after their 20 phone calls, once they found some buyers and some stores that were happy to stock it they would be done, and it's on the entrepreneurs to manage the business from then on. If the business gets massive, then the shark might agree to sit on the board and so the company gets around 10 hours of their time a month. At best the smaller businesses get a business persons phone number to call when they've got tough questions, and some support when a bigger business approaches them for a takeover.
I had just started watching these videos and that was my 1st. Thought: How can these people manage ALL these they take on Thank you for answering my inquiry Benjamin Collins.
Man I’m in the USA and I’d love that damn scoop! I do have many powdered supplements and the scoop is either all the way at the bottom of the powder or not even there at all! I’ve probably spilled and wasted a full serving just to use it. This product deserves respect lol
I’ve watched a dozen of episodes from this version of shark tank and this is the first deal I’ve seen, which it wasn’t much of a great one tbh. These sharks are much more difficult than the ones on the American show and keep saying “it’s a product, not a business” which isn’t the whole point of shark tank to bring a product and turn it into a more profitable business?
Same here! Larger opening, and also larger contents - 600ml. The only problem is a keep leaving them behind, and have to buy new ones. Then I have gatorade which I don't really want. The boss spoon works with an ordinary water bottle.
On their website it notes that it is more effective than a funnel due to the different textures of protein powders and the thicker textures could disrupt the flow through a funnel !
Most reusable bottles have a wider opening in my experience so this product seems to necessitate the continuation of disposable plastics which seems very shortsighted.
I actually faced this problem many times. Solution: Take the existing scoop like a shot and chase with the water bottle. Made less mess and felt like I was already partying.
Barbara - i dont feel your vibe, so im out Jenny - i do love your product, but im out Naomi - i will definitely refer this to my customers, but im out These ladies lol
They're targeting the wrong people. They need to patent this and selling the rights to the supplement manufacturers, who can then include scoops with this design in each box. A consumer won't buy this to use repeatedly, but it has value as a disposable tool.
I’m sure people with babies would make them BANK. If there’s anything I’ve witnessed and been shocked by as someone who is childfree, is the amount of money people (new parents) will spend on stuff for their babies, especially if it saves them time. If a parent of a 10 month old takes 5 minutes to make a bottle of formula, this can halve that time. Baby bottles have small mouths but formula scoops are HUGE. I don’t think they would like to make a funnel with paper or foil or anything every time they need to make a bottle. The product has potential.
0:29 “two years of research shows that bottles in different countries have the same opening” ... they call that standardization norms. That takes an hour to find out. Not 2 years.
Just bought a set of 5. Supplements on the run are always tough, with one in each car, gym and travel bags it is possibly the best solution. Interested to see how they go.
The real issue with this product is that all powdered supplements serving scoops are different sizes and vary depending on the dosage required. The easy way to counteract this would to weigh the bottle and tere it on a food scale, although, that’s a pesky extra step. I’ve thought about making a product for this scenario for ages lol
This needs to be licensed, supplement companies design scoops based on dosing size, if someone used this on a pre-workout they might be getting too much or too little active ingredients.
Thanks for checking out our pitch! It was definitely an experience to remember! We are currently expanding into USA, if you have any supplements shops or vitamin retailers you would like to see the product in let us know. Sam & Hannah www.bosscoop.com
Have you tried licensing the product to a supplement manufacturer so they can include the scoop with their product - not sure if they also include sqoops like baby formula manufacturers do here in South Africa. Instead of selling a handful of scoops at a large margin, you can get a couple of cents on every supplement sold. In South Africa the biggest supplement manufacturer is USN. Ceo and founder facebook.com/albe.geldenhuys.1
Neil Oliver thanks, Neil! We sure do have that plan already in the works, it was unfortunately edited out of the pitch! Has always been the plan for the product :) Also for reference, something else edited out is our granted Aus and US design patents. Thanks for the comments!
I've always wanted to take 20 minutes getting my protein powder in a water bottle using a thimble sized scoop. Here's an idea, a car funnel, your entire scoop of protein or whatever powder and 3 taps on the funnel. Done in 5 sceonds
$6/unit, has been sold:1000 Cogs only 5% of the selling price If he could hook supplement company to include this I think this isn't that bad. The packaging also look okay. I expect the price to drop to $1 though.
This is dependent on plastic bottles being used, rather than a reusable one where you can take off the entire top. How many people use these powders in one-time-use plastic bottles over reusable ones?
So did this product "scoop it" or "spill it"? Frankly I can't see it hitting it big... Personally I would just get a shaker/mixer bottles if I wanted to mix something n drink it.

And then after that, "Times sharks didn't back out right after the show was shot"
But 2 of the sharks actually invested here? For 40% of the company
@@fayabraguette Around 40% of the deals that happen on air, get cancelled later during discussion
Honestly, a gym shaker bottle of $8 or $9 has a huge opening which doesn't need a special scoop, a built in filter, a built in compartment to store powder.
Australians really know how to screw up a good show
I totally disagree. The Aussie Sharks are much more likeable than the Dragons on the British show, and I just like the whole atmosphere of the Australian version way more than ours.

This is actually a really smart idea should make it in metal though .. could raise the price and sell it in target/Walmart w formula as well
Lasts longer and sells for more it would raise interest
How is this costing them 29 cents per scoop? That seems way too high for something that should be injection molded for maybe 1 to 2 cents per unit.
20000*0.02$ = 400$
You think 400$ enough to cover the manufacturing cost of this thing??? Mould alone would probably cost at the very least 3k AUD. And then theres the other overhead which you seem to underestimate.
This is so weird, baby formula just comes with a scoop this exact shape.? How is this a product.
I think the sharks thought they could use these people to push other products. Investing in the people, with other products, can be rewarding too.
What I’m wondering is how they’re sharks are able to manage all these businesses they are investing in
They have teams.
They have an empayar of people helping them
I had just started watching these videos and that was my 1st. Thought:
How can these people manage ALL these they take on
Thank you for answering my inquiry Benjamin Collins.
They have tens of thousands maybe more people working for them not to mention their massive lists of high profile contacts. It’s a pyramid
I have never seen the lady in the red dress invest in any business. She always says "I am out", with a smile on her face.

My solution was to just buy a single gatorade bottle. Large opening, easily reusable.
Same here! Larger opening, and also larger contents - 600ml. The only problem is a keep leaving them behind, and have to buy new ones. Then I have gatorade which I don't really want. The boss spoon works with an ordinary water bottle.
This is actually such a great product, I wish every pre-workout supplement company had this scoop in their stuff.
The one with the hinged funnel works perfectly. Comes with gfuel. Creates 0 spillage and is smaller than the top of the water bottle so fits easier

They're targeting the wrong people. They need to patent this and selling the rights to the supplement manufacturers, who can then include scoops with this design in each box.
A consumer won't buy this to use repeatedly, but it has value as a disposable tool.
Same thought here as well
I’m sure people with babies would make them BANK.
The editing on this is super manipulative. You can see the same clips repeated several times. Interesting concept, though.

The real issue with this product is that all powdered supplements serving scoops are different sizes and vary depending on the dosage required. The easy way to counteract this would to weigh the bottle and tere it on a food scale, although, that’s a pesky extra step. I’ve thought about making a product for this scenario for ages lol
You just mold some lines along the inside of the scoop for different measurements. Like any other measuring device lol. Not that hard to adapt around

Why?
This needs to be licensed, supplement companies design scoops based on dosing size, if someone used this on a pre-workout they might be getting too much or too little active ingredients.
After watching the U.S and U.K version I feel like the Australian version is by far the friendliest.

Why not just buy a reusable bottle and save a lot on plastic and waste??
I've always wanted to take 20 minutes getting my protein powder in a water bottle using a thimble sized scoop. Here's an idea, a car funnel, your entire scoop of protein or whatever powder and 3 taps on the funnel. Done in 5 sceonds
$6/unit, has been sold:1000
Cogs only 5% of the selling price
If he could hook supplement company to include this I think this isn't that bad. The packaging also look okay. I expect the price to drop to $1 though.
They didn't ask the most important question... "do they have a patent for it"?
I can cut a sharpie cap and make this.
thats very likely not patentable. Design pattern might be worth it due to it beeing cheep to get.
This is dependent on plastic bottles being used, rather than a reusable one where you can take off the entire top. How many people use these powders in one-time-use plastic bottles over reusable ones?
No one because the scoops aren't built for them to be used.
But I HATE using reusable shakers for supplements. I'd use this for sure
never seen anyone use normal bottles for protein powder anyway always protein shakers
