      One of the really useful things about Hammer's commentary is that he speaks so slowly and clearly, it is possible to play the tournaments at one-and-a-half speed and still understand everything he is saying. Of course, once Anna comes on at the end, the speed has to be put back to normal.

    I really enjoyed coverage. It's fun to really follow a few games as the general coverage sometimes made my head spin, switching between a hundred boards..

    Just watched an interview with Pia. She said that she always plays for the fun and doesn't really focus on the scores in the tournament. I think that is a very sound attitude to avoid stress and pressure paralyzing you. I once talked to a famous musician, asking how he could play so well. He said "Don't take yourself too seriously. enjoy what you do".

    Pia continues to show the younger generation how it is done. She was the only team member to play higher than her rating. Hopefully we get to hear what the fuss was in terms of Pia’s game.

  • @toddstark878
    @toddstark878 Місяць тому +2

    Pia didn’t want to claim a draw for her team but knew retreating the Queen probably loses the game. The Mongolian was trying to force her to retreat the Queen or take a draw which high probability ensures her team wins with already one win. Team tactics in chess.

    • @atf300t
      @atf300t Місяць тому

      Retreating the Queen to b6 would not result in the loss per se, but the white position was very solid and Pia could not find any plan to make real progress, and also she had less time on her clock than her opponent.

    I have been following your olympiad both on twitch live and on replay here. It had been such a treat to have Hammer commentating. It was both enjoyable and such a great learning opportunity for us viewers.
    There were some tricky games and opponents but I feel like you did play very well in many games.
    My favourite moment was the 10th round when you were playing next to your mom it was touching to see you both in the same posture while concentrating and Pia looked so happy and proud when you won 😊

    Hammer said it’s better to make a bad move than to run down the clock. If you see the time trouble as being worse than a bad move, then shouldn’t be so afraid of moving faster. Not sure if I said it well, but think this is the key to making that breakthrough.

      The argument is the position was extremely complicated, and it was amazing that Anna could even play difficult top engine consecutively. Just one bad move and her position got even more complex. It is always easy for the spectators to point out mistakes and how to correct them.

    You show a lot of potential Anna. I hope you see that because everyone else does. It does not matter who your parents are, who is watching, who you are playing, as long as you try your best (which you did). You are always learning so you will inevitably move forward if you keep it up.

    I mean I've never seen an even remotely proper handshake in chess. I'm new to watching but it doesn't seem to matter who is playing, it seems like they are competing to see who can touch hands in the most limp manner possible. They clearly all hate shaking hands.

    FIDE will allow chess players to change countries bc it’s a way to for them to make money and puts more money in the game that struggles for money and interest for chess more than a hobby level.The women Ireland coach is an Ukraine refugee and probably not allowed to take Irish citizen spot on team per their countries rules. Magnus would represent Saudi Arabia and spoken openly his “respect “ for King of Saudi Arabia in past interviews would glad accept a “white washing check” like American golfers did if offered.China is very protective about information no matter the subject.

    Hi Anna. Thanks for letting us share the journey. Unlucky today but with the black pieces you got onto a strong position against a higher rated opponent.
    Good Luck with your next project. Onwards and upwards!

  • @toddstark878
    @toddstark878 Місяць тому

    Just like the Paraguay game you had no mid game attack (you need more than just to force Queen trade) against your younger, less experienced opponent who just counter attacked with a two move Queen causing you to fall apart with no plan or time to play positional chess. The 15 minute for obvious move to retreat bishop and the 40 minutes long calculation early in game was just fatal flaws to your game that need analysis of your thought process in these situations bc they keep happening. Computers and theory have eliminated a long calculation in a chess game. Your mother has been able to adjust bc she is human chess computer with all her training and high level experience but you cannot replicate this.( she also gets into time trouble against elite opponents like today). You have to memorize and gain experience application all open theory in today’s chess. On a positive note, I do see improvement in your game while it’s only going to get worse before it gets better as you work on your flaws hopefully with Hammer.

    Isn’t it always the same with Anna, she does very well in the opening, gets to a middle game with chances but then collapses under time pressure and just relying too much on opening prep? If you listen to her interviews, it’s like a broken record. She’s still a fantastic player but her use of time is one of the poorest I’ve seen at her level. She needs some serious help with time management-because her play is strong.
