There is also a good bit of meat left on the collar bones. Probably more than the cheek meat. Very good for the grill. you can also use a large spoon to scrape the carcas and get ~3/4lb of shredded meat for croquets or dip like you would make with salmon.
@@adrianlajas5336 there’s just a really strong fishy taste to it much more than what the white meat holds so I’ve always pulled it off for a more clean tasting meat. I’ve seen others eat it no issues though too.
You never know when that big one hits, but if your in an area where there’s flatheads there’s always a chance. Thank you for watching and this appplies to the smaller flatheads as well except the cheek meat is a lot smaller on 15lb or less fish.
So I have heard of flathead catfish head soup. From what I’ve been told it can make a very rich and flavorful broth but I’ve never personally tried it myself. Can’t hurt to try it sometime.
If it took me that long to clean my fish catfish, I’ll give up and never fish again. I watched a few minutes and I swear I could’ve cleaned three fish had enough see you.
Well thank you my next flathead video will have to be a speed test to see how quickly and efficient I can clean one instead of explaining and showing in detail my favorite techniques I’ve found and why.
@@trevorrandlesoutdoorsiowa either way man, i caught a flathead a filleted it the for the first time & it came out great! best tasting fish ive ever had. thank you sir
@@themagicman925 my favorite is the belly or cheek meat but it’s all amazing. If you ever want to try a good way to cook it that has an awesome crispy breading I’ve got a video for that as well. Quite different but it’s a sour cream binder and my favorite shore lunch fry breading. Comes out like crispy kfc but cajun. I think it’s titled “the best crispy fried fish”

All good suggestions I can try this year on my next flathead thank you!
Wow, that was awesome. Didn't know about the bleed oit via tail.
I do channel cats the same way. Really helps keep the meat clean.
I'm always hearing through the big ones back.i see you brother man
I usually throw back any that are 30+ lb unless I have a big fish fry coming up or if I can get multiple smaller ones instead.
Great in depth video on cleaning a flathead

Thank you! I hope it helps some people out there trying to clean flathead.
They’re not the easiest fish to clean. Nicely done! Next one I get under 15 is toast ha
I still need to get a couple more and I’ll be ready for a big fish fry I plan on doing. Can’t wait to get into them again.
I'm sure you're neighbors sure like you running that bubba knife
No complaints yet. I have a lot of trees and distance in my yard but it’s not too loud in person.
fun to watch thx!
Awesome that’s cool to hear! I hope you enjoy the channel.
Why does everyone hate the red meat so much? Honestly, it tastes good.,.

If you don’t already, You should burry your head and body discards, it’s great for the soil health
I’ve heard of doing that in gardens and it being very helpful.
Why is the red bad ....just fishier taste or 🤷♂️ great video btw.
@@NeilMccane thank you! Also yes it holds a fishy taste in the meat and can be unpleasant.
Although, I'll never catch one that big, I'll know how to clean him if I do. 🐳
