Thanks for the video, I'm currently working in quantum communication and I know many people that think the D-Wave could implement the Shor or Grover algorithm. MOAR videos, these are really interesting and save me reading :D

the mural on the wall in the buiding behind Dominic is quite nice. In Alaska we call it Southwest Coast Indian Art, in the US Northwest Coast Indian Art. It would be lovely to know whose design it is.

So can the D Wave execute Grover's Algorithm?
This would be particularly interesting for ray tracing (CG) since this is basically a needle in a haystack problem.

So, D-Wave is strictly an annealing architecture? Or, can they be considered universal because of the Adiabatic methods utilized for computations?

I'm not sure if the following example is already in quantum computing's repertoire or not, but, if not, I think there should be an effort in this proposed direction.
I assume that, whatever the question, and/ or problem, the complete answer is already "out there". If the Universe is truly infinite, then one can reasonably expect that infinity allows for the existence of complete answers to problems. If not then it isn't infinite because it doesn't contain everything. It's then finite and is limited.
So, I, obviously, am taking the stance that we exist in an infinite universe which has to contain that which we're looking for.
Knowing that the complete answer is out there, our search becomes not a computation but, rather, a matter of resonance or "tuning" - like tuning in a specific radio station.
Therefore, under my assumptions, the quantum machinery will be used to scan the bandwidth of alternate timelines (realities) for the complete answer which will be read out on a display, as opposed to being arrived at by way of computation of any kind.
Accordingly, a critical research arm should be that of attempting to build a receiver that can "see" the answers to problems. This approach will eliminate the consumption of time in the search for answers. No more computations. Our quantum machine is now the ultimate cheat sheet that has all of the answers we're looking for.
This is where at least one branch of quantum devices should be headed. For those who believe that our universe is finite, they'd rightfully conclude that this endeavor is a complete waste of time.
However, on the infinite universe side, this approach should be a no-brainer.
You no longer guess at the answer (compute), you simply look for it.
I believe that this specific quantum device is the most important kind that we could possibly develop - a quantum crystal ball!

So a D-Wave can't be used to efficiently factor integers? Seems to me that the ability to find minima of functions could be combined with quadratic sieve to obtain an efficient algorithm, but the video seems to suggest otherwise.
I'm quiet ignorant on how quantum annealing works, I must be missing some important detail...

Irrefutable Truth Don't listen to these short-sighted zealots, when standard computers were first developed decades ago, your answer would have got the same response from similarly short-sighted fools:
"I think there is a world market for maybe five computers" - Thomas Watson.
So don't worry, when this stuff becomes available at room temperature and consumer prices, you will slot in a quantum processor in much the same way as a gpu, improved opponent AI in games is an obvious application.

I'm too dumb to understand this but interested nonetheless. My question is if this can find parallel universes or time travel, how is it able to do that?! Is it algorithms that would find different universes, how could it go back in time?Through code?! What would it send the code too?! Or would it give scientist the blue print to build a time machine?! Would it be able to interact with a different universe n how?! Or does this not do that at all?!🤔

it should be able to do all those things. but when it does it might not look the way people expect. it is able to be in two states at the same time (true and not true, or clockwise and counterclockwise). imagine if you're solving a problem we have to go through each, or some of the possibilities before we solve it (unless we get lucky or just know the answer). this doesn't have to do that. it solves the problem nearly instantly because it calculates all the possibilities at once. seeing into different dimensions will be much like that. all we have to do is calculate what will or will not happen. it could take classical computers millions of years to calculate all the possibilities for something like all the atoms in a room. but for a quantum computer it might take minutes or seconds. time travel is similar. but remember these are only calculations able to make simulations and predictions, the machine itself will not be able to teleport or teleport something else. though it might be used to make something that could.

    • @anthonymorford8804
      @anthonymorford8804 8 років тому

Anthony Vincent cool question but I that might be too technical for me to answer. from what I understand the universe is always moving toward the best possible scenario. I guess quantum computers just speed that process up in its calculations.
