The mist settled on Charles Bridge. The young Prague militiaman clutched at a wound on his flank. He saw a movement. A Swedish soldier with a bayonet. The young militiaman lay stock still, and suddenly, he twitched. The Swedish man noticed him. The Swedish man walked over. The young militiaman awaited, anticipated, expected that bayonet thrust, but the Swedish soldier put aside the bayonet. "I spare you..." he whispered in broken Czech, then broke down in tears. As the mist settled, the Bohemian and the Swede sat side by side. Both thought about war. The crying Swede looked up. "Who let this happen..." they both said.

Mike Rex Ah you again, let's wreck your argument shall we :) 1: The EU is the most powerful economic block in the world, beating both the US by a small margin and China by a huge margin. 2: Racism is very very minimal in the western world, especially compared to the rest of the world, people of every ethnicity can live there, practice their religion there, work there and so forth, not a lot of nations allow this especially not on large scale. The dislike some Immigrants get is primarily due to their own actionsand that aside a nation has the right to regulate their Immigration which has nothing to do with Racism. If you want Racism try to be a Muslim in India :) 3: China is indeed becoming very powerful, but that has a lot to do due to western consumers, if they were to lose the US and Europe as trading partners their economy would take a massive impact causing it to crash, that is the downside of a production economy. 4: The Indian government might try to do something about it, but so far it is a mess of rape and violence, while in Europe the chances of getting raped are extremely slim so is the amount of violence in the same respect. 5: Obviously you are incapable to keep up with the news, Europe has dug itself out of the recent economic depression besides the fact, Europa's golden age will soon come again as Nationalism is rising, so yeah have fun with that. 6: On your accounts of Racism, in case you mean the Cop violence in the USA, statistics have shown that Black people in the US make up around 12 to 17% of the population yet commit 45% of the violent crimes{Murder, armed robbery, gang violence and so forth.} Whites make up around 70% of the population and commit about an equal amount of violent crimes. Yet statistics also show that for the 1000 black people died by Cop violence 2000 white people were killed by cops and added to that a white person is atleast 30 times more likely to be robbed or killed by a black person in the USA then the other way around, should I interpret that as Racism against whites? In Europe we got the same disproportionate crime numbers when it pertains to primarily Middle eastern and Eastern and Northern African people, added to a dose of Religious extremism from the same group, for that reason right wing parties are growing, is that strange as well? If you truly think Europe and the USA are so bad, here is a tip. Don't go there and keep to your own business. I mean it seems tons of your countrymen disagree with your statements as they come here to seek a better life. xD
For the people I think the thirty years war was a lot worse than WW1 and even WW2. Germany lost about 30% of its population in this war, in some regions more than 2/3. In WW1 it was about 4%.
@@pg1448 Here in South America we had something similar. The Paraguayan war of 1864. (Also known as the War of the Triple Alliance) It was the bloodiest war in the region since the independence wars. It faced the Triple Alliance (Argentina, Brazil and Uruguay) vs Paraguay, long story short, Paraguay had to appeal to use civilians and children as local militia, cause they have already lost almost all of his soldiers. Estimated after war reports said that Paraguay had lost at least 300K Soldiers and an unknown amount of civilians, leaving an estimated of 60% of total male population killed. As a result it leaved a woman/man ratio of 4 to 1. ( or even as high as 20 to 1, in the most devastated areas) And all of that thanks to territorial disputes.
@@pg1448 That was 296 years before WW1. Germany had a lot more people in 1914 than Germany did in 1618. ww1 was actually a lot worse than the 30 years' war in my opinion because the treaty of Versailles basically the end of WW1 set the course for WW2 to begin. and WW2 alone had more German deaths than almost all of the casualties of the 30-year war combined. all three of these wars were terrible but the worse one to participate in, in my opinion is WW1. the trench system was disgusting, cramped and was constantly bombarded by artillery.
@@shrimpbayless3965 Well I think the proportion of deaths relative to population numbers is more indicative of how "bad" it must have been to live through a war rather than absolute numbers. Because of course WW1 and WW2 had a lot more deaths simply because the population size was much bigger. Nevertheless the mortality rate pales in comparison to the thirty years war meaning the average person was way more likely to survive the world wars than the thirty years war. The soldiers in the trenches of WW1 are an exception though, I grant you that, the conditions were awful and the life expectancy of a soldier very short
Isn't a little be hypocritical for this song to play on a game where you can't do anything else than waging wars on your neighbors? You could try to play the trade game but, you know...It's much more easier and efficient just to conquer all the rich trade nodes and be done with.

Three decades of war... Man this song really got in my feels. I've never once been on a battlefield, but I'm 30 years old here; I can't imagine my whole time being alive being in the midst of war with no sign of peace... Everything I've heard from Sabaton hitherto has made me feel mighty, but I can honestly say this one had me bawling like a baby. Excellent job, Sabaton. Respect to Sweden 🇸🇪 from the USA 🇺🇸
Here's my translation of the swedish lyric, that also goes well with the melody. Let me know what you think. I turn around to see my homestead fade away I wish I could have stayed there, just another day Not yet a man, though called to arms to do my part Will I see my home again, I wish with all my heart With kinsmen from my village I went out to war In a world of flames ‘Cause war surely can, devastate a man I give my life, for my motherland But who’s missing me? So see me as them the husband and friend the father and son, who’s never seen again But who mourns over me? Went out to war for Sweden, baptized in blood No gallantry awaits us, dying in the mud In fields where friends has fallen, there’ll be no songs Our fate once more we challenge, and marches on Far away from home (To be baptized and die in war) In a world of flames ‘Cause war surely can, devastate a man I give my life, for my motherland But who’s missing me? So see me as them the husband and friend the father and son, who’s never seen again But who mourns over me? And when my time is finally here Who’ll sing my song? They’re fighting on I hope to die without much fear I fall asleep, and fade away And never wake up ‘Cause war surely can, devastate a man I give my life, for my motherland But who’s missing me? So see me as them the husband and friend the father and son, who’s never seen again But who mourns over me?
Imagine that time. You will be born in a time of war. You grow up in war. And you die in war as a soldier. You will never know peace. I'm from the Czech Republic. We call the time after the war the time of darkness. One third of the population Lands of the Bohemian Crown died.
I plan to be an officer in the US Army, and this is my favorite song. War is a part of the human mind, and cannot be avoided. But for the good of humanity, large scale wars need to end.
True.... But the sad part about war is that millions have died because of people with money and titles... Even worse is that we still allow it to happen. Like if Trump sends you to Iran you have to go to not spend time in jail and get you're life ruined
Si vis pacem, para bellum still remains the primary reason for all countries to have armed forces. You could say soldiers have succeeded in their mission perfectly when a war doesn't happen at all. Or like Sun Tzu said, the apex of the art of war is to defeat your enemy without a single battle.

I love how this song and "En Livstid I Krig" share the same melody and theme, but the lyrics are about a Swedish soldier POV. En Livstid I Krig's lyrics are definitively worth a read.

By kings and queens young men are sent to die in war. Their propaganda speak, those words been heard before. Two ways to view the world brought Syria down in flames. Two ways to rule... Has man gone insane? A few will remain. Who'll find a way To live one more day? Through years of war, It spreads like disease, There's no sign of peace. Religion and greed cause millions to bleed. Seven years of war. From dawn to dawn they're fighting die where they stand. The fog of war lies thick when armies scorch the land. When all of Syria is burning what can be done. They've been to war a decade two more to come. Long way from home. (Döpas och dö i strid) Lifetime at war... Has man gone insane? A few will remain. Who'll find a way To live one more day? It's the same stuff. In essence, the Syrian war is about rebellious shia vs radical sunnis, but on the surface in a more tangible way there's party politics and geopolitics dictating the tides of the war. It's really similar to the 30 year war, superficially Catholics vs Protestants but in actuality about geopolitics and greed.

also look up the swedish version "en livstid i krig" its so much different. the swedish lyrics focus on the view of a soldier and how it feels to go to war, but the english words focus on the general senseless violence of war.
I'm in love with this entire album and this song is 100% pure awesome. If I were at a Sabaton concert I think I would want to get on stage and sing it with them!!
Paradox is fine. A lot of the DLC is just unit art packs and music. Many of us enjoy having games that we play being updated and improved years after release. I'm glad they've planned for 3 more years of DLC, it keeps the game fresh. Want to stick to the game they released? No problem, you can.
I would like to offer my sympathies to the people of Sweden. The modern madness has come to Scandinavia and again it is harming innocents. My condoleances to the families of those killed and best wishes for speedy recovery for those injured.

There isn't a single Sabaton album or song that I don't love. They are all awesome, so powerful, an open book on world history, but Carolus Rex is the best album so far, musically extraordinary, maybe not all the not-swedish listener are so into Swedish history, but this album is a masterpiece. Especially this song, so inspired. The intro is so epic and magnificent, lyric's singed with so many passion and inspiration.
Every Sabaton songs carries a strong emotion, but this one completely tore me apart.
Probably the best Sabaton's official lyric video *ever*, in my opinion anyway.

And again another masterpiece of music by Sabaton. I first stumbled upon Ghost Division on a World of Tanks Video. About a year later I listened to more songs of you....and boy. I am impressed. I love history and I (surprisingly) love Power Metal, at least your stuff.
I guess this can be considered the deep and beautiful ballade-like song every metal formation. has to deliver. It is so good.

Thats exactly how I landed upon Sabaton.

My first sabaton song was also ghost division, and now they are my favorite band, saw them live a few weeks ago, just amazing....
My first Sabaton song was Primo Victoria and I immediately got hooked. Typically power metal isn't my type but I love history a great deal.

Those things cause no harm without politicians, but politicians without those things are no less deadly.
@@ixelhaine That is a fundamental misunderstanding of history. Mike Rex I dont really agree, china has lots of problems with censorship, india with woman discrimination and rights and usa with racism :)
Mike Rex Ah you again, let's wreck your argument shall we :)
1: The EU is the most powerful economic block in the world, beating both the US by a small margin and China by a huge margin.
If you want Racism try to be a Muslim in India :)
3: China is indeed becoming very powerful, but that has a lot to do due to western consumers, if they were to lose the US and Europe as trading partners their economy would take a massive impact causing it to crash, that is the downside of a production economy.
I mean it seems tons of your countrymen disagree with your statements as they come here to seek a better life. xD

The Thirty Years War was incredibly bloody, the only reason it isn't talked about more is because it was overshadowed by the carnage of WWI.
The soldiers in the trenches of WW1 are an exception though, I grant you that, the conditions were awful and the life expectancy of a soldier very short
with more than 40 active conflicts around the globe right now, man has indeed gone insane.
"To live one more day" There are added hints of a higher pitch in this line, and i absolutely love it!

Isn't a little be hypocritical for this song to play on a game where you can't do anything else than waging wars on your neighbors? You could try to play the trade game but, you know...It's much more easier and efficient just to conquer all the rich trade nodes and be done with.
Yeah, EU4 is very narrow designed.

Here's my translation of the swedish lyric, that also goes well with the melody. Let me know what you think.
I turn around to see my homestead fade away
I wish I could have stayed there, just another day
Not yet a man, though called to arms to do my part
Will I see my home again, I wish with all my heart
With kinsmen from my village I went out to war
In a world of flames
‘Cause war surely can, devastate a man
I give my life, for my motherland
But who’s missing me?
So see me as them
the husband and friend
the father and son, who’s never seen again
But who mourns over me?
Went out to war for Sweden, baptized in blood
No gallantry awaits us, dying in the mud
In fields where friends has fallen, there’ll be no songs
Our fate once more we challenge, and marches on
Far away from home
(To be baptized and die in war)
In a world of flames
‘Cause war surely can, devastate a man
I give my life, for my motherland
But who’s missing me?
So see me as them
the husband and friend
the father and son, who’s never seen again
But who mourns over me?
And when my time is finally here
Who’ll sing my song?
They’re fighting on
I hope to die without much fear
I fall asleep, and fade away
And never wake up
‘Cause war surely can, devastate a man
I give my life, for my motherland
But who’s missing me?
So see me as them
the husband and friend
the father and son, who’s never seen again
But who mourns over me?
Thanks

I plan to be an officer in the US Army, and this is my favorite song. War is a part of the human mind, and cannot be avoided. But for the good of humanity, large scale wars need to end.
having this type of felling you will be an exellent officer
Often war is necessary to stop bad men and women from hurting innocents. But the fewer dead good men and women the better.
Yup
Or like Sun Tzu said, the apex of the art of war is to defeat your enemy without a single battle.
the chorus gave me all of the goosebumps
"There's no sign of peace"

"When they face death they're all alike.

It's the same stuff. In essence, the Syrian war is about rebellious shia vs radical sunnis, but on the surface in a more tangible way there's party politics and geopolitics dictating the tides of the war. Paradox is fine. A lot of the DLC is just unit art packs and music. Many of us enjoy having games that we play being updated and improved years after release. I'm glad they've planned for 3 more years of DLC, it keeps the game fresh. Want to stick to the game they released? No problem, you can.
